Every place had a Wine Alley then. There used to be grim collection of tenement blocks in Wallsend called Gordon St that outsiders didn't lile to venture into and they resembled something out of The Bronx and were rotten by the time they were pulled down in 1978.

I live in Paisley but my mate Wattie worked in 'the yards' as a welder for most of his working life until he retired fairly recently. I'd never been to Govan until about a year ago but I've been back plenty of times since. If like me you are a 'tourist' in Govan, take a trip to Watson's the butcher in Shaw Street for a hot pie (hold the poke under yer chin to catch the grease) and take a a walk to the Govan Old Church (truly awesome), You MUST see the Govan stones inside, and check out the Pearce Institute, Brechin's bar, a walk in Elder Park and tale in the nice architecture. If you like a wee walk, you can walk along old Govan Road past the old graving docks with their colourful graffitti .... Old Govan Road, it's a lang walk. The old red sandstone town hall is now a fancy Film studio. Govan V Linthouse..... Naw! Please don't start World War Three. Me, I love a wee jaunt to God's country, Govan and my pal Yvonne bought ne two Watson's pie's yesterday, so I'm 'pure sorted'..

9mins in, Govan X, Govan Road, . The Aitken Memorial Fountain is a well known and much loved landmark of Govan Cross. It was created in 1884 and is the only surviving example of the decorative, cast iron drinking fountains produced by Cruikshanks & Co.’s foundry at the Denny Works, Stirlingshire. Dedicated to the memory of Doctor John Aitken - a local doctor rumoured to have died from overwork due to his dedication to serving the medical needs of the area’s poor - it has stood for more than 120 years at the head of Water Row.

What a itch she is to her father They're in the cemetery standing in front of her mom's grave with her father there. He says I like to I'd like to be at the wedding Then he says you know I love you right The bitch just walks away. No good bitch

They were all sitting there having dinner, talking about after her mom died, And the father says she was very young. She was too young to remember. She said I remember plenty, Then the father say's : Do yea ? The father stands up and he saidad i'm gonna go. And the brother goes down to the front door, His son : Then the sun says to the father. : YOUR A RELIC ! DONT BOTHER TO COME TO THE WEDDINDC -- Someone tell me something, How do you say that to your own father ? No I know I retyped part of the monolog. The script, Connie gave some of it away. You look at this, think about people that lost their father when they were 7 years old and wish they could have their dad their whole life like they did. ? 1 In my eyes -- THEN THOSE GROWN UP KIDS ARE SON OF A BITCHES To say that to your own dad, Don't bother coming to the wedding You're a relic

The calibre of people from Govan and the like are a threat to the establishment, their neighbourhoods need to be continuously dismantled and the people dispersed. Real people. Love from Liverpool.

Most of this is an area called Plantation, which is now know. As Kinning Park.... All were subsumed I to Govan. The buildings shown are the empty flats left behind as people we rehoused in the housing schemes of Drumchapel, Pollock, Penilee, Darnley, Cumbernauld etc. We were moved out in 1965 to Johnstone where a lot of the Glasgow overspill were accommodated. Many people found homes in the tower blocks of Ibrox, the Moss Heights, Penilee etc. We still had relatives who lived in the tenements awaiting rehousing and we watched the demise of the area. I can still smell that Aroma that accompanied the knocking down of old buildings. I was 8 when we moved. What has never ceased to amaze me it that Harpers memorial Church, what was Plantation Parish Church (scene of many family weddings, christenings, funerals, and Sunday worship along with various activities) and Lorne Street School (albeit some of it missing) are still in the area. The flat we left was in good condition, others were moved in on a temporary basis. Our building was pest free, the tenants, were good re cleaning and maintaining. It was not council owned! And the mark of 'wealth'.... The wally close. Seemingly our factor was reasonable re repairs..... We had an inside loo (bliss), wash house out the back and it worked! The steamie was also visited as was the bath house within it. Lorne St Scholl had a swimming bath open to the public after school hours. Everyday living was made easier by moving but because of the lack of forethought many new places sprang up without shops. People were used to buying fresh every day, fridges were needed, washing machines, extra beds as kids moved into their own rooms etc.... Altho we see the film as slums we essentially are looking at housing being emptied and people moving on.. Some of those wide open spaces were used for council rented cabins made of wood. They were temporary, cold and damp but provided shelter until Glasgow caught up with it's housing deficit (it never has....)

Brought back fond memories.I grew up on Sharp Street which ran between Wanlock Street and Dunvegan Street (used to be Holm Street). Spent many years in the Boy’s Brigade at the Pearce Institute and when the clip of the Boy’s Brigade is shown, guess what, when the individual boys are shown I am the first person you see,big surprise. Loved my time in Govan, great people. I now live in Newmarket,Ontario,Canada.

Great place, grew up in G3 and now live in g52 , served my appreniship in govan too, so always been in and around Sunny Govan. Great graft and industry and also great depression . Its always changing and look forward to see what become of the graving docks , half of govan shopping centre carpark , and water row. Going to work as an apprentice FLT engineer around 1996 visiting Kvaerner amongst many other neuks and crannies around the area introduced me into the working life and earlier memories of the garden festival are still vivid and fond

I nearly fell over when I saw this photograph of the girl in the middle of this picture. She is the spitting image of my wife when we were courting. Problem is I left Govan when I was 16 in 1962 to live in the Manchester area almost 60years ago. I showed my wife the photo last night and she immediately said she looked like her. I keep looking at it and thinking I wonder who she is. Uncanny.

I do not think it could have got any tougher ,John, as you say. My mother came from that are. Blackburn street. Plantation street, And they had nothing, I was bombed during the war and they ended up in big flats at pollockshaws with no curtains, beds, or Chairs. They had orange boxes to sit on. How could it get any tougher. She was only 10.
