another quickone for ya, when threading ya line, pull the reel section off and hold it under ya arm while you feed the line up to the tip, then place the top section back on. Stops puting the reel in the dirt aswell.
@@davidraguse2106 yes mate… good question. 2 ways I do it… 1st is changing hardware to bigger split rings and/or hooks. Need to be careful you don’t change action of lure too much. 2nd is adding lead weights. I did a 2min tip a few weeks back on how to do it - How to Suspend Lures Using Lead Strips (2 MIN TIPS) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F59EJMxBnY8.html Catch ya! 🎣
@@blastandcastnt4461 gr8 question mate. I’m a part of a fish tagging and monitoring program that tags important recreational species. The data collected helps understand each species and our fishery a little better. For example… when a fish is recaptured we can find out its growth rate and movement patterns. Even without a recapture we can better understand populations. 🎣
@@InshorePursuitFL thanks mate… Samaki skitch X 7 foot ML (medium light) action. I’ve modified it by cutting off the butt… but it’s not for everyone as it changes the balance. The mod give me more flexibility in the wrist. Reel is shimano stradic ci4 (now called Vanford) 3000 with 20lb Schneider braid and 40lb Schneider fluro leader. The reel is a little expensive but the rod is best value for money on the market. Retail around $110 but you can find them for $80. No crying if the tip breaks 👍🎣😎
That was a nice barra. That lure was recommended to me a while back and I never ended up getting one. Its on my list next time I'm at the tackle shop. Cheers.
@@topoint thanks mate. I’m a softies guy but more than that I like a challenge and to always be thinking outside the box so been honing my hardbody skills and techniques. When I started using the little Lucifer range things just clicked… permanent home in my tackle box now. 🎣😎
@@interestingsociety thanks for the support mate... greatly appreciated. The rod is an older generation gloomis cross current teamed up with a new max catch avid reel… both 8wt with full floating line. 😎🪰🎣
@@sportfishingjunkie Thanks mate, i was having a look at the LAMSON LIQUID S SERIES REEL, unfortunately it only comes in 8 or 7wt, i`m looking at flying for flathead and breakwalls etc in saltwater, do you think i should go with a 7wt or 9wt rod and reel?
@@interestingsociety If flathead and similar sized fish are your primary target I’d go 7wt as it’ll be lighter and easier to cast for longer periods of time. If you think you will be targeting bigger saltwater fish more often then a 9wt might be better but it will take a greater toll on you if you are casting all day. Thinking logically… I’ve landed some really good fish on 8wt including 87cm golden trev, 86cm mackerel and 82cm Barra and if I had a 7wt I still would have handled them with a little more patience. The only issue for you will be the structure around the break wall mate. The 9wt may have a little extra stopping power. Sorry mate not a definitive answer but I hope it’s helped a little.
Thanks mate and gr8 question. I prefer an 8wt for its versatility but you could get away with a 6wt if you had to. Might find stopping some of the bigger fish a challenge… but that’s all part of the experience 😁… Happy 🪰🎣
nice short entertaining clip thanks for that was entertaining, gave you a subscribe as well. I come across the Chanel Bustups he fishers up there as well watched his last video in hinchinbrook catching some nice mangrove jacks and god he’s got the casting skills down pack him self. Think I might have to venture up one week end and wet a line my self 👍🏼
Tapered leaders and tippets are total bullshit for brown trout dick flex who can't tie flies to save their lives. 20-50lb straight through can loop knot small ball sinkers or split shots instead of of running bullshit full sink shooting heads. Works mint on murray cod, jacks and barra! 👊
Gday mate, I’m new to salt water fishing, I’ve always wanted to catch a Barra…. I’m heading up to cairns now, any tips? Bait or lure? New sub here and tight lines brother 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
I’m a lure guy mate so can pretty much only comment on that… although a lot is transferable to bait. Lot a different ways to target Barra but happy to put up a few basics to point ya in right direction. Being winter mornings will be tough so target the afternoon low tides in shallows to find warmer pockets. Look for bait and patches of dirty water where the Barra can hide. Lot assume Barra are always on snags but 80% of mine are in open water where warm pockets, food and dirty water meet. As for lures… everything eats a prawn and I use a lot of prawn style lures. Don’t fish Cairns much so can’t help location wise but plenty of areas to work lures up there. Hope this helps… feel free to reach out if you have any other Q’s… and good luck 🍀🎣
It’s 95% the same as the Average Joe Fly Tying version. I tie my weed guard a little different (if I use one) and a few other slight changes but he ties a great 🪰 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bgKoAxOWzdg.htmlsi=lFszqVRc3GEBp5wb
Apology for my previous reply mate… I had a question about my skip casting outfit from another video at same time and put wrong comments against the wrong posts! 😵💫😂 I use an 8wt with full floating line. Although… the rod I use is marketed as a ‘predator’ model and I believe it’s actually closer to a 9 weight so either an 8 or 9 would be fine. 🪰🎣
Im in the way of checking all of your awsome videos right now but are you using top water softies cuz u think you get more on top or more cuz for skipping deep in snag??
Great Q mate… mainly because of the flexibility they offer. I do have a few hardbody surface lures that I use from time to time but the softies usually get tied on because of the advantages of what extra they offer… like skipping. Plus I’m just big on soft plastics 😁… .🎣
@@sportfishingjunkie thanks for the reply. Ive been fishing in Carins for 20years now. back than ppl never used to use soft plastics but now more and more ppl finding advantage of it including me! Ive been to Hinchin couple of times before but never could fish like you do... Im so jealous.... Got to go back again!
@@devithirteen I thank my lucky stars every time I fish Hinchy… beautiful place to call my back yard. Funny… I getting back into the hards because I do so much soft plastic fishing. What’s old becomes new again. Might see ya in Hinchy one day mate 🎣
