Dedicated to the music of the great jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis (1926-1991). Miles was at the forefront of American music during six decades from bebop in the 1940s, through cool jazz, hard bop, orchestral jazz, modal jazz, avant garde, jazz rock, fusion, to hip hop.

He led some of the greatest bands of all time, working with John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Marcus Miller, Horace Silver, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Kenny Garrett, Cannonball Adderley, Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Parker, Gil Evans, Mtume, Tony Williams, Ron Carter, Philly Joe Jones, Jimmy Cobb, Al Foster, Pete Cosey, Reggie Lucas, Michael Henderson, Daryl Jones, Marilyn Mazur, Robben Ford, and many others.

This is the place to hear vintage Miles concert recordings, unreleased music, and hard to find rarities. MILES LIVES!

Part of the reason that the recording (On The Corner) and consequently the concerts/club dates promoting it were as much a desire on Miles (and Columbia Records?)’s part to actually have people buy it and come see his band in action rather than “get the music for free” (wasn’t a lot he could do about that in Europe, but in America the bootleg sitch was already out of control). That undoubtedly (along with trying to connect with the younger generation) influenced Miles’ directions in music then.

Davis doesn't only solo - he's directing the band, setting the tone and building the sound world, too. Just listen, what he's doing and what the rest of the band do is quite different, other than perhaps Tony Williams, who is also able to affect the environmental conditions as much as Davis.

Miles was beginning to get the sound he was hearing in his head and heart, Mike was in the process of handing his pic to John, Al and Mino were ferocious in their search for New rhythms, and Tom was searching for his voice in this new configuration .The search for a new land and musical language is always intriguing when Miles is in the throws of assuming a new character.

Actually not Philly; it’s Arthur Taylor on drums, even though the radio DJ (who is in a separate location) claims it’s Philly Joe Jones. Joe notoriously missed gigs at this long-standing engagement at cafe Bohemia, and had a reputation for unreliability during this period. AT said once that he made a career out of subbing for Philly Joe Jones, or something to that effect.

Keith Jarrett is playing electric piano and RMI, Rocky Mount Instrument ( North Carolina), an early portable and transistorized electric organ, as opposed to vaccum tube, or pipe organs, which tend to be way larger.

I've read and heard stories of and by Mtume, himself, didn't like Conga players. Even though, he played Congas himself. Had it not been for Don Alias, in my opinion, the band would not have been cohesive, as it was...

Nice clean, and upfront recording. I saw this band, in May of the next year, after this. Dave Liebman, replaced Carlos Garnett on Saxophones. Ms. Nina Simone, The Last Poets, & Reggie Andrew's Ujima Ensemble, opened for Miles.

I'm copying over my comment from the earlier upload of this concert. Thank you for the remaster. Again, this is my FAVORITE of the 2nd quintet bootlegs! ----- OK finally! To me -- this is the BEST outing of the 1967 tour ! I was dissapointed that the Columbia bootleg series of the '67 tour didn't include any from this set. I love Herbie and Tony's work here especially. The interplay between them in the solos for Round Midnight and Footprints is incredible. Totally swinging and lyrical. OK 20:19 - 21:01 --right here. I love this part! Damn ! Tony's drumming is so REGAL and exciting! -------
