As ambush predators, flathead have always been one of my favourite fish to target... and they readily take a well-presented fly.
In this video we take a look at a flyfishing for Flathead using a crab pattern that I'm in the process of tweaking and talk through how I like to present that fly. There's also a deadly surprise catch so be sure to until the end.
It's only an addiction if you want to give it up... Catch Ya!

Love using soft plastics for them... fly is just something different... challenging.🎣

Love the vid mate. What gear do you use? Rod and line weights?

Thanks mate appreciate the support. I was fortunate enough to pick up an 8wt Gloomis cross current rod at mates rates but more recently have been buying some Max Catch gear. The reel is a Max Catch Avid Pro, which I really like, better that the TFO Black III I bought initially. The Max Catch Predator range of rods are also good, been using one for 12 months and really happy. The fly line is nothing special... just a general saltwater weight forward 8wt. If you're looking at well priced gear check out Max Catch. 🪰🎣

Love the video mate! Really enjoyed this flatty on fly vid! Just curious as to what Rod/reel weight setup you're using? Cheers.

@@aPrioritiess thanks for the support mate... greatly appreciated. The rod is an older generation gloomis cross current teamed up with a new max catch avid reel… both 8wt with full floating line. 😎🪰🎣

You and me both 😂 I'm a bit of a hack when it comes to fly tying... functionality over cosmetics for me. Thanks for the comment and support mate greatly appreciated and something I'll keep in mind for sure. Rigging plastics and fly tying tips is something I've only "thought about" to date so maybe time to dive into in the near future. Thanks again... Catch Ya! 🎣

What are you tagging them for? And what’s the size limit for those
@sportfishingjunkie
@sportfishingjunkie 10 месяцев назад
Tagging helps us better understand the fish (how many, how fast do they grow, where do they move to etc). Legal size (minimum) for dusky flathead in Queensland is 40cm.🎣
