Wow, that took a long time considering it's been blooming so long. I planted one from a 1 gal. pot last year here in Costa Rica and got fruit in under a year. It's one of my new favorite fruits because it makes great smoothies with cold milk and sugar or just use water and it's like a non-citrus lemonade. You can grow them from seed pretty easy too, they just take several months to germinate. I planted some from my first fruits and thought they had died only to notice they had germinated like 6 months later.
I reckon I’ve bought from the same ebay seller from NQ. I’ve had a hard time trying to quickly, but also delicately, moving from that scoria mix into a new pot. Thanks for the tips
Hey Brett, hope you are doing well. Yeah these garcinias and plinias should be 8 to 10 years and some of the eugenias might fruit sooner. It doesn't really matter as I have so many other trees in the ground that every year a new tree flowers. For example I have flowers on male and female imbe trees this year. I was 50 this year so by the time I am 60 should have 100s of fruiting trees, my semi retirement will be selling rare fruit, that's the dream.
Hi Doug, Great collection. Wow. Button mangosteen aka Cherapu. Always wanted a few of them. Thanks for stopping by last night and watching my live video. Hope to do it again soon. Take good care my friend. Stay as cool as you can. The heat can be brutal.
Cheers Jason, yeah Cherapu are one tropical plant that might be able to spend its life in a pot, so I can put it in a greenhouse each winter. Good on you making time to go out exercising. I usually walk my dog in the afternoons, and as I do construction am on my feet and climbing ladders all day. I will try to catch your livestreams if the time zones allow.
Wow what an amazing collection. Definitely coming to your place when I'm up in Brisbane again :) Will you be looking for land near Brisbane or a more tropical climate? I love John Picone's setup. He has a big covered area to grow all sorts of things including ultra tropicals. Something like that would be a dream!!!
I'll do a video about the land once I'm out there and sort out where the orchards going. It's on my brother in laws property he bought to retire on, it's 100 acres, 2 hours from me and he's giving me 5 to 10 acres to plant trees on. And yes I might bird net the whole orchard
It's not actually mine,I'm leasing 5 to 10 acres off a family member who is retiring on 100 acre property 2 hours from me. But yes I will definitely keep everyone updated once I start setting up the orchard there.
Awesome Doug, when you lay them all out in a row you can see the results of the effort put in to source all of those! It's like South America in your garden. Did you say Sp gin and tonic?
Great work mate would love to see some more tasting videos on other mangoes you have? There is so little info coming out of aus on tasting everything is US based
Cheers mate, I since ate a really ripe coco cream and it was amazing, I have flowers on my orange sherbert, lemon meringue and lemon zest so hopefully do a taste test of these this summer. My cotton candy, fruit punch, sweet tart, taiwan gold and kasturi won't fruit till the following year. This spring I am going to a fellow stfc members farm that has 330 varieties of mangos, will do a video of that.
Thanks, Evelyn. I don't really know what I am doing, but I like to have a go and am happy to share my success or failure. I hope to inspire people to plant more edible plants/fruit.
When they’re more yellow with a little green they will have a strong coconut flavor, it’s closer to pineapple when more green than yellow and when its all light green it’s more like an atalfo.
You'd be glad that just now I’ve liked your RU-vid Channel. Cos, your content was really awesome. But unfortunately, there are not much views and subscribers. I noticed that your video SEO score is too weak according to your needs. Because of that, your video is not reaching your target audience. You will be glad to hear that I can help you increase your SEO score so that it is top on the first page of RU-vid which will increase your subscribers and views organically. So, if you want to do this, I await your response.
Nice selection you picked up. The Nordestina do not handle overwatering very well. I learned the hard way when I had a dripper malfunction that killed all 3 that I grew from seeds. Was looking to purchase a seedling and realized how big of a mistake I made. The Nordestina seedlings are going for a pretty penny online right now.
Beautiful specimens! I watched a video a few years ago from Florida where they were planting them on the northern side of buildings, so full shade and still getting fruit. I planted mine under my patio after seeing that with minimal light and it’s flowering for the second year, the de Cruz variety is a few years behind.
@@dougs_urbanfarm will do, it’s only been in the ground a little over a year so imagine a few years away from flowering. From what I’ve read they are meant to have a better flesh to seed ratio and taste better.
Hope you get some fruit! Don't be disheartened if the flowers don't turn into fruit for the first one or two years, mine needed some practise b4 they set fruit.
