It hard to know everything about every car that comes into this yard when we see over 2000 cars a year. And to say I'm not a car guy when I have rebuilt more cars than I can count is a little messed up.
There’s a level of sadism with this. Many of the cocks who run these yards just flatly enjoy seeing things destroyed - obliterated - pulled apart. They see no value there at all but what scrap will yield. They even crushed the GLASS in that old Ford. CURVED vintage glass. Don’t care about AN-Y-THING. They want it all destroyed. There’s something wrong with a mind like that.
The original color was code 2A Mist Silver which is shown on the door tag. That is the trim, model and body sequence number. the "82" in the model type denotes it as a 1982 model. We got the VIN, we win: 1 for US made, A for American Motors, M for passenger car, B for 2.5L (151 CID) four cylinder with Rochester "Disaster Jet" Varajet carburetor, sourced from GM's Pontiac Motor Division, W for five speed manual transmission with floor shifter, 4 for Spirit, 3 for two door liftback, 0 for manual seat belts, 5 is a check digit, C for the 1982 model year, K for Kenosha, WI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Kenosha WI plant operated as an assembly plant through December 1988.
Those Holms rigs were the best of the best back in the day. A local group bought a pair of new Ford F350's back in 68 with the Holmes rigs. They got all the towing business in the area for several years, till the partnership broke up and they moved on. We had a huge tornado hit the town that year, and those 2 rigs pretty much did all destroyed vehicles in the town, should have paid for themselves that year! As a kid I rode with them for a day on the clean up, never forget that!
For those who don’t know what a Holmes 500 is, it’s a wrecker that will literally tear the truck in half before it stops pulling. The 500 is one of the strongest light duty booms ever made. They need to be saved for 👍
Yes, 1968 model year with the VIN for the win: 8 for 1968 model year, A for Atlanta, GA assembly, 34 for Fairline 500 four door sedan with bench seat, F for 302 CID V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Atlanta, GA Ford plant operated from 1947 to 2006 and was also known as Hapeville Assembly. We got the tag, we can brag: 54B for Fairlane 500 four door sedan with bench seat, O for Light Green exterior paint, 5AA for Black interior trim, 20F for Thursday June 20, 1968 production, 22 for Charlotte, NC sales district, 1 for 2.75:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking, and W for C-4 automatic transmission. I'm sure at this point, a garageman's lien or court order from the police will allow you to take legal right to own it and do with it as you please. It would depend on NC law.
Now 1975 is smog exempt in California, this truck are worth it out in California, and those are manual homes wrecker booms I have one too,😢I need parts , thanks BigAl California.
That brown wrecker is a 78 because it’s the one with the round headlight earlier 78 and then they went to the square headlight later and 78 and nine was square
1966 model year, with the VIN for the win: 4 for Buick, 44 for Skylark V8, 65 for four door three seat sport wagon, 6 for 1966 model year, Z for Fremont, CA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Fremont, CA plant was among the worst in the GM system and closed in 1982. Today, Tesla uses part of that space for their assembly. Should be code "C" Arctic White exterior paint. No tag, can't brag.
I am a fan of Ford tow trucks because I want my own Ford tow truck Sunday like a 1980s model with an automatic transmission in a but any four tow truck or any other truck with wrecker bodies can run on gas or diesel
