Lol Doug sadly I've yet to taste a sweet dragon fruit here in the uk, always pretty watery and bland, I guess they always have to be picked too early for shipping overseas 🤪
That's a shame Brett, some of the varieties are super sweet and flavourful, if you shut your eyes and ate them wouldn't guess it was a dragon fruit. Have a bunch of new varieties flowering atm so will try them soon.
Yeah Griffin I could imagine that, mine just wasn't that sweet but now that you mention it. I might leave the next one a little longer, it takes a while to figure all these new varieties out.
My daughter surprised us all when she said she liked the red dragon fruit..it was all the excuse I needed to get a couple of red ones from marketplace. Need to figure out how to best trellis them, pot vs ground. What do you find works best? Will have a dig through your vids
That's an impressive collection. Do you have a favourite? With so many, do they all flower and fruit at the same time or do you get a consistent supply throughout the year?
@qpl88 a lot of them are just starting out so I'm not sure what will be my favourite. Atm I really like darkstar, pink panther and desertking hybrid. I usually get my first fruit at the start of summer and pick fruit all the way to mid winter. I have a lot of self sterile varieties so need to collect pollen to cross pollinate, a bit of a pain but these varieties are very sweet and tasty.
That's a decent span to get your dragonfruit fill! I don't know which one I have yet but was assured it was self pollinating. I've seen some videos about the manual pollination which seemed like effort but as long as it works, worth it. I'm on the sunny coast but would make the trek for such an offer! Plenty of things brissie has that we've put off going down for
