I was entering my junior year of high school when this song came out in 69. Playing summer league basketball at the beach with guys from my H.S. and the other two area high schools. White and black going at each other together. 1969 .... The Moon Landing, Woodstock, the NY Mets winning the World Series, Helter Skelter and Charles Manson. So much going on. It was a great time.

Every summer - this is what I love! Am 71 going on forever and still loving it hot!

I was just five years old and I already was enjoying the music of Sly and the Family Stone!! Every weekend I would help my father with the home repair projects that he was tackling and he would have the 8-track player (portable) and the amazing collection of 8-track tapes and the vinyl albums of all the best artists of the late 60’s, Woodstock, and especially Motown. “The Temptation’s”,Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, and The Four Tops are just a few of the most influential artists that he had in his collection!! He attended the Woodstock’69 Festival and was only 18 and thumbed it there and back to Chicago , he would tell me about the Festival after mom had left for a break and then I heard the Festival stories about the ladies, and the sets performed by Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, Sly and The Family Stone’s mashup of their best hits was one of the most popular and exciting sets, Santana, Richie Havens, and especially when Jimi Hendrix came out to amaze the crowd with his best songs and his guitar playing. He would put Hendrix on and “Crosstown Traffic”, “Manic Depression”, “Foxey Lady” and “ All Along the Watchtower”. Then went to a “Rose Records” and he purchased the 3 album album of the’69 Woodstock Festival and the first song was Hendrix performing his version of “the Star Spangled Banner 🇺🇸 “, which made him describe the way the fans were mesmerized by his tricks and guitar playing style!! Sly was actually supposed to be at Grant Park with lesser known bands but the. Peace protestors acted up causing CPD to deploy the tear gas and began the stormtroopping as the coppers forces made a line and began the riot. The 60’s what an amazing period to have grew up in especially in Chicago!!!

I would put on my headset to listen to Sly and the family Stone, that way I could crank it up and my family never knew what fun I was having!

I was turning 6 during the summer of 69, I had about 20 bucks saved towards my dirt bike, I was staring through the window of the bike shop and this song was blasting from some guys convertible T-Bird.. I was able to get my bike the year after. Wep''.....
