Neutral used to mean the position of the stick in dead center. It allows for certain characters to perform certain standing moves that require a centered stick position. Moves like Guile's standing Neutral kick in Hyper Fighter, which instead would be a Knee if you were holding a forward or backward direction on the stick. But game jargon can change over time or be different in different regions. We would have referred to this kind of outside engagement as something like position game or range game. And if it's in closer range where you can move in and out to land or bait hits, we'd call that something like footsies or poke game.
You should mention (maybe in title and description?) that this video is SF6 specific. I bet normies don't know what parts are universal for all fighting games and what you can apply only in SF6.
Super clean, nice and succinct, and grats for understanding that "neutral skips" are themselves part of it, they get you in, but you still have to win the offense/defense shuffle with your skippy tool to break out of neutral
One aspect that's pretty unique about Ken is that since his combo routes and conversions are so vast, you can learn something new with him at every step of the ladder you climb. Even at master, you're still learning more optimal combos. It can be hard to remember just what to do in the moment with him.
Correction for one of Ryu’s cons. As a couple people have pointed out, Ryu’s buttons aren’t stubby compared to the others, but they have a little worse risk/reward. Despite knowing this my brain when making the video used stubby as a blanket term for “worse” and I just ran with it. 2:20
Literally the only correct answer. Until she arrives in SF6, DJ's a solid alternative. I'm a trustworthy source on this because I'm a modern E. Honda main. Lol
If you really want a good shoto player or any character and be good with them, you don't need tier lists or matchup charts, just take the one who looks coolest to you
@@SethKaiba25 ryu's cr.mk does reach slightly farther than ken's. this is also true for his 5hp-seriously, go test it. who has better buttons wasn't the question. what makes ken's cr.mk better is that it's 1 frame faster. i don't think it's true that ryu has stubby buttons, just weaker for other reasons
The short answer right now is pick Ken. He's probably the best character in the game even if it's too early for people to recognize. By the way Luke is a shoto.
@@Anonymous-gq7hoLuke is not a shoto because his fighting style is MMA. Shotos are characters that practice shotokan like Ryu, Akuma, Ken, Sakura, Gouken, and Dan.
@ViolentVz yes he is. Shoto does not mean exclusive shotokan practitioners. Anybody that has a similar move set is considered a shoto within the FGC. So Ryo from KOF is also considered a shoto. I suspect you know this and are just being pedantic.
To me the best part of playing one is, when I want to relax I can play any of the other ones at a lower level but still have the basic gameplan. I consider myself a Ryu player (and jp in sf6, I only started with sfv where I played falke and some Ryu) but I love jumping on with Ken or Luke, and now Akuma, for calm play lol I have trouble letting go when I play my mains. I think they're worth learning as a basic, if nothing else the fireball anti air game is so fundamental to sf, on both sides. Edit - subscribed! Edit - I think Ryu actually has the longest crouch medium kick
For Ryu, I like to sacrifice Oki for Denjin Charge when I am low on Drive Gauge. It gives me a chance to replenish my gauge when I do a Donkey Kick because I can choose to either walk back and forth or throw fire balls. And when Ryu has Denjin Charge, the only way other fireball characters can beat him is if they spend two Drive bars to perform an OD fireball. And even then, they have to guess if I will be using OD Denjin Fireball or not. If they guess wrong then I can beat them in the fireball war and even combo it in to Super Art 1, Shinku Hadouken. I can also raw Drive Rush right after the OD Denjin Hadouken hits and perform a combo in to any one of his Super Arts. They don't challenge most of the time though because when I knock them down with Donkey Kick, I already throw a slow fireball at them so they are either forced to block it or parry on wake up. I have the fireball advantage here because I am able to throw my fireball first. Which means that, even if they do challenge me with an OD fireball, I can block or parry it in time. When I am happy with enough how much Drive Gauge I have after recovering it, I walk down my opponents and put pressure on them in the corner. With Ryu's new Denjin buff, he is very scary in the corner. He can loop Denjin over and over again if you don't win the neutral against him. When he does his target combos in to Denjin Charge he is +7. If he does st.HP xx st.HK xx Denjin Charge while you're in juggle state, then he becomes +9. Of course, the downside to this is that you have to be extremely confident in your neutral game. If Ryu gains Denjin Charge, but loses in the neutral game then it will be for nothing.
This story tell us every fg players should act like Ken players, their downplay game is very successful Tournaments results of Ken are even/better than Luke, yet this character got many small buffs, what a joke
@@MoGunnz24 Yeah, I though those Ken players are ps, but now I kind of agree with their reactions, they are doing the right thing, downplay your main is a must in FGC Unlike other T0 character, Luke don't have good way to skip neutral, less possible to blow up your mental stack His oppurtunity come from honest neutral, whiff punish and solid defense, but now his main weapon(2MP, 2HP, 4HK) nerf seriously How could an honest character like Luke compete with other T0 characters full of neutral skip options? Burden of mental stack on two sides are different
@@computervision557 pretty sure most ppl gonna drop him. It’s sad that cry babies rule the world.Like he deserved nerfs but this much nerfs is insane while Ken got buffed
Nah, Luke still has great buttons, his ddt got buff so its damage is also quite large. Getting a little damage nerfed and rebalancing the cr.MP god button doesn't weaken him too much. He still at high tier/A+ or maybe S? I believe.
@@hoanganhle4873 The buffs they give Luke cannot compensate the nerf, DDT still almost useless In most of the cases, players will prefer corner carry rather than damage, even that mean I have to sacrifice 1000 damage Not to mention DDT is expensive to perform, it cost 3 bars, a great round ender since it build lots of meter, but you wouldn't have much chance to use this tool, it is still like a garbage 5HP is a nice buff, but in most of the cases, big combo come from the heavy nerf buttons--2MP, 2HP and 4HK You wouldn't have many chances to start you big combo with 5HP
