I get strange looks from people when I play this, but I love it, though judging by the comments below, not for the same reasons as others who come to this video. Everything in it, the instruments, the styles of singing, the clothing, the tempo, it’s all WESTERN. This song is not a mourning for the Soviet Union, it’s an encapsulation of the freedom and broken chains of communist enslavement that swept across Eastern Europe at this time. We Americans won the Cold War, but thanks to Presidents Reagan and Bush and General Secretary Gorbachev, so did Russia and Eastern Europe.
Where is the exact lyrics for this version? There are tons of lyrics of Soviet Anthem on the internet, but I cannot find the exact same version with this one. Many of them provide some old version (1944?) that include the name of Stalin, which is not included in this version. 1977 version is slightly better, but the order of verse seems quite different.
