Welcome to my channel. Here you can expect to see both freshwater and inshore salt water fishing from the Mobile bay, delta, and surrounding areas. There will be lure reviews and plenty of variety in fishing locales and fish targeted. I fish from kayak and shore. Thanks for giving the channel a look, hopefully you like what you see.

Awesome bite and video! Was this tournament restricted to just dead lake? I am new to the area and was curious if "Dead lake" is actually the creek / river running from river delta marina to Bayou Canot or if its actually a "lake" somewhere. Lol!
@Eightmile_Drifter
@Eightmile_Drifter День назад
Thank you, dead lake is the name the locals give that body of water from the marina to the river. Once you reach the island where it splits to the river left and goes around to the right that’s where canot begins. For this tournament we all launched from the marina but you could paddle, pedal, motor as far as you wanted as long as you returned by the ending time.

You are right a lot of those drainage ponds are loaded with fish. Strangest one I’ve found was a deep hole dug out in a dirt pit. No cover just open water. Had some nice bass but they were pale white. The eggs coming in on birds feet is something I’ve head as well.

The Johnson silver minnow you are showing, is a quality build. They soldered the hook on straight, didn't GLOB Exessive solder on it , AND, the right amount on the front eyelet section. I CULL, Through them in the store, because the " QUALITY CONTROL" , Is lacking at times. Finally .... they basically copied the dardevle spoon , as far as the 35 degree side to side wobble. Lou Eppinger had that figured out Long before these came along, BUT THEY WORK AWSOME!!!
@Eightmile_Drifter
@Eightmile_Drifter 27 дней назад
I’d love to find some of those really old Eppinger spoons, I bet they were all built right. Quality control goes out the window once things get made over seas. Have you ever tried Nemire spoons? They have a rattle chamber in them and wobble pretty wide?
@eugenegress5896
@eugenegress5896 27 дней назад
@Eightmile_Drifter No, I will have to look them up, familiarize myself wirh them. Speaking of Eppinger,, I use to speak With Owner, " Karen Eppinger" quite a bit. There product is still U.S.A. made. They also make a weedless spoon that rocks back and forth like silver minnow. True, alot of Lure Mfg have gone over seas, and down hill. Its a discrace. Storm Hot&Tots, owned by Rapala, are not 100 percent same dimensions, as well as other Lures. Sickening.

Your demonstration removes the benefits of a tube. The hollow body traps air, which allows the tube to glide in the water and sink very slowly. Using the same jig head with the weed guard on it all you do is put the hook into the tip of the tube slide The hook down into the inside of the tube and pop out on the top.of the tube. the hook. Therefore it’s perfectly exposed. The tube remains hollow and you still have the same jig head. The tube is also straight your tube is bent. It loses its floating ability and the advantage of the construction of a tube. Depending on the water, I have hooked tubes up this way without a weed guard and with the weed guard. You can find little bitty, hollow balls about the size of a pee that fit into the tube from the rear ceiling the air in it. Your demonstration looks Like it will not work. There was a time when I only fished tubes and I tried every type of configuration.
@Eightmile_Drifter
@Eightmile_Drifter 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the feedback. Using the Zman tubes and trailers I’m able to get a slow fall and gliding motion. The trapping of air you mentioned does make sense. If using traditional plastics that sink it might be a deal breaker, but the elaztech tubes and trailer plastics float if unweighted and help to slow the rate of sink once weighted. After using this set up for a few years I have determined the major value of it is the easy ability to skip into heavy cover and either drag or swim out depending upon the situation. At first I was disappointed I couldn’t get the tube exactly straight but have noticed it gives a rocking motion when being retrieved that I think is an attractor. I’m planning to make a part 2/ revision video in which I address a few changes from my original set up. It will be very similar, just a few minor tweaks. I hope you will check it out once it releases and give your feedback on it. I appreciate any advice or feed back I receive. Tight lines.

Interesting. I've had some rust / corrosion issues with some of my hooks. I'm guessing that even though I fish "freshwater" there must be some salt content . I'll start spraying and see if that slows down the issue. I kinda figured it to be the high humidity, so I started putting those silica packets inside my plano boxes.
@Eightmile_Drifter
@Eightmile_Drifter 2 месяца назад
There’s a little bit of salt in the water until you get several miles upriver. After last years Chickasabogue tournament I left one of my combos for about 2 months and tried to used it and it had started to get crunchy from the little bit of saltiness. It’s difficult to gauge when you need to clean in brackish water but my rule now is if I see a crab at any point where I’m fishing I rinse haha. Rinsing whatever lures you use and letting them fully dry before long storage in a box greatly reduces rust from what I’ve found.

@Eightmile_Drifter
@Eightmile_Drifter 3 месяца назад
Hey buddy, I’m using the Curado BFS so my tips will be what has helped me for that reel… First make sure the rod you are using has a pretty whippy tip that will help in throwing light baits. If the tip is too stiff you may be having to overcompensate by how hard you are throwing and that could be leading to over runs. The BFS reels are not advertised to hold a lot of line. Usually 30-40yds max. Make sure you are not over spooling. You should be able to see around 1/8” of the spool after it’s filled. I had to measure out the line my first time spooling so I didn’t over fill. If the spool is overfilled it can cause over runs. I also run my mag break wheel pretty high on bfs. The 4/5 and 8/10 range. Hopefully these tips help out. You should be able to throw 1/16oz or heavier without much difficulty. 1/32 is where it gets tricky and you have to throw it carefully.
