this is probably patched cause I was watching like five times and doing it exactly like you did. EDIT: ah damn this only works in creative oh well I guess I will stick to the good old way of pipes and a piston
Hwy I am messing with this right now and it’s not fixed. I had a similar problem. If you hook an engine to both bearing it should work. If it doesn’t try swapping the direction of the bearings. Mine is always swap the direction of the front bearing facing your load
Isn't this gonna deteriorate in survival? In my perspective, survival is a mix of simple 8 and advanced physics and this 90 u-joint adds more joints, it's definitely going to cause quite some trouble, lol
well yes, but i really hated that the pipes would phase through each other so i came up with the is amalgamation lol. it’s not the best, but it could be better
I like it's simplicity, though I want to do some experiments and test the max speed and torque it can handle, before trying to make my own and beat it. I'll update you if I find anything stronger, I look forward to experimenting. usually 90 degree pipe joints are pretty weak, since they just clip right through. but with that it's going to take enough force to make the bearings stretch.
alright, so I spent like the whole time experimenting with testing gears and u-joints, I found out that this particular set up will fail at 2500 torque, and by that I mean the mechanism collapses in on itself. I built a slightly larger one(by a block each axis) so that I could get the missing bearing in place for the u-joint, and then it wouldn't rotate so I needed an extra four bearings on the center part that rotates, and that allowed it to pull all the way to 6000, where it once again failed. I then just tried using 8 tooth gears, and they produced the most amount of load, probably close to ten times as much. that surprised me, I guess the bearings are the limitation here. I also tried adding four bearings to the center part of your one and it made it worse, so I wonder if there's a way to get mine to rotate without those center bearings, because I do think they were sapping away some torque. I'm gonna go to bed now.
do I remember you just joining scrap mechanic technical community? If so, I'll subscribe because I want to help spread real knowledge about mechanical stuff!
Hello Dynamation, i’d like to see you build the smallest piston engine you can. My best is 3x3x1 2 piston engine. I used blueprint editing and it works on timers but it can even switch directions
Ooh, tank steering! Thanks. Btw, the blueprint edits, suspicious piston sorcery that can lag out your game, creative insanity involving screws and pipes and off-and-on the lift doing 3D rotations to complete these dastardly machinations, and all that are great. Will never try, but keep 'em coming! Swing bar and the cantilever suspension videos were pure genius.
