The "double-hinged" second hinge is massive overengineering and quite superfluous. A single solid arm with two step notches would work equally well and massively reduce manufacturing complexity. In fact, they've introduced a 'weak point' in the design for no practical benefit. I find it amazing that people seek out and pay more for this mystical "double-hinging" when they've no idea what benefits that extra hinge might give them. I guess that's because many people don't really have an in-depth understanding of engineering and tool design. Back in the 1980s, I had corkscrew with a far simpler two-step leverage arm, purchased from a 7-11 cheap-and-cheerful corner shop. This one had just the one hinge at the top. It worked flawlessly at levering out both short and long corks. All that the second hinge might do is to ensure the shoulders of the lower notch doesn't foul on the bottle neck when pulling shorter corks with the shoulders of the upper notch. It's only recently that I've revisited the design of "waiter's friend" corkscrews, and as a design engineer, I am completely baffled as to why anyone would design something of such complexity for so simple a task. It'll be interesting to hear others' comments on this curious design. Thoughts?

I've had varouis sweet wines, and Sauternes is absolutely great. All of them are different though, hard to pick favourites I need to try more, but I think I like it better than tokaj or riesling. It has that mineral notes of riesling but with fuller body, there are hardly any notes of mould like in tokaj.

This was helpful thanks. A friend gave me two cases of different red wines of different years. All stored upright. The corks on some were dry when I opened them. Some were brownish. Taste on some were ok but the brown turned me off.I was afraid to drink any of them. I still have one box left to check.

Nice video! Chateauneuf du Pape translates to NEW Castle of the Pope… or “The Pope’s New Castle” as it refers to when Pope Clement V relocated the Papacy from Rome to Avignon in The Rhone Valley for about 70 years. The new castle is still there in Avignon, is massive and beautiful, and I’ve been lucky enough to have been there to partake in the wines and the sites!

I just finished a small bottle of sweet red and it tasted great. Today i bought a bigger bottle of the the same wine and firstly i found it leaking on the trunk of my car i didnt think much of it i assumed its just coz it was banging around back there. I open it and it fizzed like im apening a fizzy drink....very strangs but i thought ok maybe it got shaken up too much but the taste also is off its a bit sour its not bitter like the dry type and it is for sure not sweet. Should i return it or give it time 😒

I bought a cheap 375 ml bottle of wine with a screw cap. I drink some of the wine I've opened, pour some into the 375 ml bottle, and because of the screw cap I'm able to fill the bottle to the top, so there's almost no air contact.

You only covered all the different kinds of stoppers you use. I was more interested in knowing if you should store in the refrigerator, on the counter, leave it unstopped to continue breathing? Any advice on that?
@slycoke
@slycoke 3 года назад
Question for anyone. I have heard Chianti is better if you let it breathe for about an hour. So if you open a bottle of wine and pour a glass, shouldn’t you just leave the stopper out so that the wine can continue to breathe and just get better tasting throughout your meal and as you pour your second and third glass?
