Want to hear from the painter behind the painting? Maria Stoljar films Australian artists in their studios and at the galleries asking them about how they became an artist, their influences, painting techniques, current work and lots more! Since 2016.
When I first found Sandi’s channel, I felt like I finally found someone who was similar to the way I like to create. Not, perfect and polished like so much of what I have seen online. I love to get messy and explore different mediums. I get bored easily and I have a husband who is a very big part of my art life. This interview has inspired me to create content that is authentic to who I am as a person. Somehow I missed that Sandi has health issues. So many creative people I know, do. I also have health issues that affect energy. It is inspiring to know she is not a superwoman. Although, she is still pretty super! This was an amazing interview!
Thanks so much for that lovely message. I too find Sandi inspirational. I think she makes a difference to the way many artists approach their work. Good luck with yours!
One of the first exhibitions i saw at the start of my art school period was a show of his with Colin Lancely at Wollongong Art Gallery about 2002 ? I fell in love with his Port Kembla works.
What a great pleasure to have seen this interview. It is quite special. Also thank you for the extra care you have taken with the sound system. It is the clearest audio delivery I have ever heard on RU-vid.
Wow! What a beautiful video! I absolutely loved it! Thank you Sandi for being so inspiring and such a joy to the world. And thank you Maria for facilitating such a wonderful interview.
I've only recently stumbled across this series of videos and am really enjoying them. I love Juliet's innovative & creative use of assorted materials in her home as well as her art.
I actually can’t wait for the Santa Fe trip video. I go there a few times every year. I’m so excited to see this. It will be so cool to say, oh I’ve been there, now I need to sit there and do it like Sandi. You are such a blessing and inspiration.
I used this video in a series of art lessons for grade 7 students. Students sketched birds and then created their own bird-instruments. What a wonderful inspiration. We had so much fun with this and it really was the jewel in the grade 7 art show. Thank you so much!
I loved learning a little more about @sandihester and her life, I've been a subscriber and have enjoyed her vlogs for years and she inspires me to keep going! I was really moved to hear her speak about possibly having a learning disorder and how she no longer views it has a hinderance but as just being gifted in another way. And as someone who was always viewed as the weirdo awkward kid myself, it took me a long time to 1. learn I had this thing called ADHD and 2. love and accept all my quirks and the different way my brain works. I'm not useless and flakey (ok, sometimes I AM, haha!) but it's just that my brain focuses so much more intensely on the things that others don't notice. And that is a gift :)
Hi Maria, I would like to thank you very much for beautiful inspiring interview. I love her Spirit. As new emerging artist I admire WENDY SHARP. It's open my eyes to the impossible into creativity. Tq
This is epic! I love Talking With Painters and to see Sandi here is such a treat! She is so generous with all her knowledge and process. Super happy with this youtube find :)
I absolutely love Sandi's channel! She has inspired me so much and given me the push to paint again! 🎨 I love that Sandi is authentic and unafraid of showing her true self and her life ❤ so thank you Maria 😊 new subscriber to both channels! Greetings from the Emerald Isle 💚🇨🇮🍀☘
Stumbled on your channel today Maria when I saw your interview with Ann Thompson (not familiar with Ann's work, new to Australian artists). I love discovering artists from around the world. Then I find this one with Idris Murphy - whom Sandi (Hester) mentioned in one of her videos - fell in love with his paintings! So thank you 😊 you have a new subscriber to your channel ❤ I have learned a lot from this particular interview
I found this a wonderful articulation of an artistic process I identify with as an artist - for me he has just described the compulsion I feel to create the work I do. Thankyou .
Sandi I absolutely loved this interview! You are such a inspiration to me. As an artist I just get stuck. I'm a realist but want to play too. Can't seem to let go and just enjoy the process. Your such a joy to watch. 🙂❤️
What I learned from Sandi Hester is to give myself permission to not be perfect because no one does perfect I love being free while I’m creating and that makes painting fun exciting that’s good.🥰
Sandi is my most favorite RU-vidr…she has inspired me to take up art again…I’m having so much fun…thank you for this interview and special thanks to Sandi Hester..she is quite wonderful..such a spirit!!
Sandi Hester (& Grady) is a total gift to the universe. Thanks for taking her gifts so seriously- she’s the real deal and we are fortunate she shares her wonderful, inspiring and uplifting bits of an artist’s life with us.
This was such a great interview w/ Sandi Hester. Sandi works in a way I really strive for and in some ways watching this interview was a great reminder that I need to cut myself some slack and stop comparing myself and my work to someone who has a completely different way of being, a completely different life from me but is still confronting (or has) the same self-doubts, self-criticism, self-shaming, battles with shoulds and should nots that all the rest of have with respect to art making. And her own challenges that she seems to have made peace with and perhaps incorporated them into her "why" instead of using them as excuses for not making anything - which at this moment is what I've fallen into. So, this was a gentle and compassionate kick in the butt for me to get over myself and get back to opening my sketchbook every day.
One of the best interviews. Always inspired and uplifted by your joy of creativity Sandi. And Maria, you are the best. Love your interviews with painters. Thank you both.
That was a super podcast. I’ve been following Sandi for years. I love where she is in her art. AND…she’s so fun to watch! Her passion is off the charts. She’s not only extremely talented, but she’s a nice person!
sooooo kind of you Eileen!!!!! When I first read your comment I thought it said "she's not extremely talented, but she's a nice person" - I got a laugh of that - glad you actually DO think I'm talented though!
