Sauturnes is a sub-region of Bordeaux and is a white wine with some very interesting differences. I have had this video ready to go for some time, but misplaced it, so I am posting it now.
I've had varouis sweet wines, and Sauternes is absolutely great. All of them are different though, hard to pick favourites I need to try more, but I think I like it better than tokaj or riesling. It has that mineral notes of riesling but with fuller body, there are hardly any notes of mould like in tokaj.
we had our first sauternes wine the other day and absolutely loved it. if you're sharing it with one other person, then a half-bottle is the perfect size as i think drinking a whole 750ml bottle would be too much of a good thing if that makes sense. but definitely try it if you get the chance.
In France you can find Southern it in almost all supermarkets for as low as 5.5euro but that's too sweet and thick for my taste. I prefer Montbazillac, which much less sweat but still full of flavors and also made thanks to the noble rot!
