Many thanks Jordan, I hope you enjoy your build and maybe put some clips on RU-vid so we can all see what you create, I was very pleased with how this turned out, I copied the track plan from an old 009 layout, sold it a while back but in lots of ways, wish I had kept it, all the best Carl
Hi James and Dylan, Liking and learning from your 009 build, great idea having access panels to the tracks, I found the metal container and the characters for the magic roundabout on our local market store, in a week moment I bought both and thought I'd knock this little layout up, all the best to you both and keep up the great work
@carlroberts2539 Dylan is pleased you're enjoying his 009 build. He's been doing a little bit more to it. Hopefully, there'll be an update once he's got a little more done to it . We really enjoyed seeing the magic roundabout layout 😁👍
This has just come up on my RU-vid, simply brilliant! I am in the UK, and model British in OO, but i can still admire your classic U.S. theme, and modelling skills.
Hello Phil, many thanks for your kind words, I'm in the UK too, I've gone off plan a bit recently modelling just silly stuff really, but this winter, I hope to get back to some British layouts, I have a micro 7mm to build so I'm looking forward to that, wishing you all the best, Carl
I know this is 4 years old, but I just got 2 of my engines converted to RC/ battery and its excellent. I was in the same boat re- not getting joy out of the hobby anymore because of track maintenance. I genuinely think RC/ battery is the future of model railways. (Some) people dont want to muck about with track and the like. They just want to run trains.
Totally agree with you, radio control is a game changer, and if you shop around you can pick up the bits needed at a reasonable cost, it's funny you should mention this as I'm just Building a Gn 15 Emett engine with RC, all the best and happy modelling
I can't help but smile when I see your work. That is an amazing backscene; it almost appears 3 dimensional with the way the view splits, drawing the eye down the streets.
Carl we love it. Particularly like the yacht, my grandad had one like that and he was as nutty as you are with his models, we made a submarine once! Andrea says hello to Annette.
Hello both, I'm so pleased you like the latest layout, and even more pleased that I'm finally building one that Andrea likes ha ha, I can't recall you mentioning your grandad had a layout, I would love to see some pictures of that, and how funny that there's a half built sub marine on my workbench at the moment, struggling a little to get it to move up and down as I would like, I might have to resort to it just being the periscope, we have moved coffee shops again, still very close to yours, we are trying the new one wink wink, I think you know the one I mean, sending love to both
@@carlroberts2539 Actually wasn't a layout, we used to go to Abbey Park to sail the model yacht and the rubber band powered submarine. I hope the sub is "Ready to Eat" soon 😜
@@johnanderson9523 I used to go to Abbey Park with my dad, we didn't have a rubber band powered submarine, but a beautiful blue yacht and a long stick, happy memories indeed, were you the boy that threw stones and tried to overturn my boat ha ha ,and as for your sub joke, Annette has told me to ignore it, see you in Pret if you're passing
Mr. Roberts, there is obviously a part of your brain that functions better than most of us. Please show us this layout when you are done. Thank you for taking the extra time to film and put this on RU-vid. This world needs more smiles right now. Bless you.
100% agree with you, we need to smile, laugh, be kind to each other, thank you so much for liking this slightly unusual layout, I have to say I'm really enjoying building it, thank you for your lovely words, all the best my friend
Absolutely brilliant Carl, we really like how this layout is coming along. The backscene looks great as well 👌. We find it all very inspiring... Cheers James 🙂👍
Hello boys, thank you so much for the continuing support is very much appreciated, I've had a birthday just recently and we've been travelling a lot, so haven't had chance to catch up with your RU-vid wonderful videos, but I certainly will over the weekend, hope the 009 is progressing as you would like, I really must start the one I've been asked to build, another one of those fruit trail layouts, I think it's for the gentleman to take to exhibitions, anyway sending you both my very best wishes, keep up the great work and I look forward to watching,
Hello and thanks for your question, I sold this layout about 12 months ago, and I do build a lot so my memory is not so good, there is a video on here from above showing the plan which I got a bit of stick for which hopefully will help, if I can find the elevations working out, I will take a picture and post it on here, many thanks all the best, Carl
@@griffithmoses2157 thanks very much, I remember when I started this layout, I had an On 30 Porter engine, I laid half of the track basically the bottom half ,and that gave me the high clearance for the top section, as I mentioned I did write it down somewhere as I had that question asked a lot, the bachmann engines handled the steep gradient well in fact the only problem I noticed was they speeded up on the descent, have to admit I didn't consider that, so really going up was easy coming down was more of a problem, if you're doing a layout, bear that in mind, all the best and help you think I can give please just ask
@@carlroberts2539 Thanks you for response Carl. After asking the question about the elevations, I realised that it would depend largely on the height clearance needed for the locos pass under!
@@griffithmoses2157 absolutely spot on, if you notice on one of the videos you will see the engine catch the side wall of the bridge, I used a smaller engine, a Porter, to build the layout, but then purchased a Heisler so had to go back and do a few alterations, I would say the Heisler has a fantastic amount of power and very smooth running, although the porter is a good engine, it is a little light, if I used more than four wagons, I got wheel slip, looking forward to seeing what you come up with, and anything I can help with I'm certainly will, all the best Carl
I drastically hope that´s a temporary setup and not a pink walled stable that you had mentioned in your moving video :) Loving the mini imagineered mechanical "Things" that are emetting from your channel, would also like to see the G scale items you spoke of.
Please do not worry this is most definitely a temporary set up the house we bought was the Home to 2 teenage girls so I'm stuck with this for a few months still yet, I'm working on a portable Emett layout so hopefully that will produce some nice bits. I very much like your G scale garden set up my LGB is all in boxes but as soon as we get the stables converted them boxes are coming open all the best my friend
Hi David, this is On30 scale, the buildings are scratch and not really to scale, but the figures are O scale, hope this helps, the engines and wagons are manufactured by Bachman USA all the best
Hello David, and many thanks, yes, the buildings and figures are HO, I used 009 peco track, then mainly Bachman narrow gauge buildings and people are a mixture
Hello from the UK, Anthony, it's my birthday at the moment so we're visiting friends and family and having a holiday for a few weeks so not much modelling, but I have started the baseboard and Building a clocktower, so folk can make sure the trains are on time, and as you say all with Emett in mind all the best my friend
Hello I'm not familiar with the galaxy express. I'll have to Google it but I like your idea. I have done a space themed layout which was a lot of fun and to be honest still needs finishing. It was Marvin the Martian on my Facebook channel. It went down really well, so thank you for that, wishing you all the best Carl
This is really fun. It’s a neat idea to have the platform itself “run away”. Watching this, I thought it would be fun if (some sort of device) could be inserted so the direction the platform rotates is random: some time it runs away clockwise and sometime counter clockwise. I always look forward to updates on the projects you work on.
Hi and many thanks for liking the update. That's a fab idea. I will get in touch with Heathcote electronics to see if it's possible. Clive should be able to sort something. All the best Carl.
Hey Jeff, good to hear from you and thank you for liking the update. Don't forget any suggestions you have drop us a message on Facebook. All the best my friend.
Carl, as always, I love your whimsical layouts. I've been following your progress on Facebook. Elowyn is so lucky! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.😀
Thanks so much ,I wasn't sure whether it was right to do the posts on Facebook, as most people on there could probably do what I'm doing with their eyes shut ,but I did get a few people private message me ,so I thought I'd give it a try, and for me every day is a learning ,all the best to you, Carl
We're really enjoying seeing this evolve Carl. My grandson and I really enjoy this style of modelling. Speaking of my grandson, have you seen his latest update of his 009 layout? He's been mocking it up with scrunched up newspapers and trees made from skewers and card. To be honest, the mocked up trees wouldn't look out of place on a layout like yours if they were painted up ...cheers James and Dylan 🙂👍
Arh, little Elowyn, Grandad is so pleased you're happy with progress so far, it won't be long until I have some bits ready for you to paint, lots of love XX
Awesome little layout for your granddaughter. I had a thought about the spinning feather feature at the rear of the train - how about a pinwheel, at least that’s what we call it in the US. I think it would fit the playful nature of the theme.
How interesting a pinwheel you say I'm going to have to Google that as I'm not sure what one looks like but many thanks for the suggestion. All the best Carl.
A very thoughtful layout and I love those legs. I struggle for space in my workshop and use plastic folding trestles when working on sections of layout, but it is difficult to manoeuvre between cupboard storage on one side and desk counter on the other. I stick to analogue for my layouts as my electrical/electronic knowledge is quite basic, but it is good to know there are helpful companies out there to assist. Look forward to seeing your ideas for the small scale layout. I have drawn up a plan for a T-gauge set I bought at a exhibition a few years ago.... no shortage of must-do projects... just need more time!
Many thanks and yes the legs are such a help and really sturdy for the price ,I'm afraid I tend to work in a bit of a mess. I've tried to keep tidy but it just doesn't seem to work. Yes I stick to analogue as my knowledge is also quite basic, that's where Clive is a huge help to me and always on the end of the phone. I thoroughly recommend Heathcote. T gauge is what I have just purchased, really looking forward to working in a scale that I haven't done before, as you say just need more time, all the best to you.
Many thanks Clive. It works a treat and thank you for the idiots wiring guide. Sorry I don't make a very good apprentice but we can't be good at everything can we, look forward to our next phone chat about what else we can come up with, All the best lad
I have now watched this clip several times and now I know what I unfortunately don't like. With such imaginative projects, there is easily the danger that one detail is too present and thus "ruins" everything else. In this case - for me - it's the feathering propeller. I am sorry.
Never apologise Michael. I really appreciate people that say lovely things about my layouts ,but also I very much appreciate constructive criticism. the funny thing is the feathers were never meant to be there. I started off with a three blade propeller from a plane swapped that for a ship propeller, now I did like that, but there was just something about it. Maybe it was too chunky then I tried to rowing oars are they just look stupid so I added the feathers? If you can think of anything you think would be better please chip in, or maybe I should've just left it off. I've started the layout board and will do a post on that later. All the best.
@@carlroberts2539 I was leafing through my book ‘The Early Morning Milk Train’ and quite far back (unfortunately there are no page numbers) there is the wagon ‘Lazybeach Special’ with what almost looks like sunshades (but it could also be a beach tent or something). How about a small rotating parasol?
Hi Jose and thanks for liking this layout. I have done a video from above on here showing the track. It's just a basic figure of eight with two sidings I pinched the idea from an 009 layout from over 20 years ago if you can't find it let me know and I'll draw a sketch all the best Carl.
Haha very kind of you to say Brian, I see your a Roberts we must be related somehow down the line, starting a base for this next, got a few ideas, but any help as it progresses would be much welcomed, all the best Carl
