Almost all the annual family meetings of christians started after 1980, after the inflow of gulf money. The middle-class and low income class people made good money from nurses or such other medical professionals who found jobs in the middle east. Some could go to USA in the same fields. Now almost from every christian family, youths, especially, nurses of both genders are working in gulf countries, USA, UK, Ireland, canada, New Zealand, Australia etc. After attaining good money from foreign remittances, they began to seek social status in the society. Hence annual family meetings started. They started to make claim that their forefathers were aryans/brahmins . Recently, some of them began to claim ancestry from st. Thomas/jews. This is the development in the last forty five years. After a few more years, they may claim their ancestry from joseph, the earthly father of jesus christ. Remember that almost all of them had no " uduthunicku maruthuni" before 1980. This history is known to everyone who is aged 55 years or more.

@@perspective6465 It is true that Synod of Diamper did abolish a lot of practices among Nasranis. Notably our mamodisa used to be on 40 th day for male and 80 th for female. Recommendations were made to baptise babies within a week ( the reasoning for that is to ensure babies are cleansed from original sin as soon as possible, especially relevant if the baby dies before mamodisa). Our custom was based on our Jewish roots. But I don’t think we have followed the change fully. I remember in our families typically mamodisa used to be on the 40 th day. Until then women after birth would be in their parental home ( in seclusion- it used to be called pettu kidakkuka- Peru is the Syriac word for womb / birth etc. ). It is true we were accused of being judaisers. Not heard of circumcision being practiced though. None of the Christian communities practiced it after conversion. Including other Jewish Christians. It was abolished in the council of Jerusalem. St Paul has written about it. Circumcision is only a prefigurement to the baptism. TThere were lots of errors in our community. Synod of Diamper aimed to cleanse us of it. Another notable change is ensuring the proper form and material for the consecration of the Holy Eucharist. Some ( very few) kathanars used rice bread and toddy etc for consecration!!! It is clear those were invalid. But as our Tradition, our bread is the unleavened bread to which the Holy Malka ( from the original bread our Lord consecrated) is added. You can see how important it was to make sure there is a unified set of rules etc. There were some injustices- agreed . But we had some serious problems in our community including concubinage, taking part in Hindu festivals etc. These are serious sins. It is the sins against the First commandment which got us dispersed out of Judah in the first place. We still made the same mistakes. This is the list of changes implemented in the Synod . Roman church has never said this. I am a Nasrani now part of a traditional Latin mass community abroad. There is no doubts in the Latin community abroad even about St Thomas’s mission and martyrdom in India. This denial of our beloved apostles’ martyrdom for us is a phenomenon I have only seen in some people in India. It is truly sad to see this. It is so disrespectful to our apostle who came all the way to our land full of strangers looking for the lost children of Israel and toiling here for 20 years and then giving up his life for us. Church of Edessa was in contact with us since the early times. Pope Benedict wrote about St Thomas’s mission in India. St Thomas gave us the Gospel of St Matthew.
