Sly & The Family Stone harnessed all of the disparate musical and social trends of the late '60s, creating a wild, brilliant fusion of soul, rock, R&B, psychedelia, and funk that broke boundaries down without a second thought. Led by Sly Stone, the Family Stone was comprised of men and women, and blacks and whites, making the band the first fully integrated group in rock's history. That integration shone through the music, as well as the group's message.
Tell me 'bout it! Winter here in Finland🇫🇮is everything between damp hell and nut freezing hell, but also long and dark barely no🌞at all. I thank my God for two forces of nature to help us everyday people to get through the hard times, Sly&Family Stone and home grown weed🙏 Why it's a crime if it gives me a smile?
Like between 'then' and today? Their message: "We've gotta live together" is still relevant as basic 'Rule number one' for us mankind. Sly rule has a heavy message to live by it seems to me... 'We love all' turned me into Sly'ism. Beat that as a message! At the same time l believe the East-Coast was in totally different music vibes because of racism, that ugly race concious bastard. Sly was like a fresh air into toxic room. That same love is still fresh and available in recordings.
This song takes me back to when kids rode their bikes in the neighborhood well after the street lights came on. Everywhere you went, you'd hear this song playing in passing cars, opened windows of homes, and apartments. Soft serve ice cream trucks going down the street. When Jay's potato chips were a nickel and we had penny candy 🍬. We had Nehi pops in the bottle, and we considered it a treat when we got a twin cherry or banana popsicle. 😊
