So nice to see somebody from the West Highlands! I was night porter of the Great Western hotel since 2015 to 2019 than I went to the Premier in also in Oban as head housekeeper. I moved home until the covid lockdown to Hungary but Scotland have me forever as my other home. Alba Gu Bráth! Before going foreign countries I was a compound archer and when I came home I switched to historical archery. We use modern laminated bows for competition but Hungarian Turkish and other historical shape. I use thumb draw and Hungarian bows mostly. Both my 50# and 63# Hungarians are actually faster than a modern recurve bow. They are 220 Fps+ fast, Crazy isn't it? And they pack a punch! This year I became champion in 180 meters or 196 yards target shooting. 7th of September next competition is shoot above thge Tisa river and the target distance is 230 meters or 251.5 yards. Other nations don't really practice these long ranges but this is my life. Only Turkish folks are good enough to give us a fair competition in ultra long range target shooting. One thing that woudn't be posible to practice in Scotland. Now I am poor in comparison to my financials in Scotland but I am happy on the way that wouldn't be possible anywhere else. Greetings from Hungar! Side note. Don't worry about the string! We use thin strings like that to increase speed for long range target and flight archery. Modern string materials can take it well. That is a hardcore hunting bow mate! Other folks came to Hungary because bowhunting is legal here. I can recommend it to you as well if you are interested. I wish all the best for you mate!
Thank you for your kind words, I definitely feel privileged to be able to call the Highlands home, I’m not too far from Oban, just the other side of Fort William, it’s a very special place, though with the way things are in the UK just now politically, many are looking at leaving for good, and I’m one of them, so I’ll keep Hungary in mind as an option. The distances you shoot sound amazing, I thought a 60yd shot with a recurve was impressive, but 251.5 yards is a staggering distance, something I’d very much like to see, though it’s fair to say those ranges are well beyond my capabilities, especially now I’ve permanently damaged my shoulder. Hi Scott, all good here, I’m working on a new project, a pretty big one (Rambo parody) which is why I’ve gone quiet, I fancied a go at a movie style video, but it involves lots of waiting for the right weather, lots of filming, multiple characters etc, and a shed load of editing, so it’s likely to be a few weeks before it’s finished. I haven’t heard anything from Dave, his channel is still up and running but all his content has gone, I really hope he’s ok 🙁

Incredible how much hassle for a license you have. Weihrauch is nice especially after they've been used a while. Right out of the box they're not at their best yet. I got a hw98, hw97, hw45 and hw30. They're my favourites. A little worn hw30 might be the most fun to shoot. Glad to see others are enjoying their's as well.

We were lead to believe that pine martens are aggressive, solitary creatures that are rarely seen in daylight hours, yet the ones that visit us are the opposite, they sit at the door and wait for us several times per day, we feel very blessed 😁
They’re my world, and usually go wherever I go, I felt awful not taking them on my last video, but Maddie is very noise sensitive after our old neighbours were being a**holes with fireworks, so would have bolted at the sound of a firebird detonating, she’s one of the reasons we bought our current home, it’s in the middle of nowhere.

You’d think you’d naturally fall to your dominant eye, it’s strange how it works, I’m definitely right dominated, eye and hand, but didn’t have a problem switching over on the rifle, it could come in handy at some point I guess. Thanks for watching, all the best, Steve
I've got one exactly the same as you (I have 8 springers) few tips for this gun, even with a brand new gun clean the barrel before use, don't buy a silencer they're useless. Best pellets for accuracy I've found are the lightest JSB Exacts 7.33 gn, Exacts in 8.44 gn but in 4.51 not the more common 4.52 and H&N Field target trophy, Superdomes agreed are fairly good and cheap. Great gun but my God it's heavy, not really a hunting gun if you want a fantastic light gun at a good price try a Cometa, you'll be surprised. Oh yes and every so often check the tightness of all your screws, agree with you totally about YT, free speech is dying my old son, what a lovely Collie. You might suit a tripod if you're target shooting, or a bag to rest on.
Great tips, thank you 😊 I have a weekly maintenance regime of taking the action out a the stock to clean and wipe over with gun oil, along with a barrel clean and checking everything’s tight, I’ve adopted this approach because of where I shoot, and the frequency, so there will be little chance of loose stock screws affecting accuracy. I’ll have a look at the pellets you’ve recommended, I’m now getting very good groups with the superdomes, they seem to really suit my barrel, but that’s not to say there isn’t better available. I agree completely re the weight of the 77K, it would be a real handful in a hunting setup, but for my purposes it’s absolutely fine, infact it was a joy to use in the video I made after this one, and extremely accurate. I’m currently looking at a HW100KT laminate, I’ve hesitated so far as I’m still trying to justify such a large outlay as a non competitive marksman, especially as it will require the addition of a compressor for filling, but the likelihood is that it will be my next purchase regardless. @@westhighlandtraditionalarcher Yes if it's out in rain wipe it dry then use an oily rag (I use 3 in 1) to wipe it over. Depending on where you keep it beware of condensation in the bag, keep the zip cracked. I gave up pcp's because I found them utterly boring, but the HW 100 is a good choice. However you are into really serious money if you need a compressor as you know. Buying used is an obvious solution, but can either be fraught with problems or the best bargain ever. What I would say is that pcp's are not as robust as springers or gas rams. Seals go, loading mechanisms jam and lots of other things. For most of us not a problem, but where you live a different matter. If you have permission on some land ask if you can build a semi permanent shoot. That way you can just turn up and shoot at known distances. Consider buying a different second hand springer with a sight. Then when you're convinced this hobby is for you invest further.

It was a frustrating challenge, the wind kept blowing the mints over before I had a chance to shoot them 🤣 Weihrauch make amazing rifles, they’re good enough to make an old duffer like me look like I can shoot 🤣🤣 My shoulder is toast unfortunately, but it’s the arthritis that’s causing the real problem, it doesn’t like the cold and damp, however, if summer ever decides to visit the highlands, bringing some warm and dry weather with it, I’ll be all over it like a rash, bow in hand, it’s just been a terrible year so far, we’re still having to put the heating on 😖 God bless you and yours 🙏

It’s an ideal spot to shoot from, I have targets all the way out to 100yds, and it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, rain or shine, I can sit in comfort sending pellets down range 😁 My shoulder is permanently weakened unfortunately, but that in itself isn’t really a problem with the bow, it’s the arthritis that’s debilitating, fortunately it only flares up when it’s cold and damp, unfortunately it’s cold and damp quite a lot in the highlands 🤣🤣🤣 All the best Scott

It’s been enjoyable getting out without lugging the camera gear around, but I do enjoy the video making process. I’m still having difficulty with the bow, my shoulder won’t settle whilst we have so much cold and damp weather around, it’s been a pretty miserable year so far up here, but I live in hope of getting a couple of days of summer, though I’m very happy taking the rifle out instead, I’d forgotten how much I used to enjoy shooting a humble air rifle 😁

I’m fully recovered but still out of sorts with RU-vid, I’ve barely spent any time on here, or watched any videos, I only put this one on as I had nothing better to do at the time, but to be honest I’m not sure if I’ll be making any more proper videos, I’ve really lost heart with it given RU-vids desire to politicise the platform, and stamp on free speech. I'll tell you what else are fun Steve...... pistol crossbows. I bought a Redridge 80# pull one, self cocking and mega powerful!! They have a lever at the back that you just pull down and it cocks the bow. I have two full size crossbows, but they are 150# pull and mega hard to cock!! You get one shot then have to struggle to cock the bloody thing again. This is one reason why I love my longbows. I can shoot quickly, with no fuss. The pistol crossbows are well worth looking at and cost a mere £80. It also comes with a red/green illuminated site. Dave.

I say the same "Good shooting" etc. I heard there was some technical issues. I've had replies not show up when I've replied to a nature channel leaving extremely polite comments. Further to my info about the Prosport, it's virtually recoiless and is quiet because it has a silenced barrel. The barrel is quite thick as it is shrouded, making it look like a "live shot rifle". Please don't get me wrong, that rifle of yours is a stunner and has a stellar reputation. When you get to the level of quality with these rifles, a lot of it comes down to personal choice. We seem to be a nice little group now!! You, myself, Scott and Anthony. Brought together by the love of a bit of stick and string. And to me, you three are great guys, always helpful and supportive!! I’ve been looking at reviews of the prosport and it’s a very impressive rifle, I particularly like the way the cocking lever is seated under the stock, that said, I’m not a huge fan of the overall shape of the stock, but that’s just personal preference, though I may well end up with one at some point. I’m going to order a tbt tuning kit for the HW, if the reviews are accurate it will improve what’s already an extremely good rifle, I absolutely love the out of the box performance of the 77, I just need to find its favourite flavour of pellets to get the best out of it, then I’ll be the weak link lol. We do seem to have turned into a family within a family, the power of social media is something to behold, despite its ability to annoy at times, especially when the algorithm goes into meltdown, I don’t help when I poke it with a stick, as was the case with my last video, but I’ve always had a bit of a rebellious streak 😁

I’m back to full health now, I probably wouldn’t pass a vehicle inspection but hey, I feel good 🤣 There’s a barrel mounted sling swivel available for the rifle, but I can’t find a single website that has one in stock to fit the HW, they’re all showing as out of stock or temporarily unavailable, so I’ll just have to battle it out for now, but I do need the exercise after a month of inactivity 🤣🤣 The rifle will definitely be featuring more on the channel, I’ve rediscovered my passion for air rifles, it’ll be a good switch up when my shoulder makes drawing the bow difficult 😁 All the best my friend, god bless 🙏 P.S now I’ve got to go and catch up on all the videos I’ve missed whilst I’ve been giving RU-vid a wide berth, it could take a while 😳
Hi Steve, I have 3 rifles now, and I did have 4. I have a .177 walnut Prosport, a TX200 .177 and a Walther LGV. I also had a .22 Prosport but passed it on to my mate. I have always been told that the Prosport is the finest springer on the market and after watching many comparison videos, I bought two. This was about 10 years ago though. I quite like Air-Arms pellets. I didn't find JSB's that accurate either. I used to have a HW80k. I still have my HW45 pistol too. I haven’t looked at the prosports but I did consider a TX200, what settled it for me was the stock, I prefer the look of the 77 stock, but that’s just a personal preference, and the rave reviews it gets across the board, it’s a dream to shoot, but I definitely need to find it’s preferred pellets, the JSBs aren’t making for tight groups.
