Hey my name is Seth Kaiba and I am new to making educational content for the FGC and RU-vid but I wanted to start this journey because I enjoy teaching and want to learn how to make content.
Today I am going over the pros and cons of each shoto in SF6 to help you decide who to main.

Nice video! Very informative! I usually play charge characters but was thinking about trying out a shoto for a little bit. So this helped out a lot 😁👍

If you really want a good shoto player or any character and be good with them, you don't need tier lists or matchup charts, just take the one who looks coolest to you

For Ryu, I like to sacrifice Oki for Denjin Charge when I am low on Drive Gauge. It gives me a chance to replenish my gauge when I do a Donkey Kick because I can choose to either walk back and forth or throw fire balls. And when Ryu has Denjin Charge, the only way other fireball characters can beat him is if they spend two Drive bars to perform an OD fireball. And even then, they have to guess if I will be using OD Denjin Fireball or not. If they guess wrong then I can beat them in the fireball war and even combo it in to Super Art 1, Shinku Hadouken. I can also raw Drive Rush right after the OD Denjin Hadouken hits and perform a combo in to any one of his Super Arts. They don't challenge most of the time though because when I knock them down with Donkey Kick, I already throw a slow fireball at them so they are either forced to block it or parry on wake up. I have the fireball advantage here because I am able to throw my fireball first. Which means that, even if they do challenge me with an OD fireball, I can block or parry it in time. When I am happy with enough how much Drive Gauge I have after recovering it, I walk down my opponents and put pressure on them in the corner. With Ryu's new Denjin buff, he is very scary in the corner. He can loop Denjin over and over again if you don't win the neutral against him. When he does his target combos in to Denjin Charge he is +7. If he does st.HP xx st.HK xx Denjin Charge while you're in juggle state, then he becomes +9. Of course, the downside to this is that you have to be extremely confident in your neutral game. If Ryu gains Denjin Charge, but loses in the neutral game then it will be for nothing.

To me the best part of playing one is, when I want to relax I can play any of the other ones at a lower level but still have the basic gameplan. I consider myself a Ryu player (and jp in sf6, I only started with sfv where I played falke and some Ryu) but I love jumping on with Ken or Luke, and now Akuma, for calm play lol I have trouble letting go when I play my mains. I think they're worth learning as a basic, if nothing else the fireball anti air game is so fundamental to sf, on both sides. Edit - subscribed! Edit - I think Ryu actually has the longest crouch medium kick

The short answer right now is pick Ken. He's probably the best character in the game even if it's too early for people to recognize. By the way Luke is a shoto.

Correction for one of Ryu’s cons. As a couple people have pointed out, Ryu’s buttons aren’t stubby compared to the others, but they have a little worse risk/reward. Despite knowing this my brain when making the video used stubby as a blanket term for “worse” and I just ran with it. 2:20

I'll pick Sakura when she comes out...or Ken with a hat 🤣

As an Akuma main, if you're a longtime Akuma main and have played him in the previous games, then obviously you should main *Ken*

One correction. Ryu's cr.mk has the best range of all shotos (probably due to his slow walk speed and the button's slightly worse framedata)

It is very close, Ryu's buttons are only slightly worse than Kens and the cr.mk is pretty much the same.

@@SethKaiba25 ryu's cr.mk does reach slightly farther than ken's. this is also true for his 5hp-seriously, go test it. who has better buttons wasn't the question. what makes ken's cr.mk better is that it's 1 frame faster. i don't think it's true that ryu has stubby buttons, just weaker for other reasons

@@tricksyfroggy6117 yeah I kind of used stubby as a poor blanket term for worse buttons, his risk/reward and stuff isn’t as good, thanks for the feedback!

Shotos are defined by 2 things loosely. If they have fireball, DP and a tastsumaki move. And if they can do fireball into dp strategy. Luke has both

@ViolentVz yes he is. Shoto does not mean exclusive shotokan practitioners. Anybody that has a similar move set is considered a shoto within the FGC. So Ryo from KOF is also considered a shoto. I suspect you know this and are just being pedantic.
