If you're going with the classic OME lift, the 3" J-spring lift is worthwhile. The stock and 2" use the same shocks. The 3" uses a longer shock giving better articulation (droop travel in particular).
It's fun seeing someone like yourself discovering what Land Cruisers are all about and embracing the experience. As you do more, I highly recommend a portable compressor and tire puncture kit (plus whatever backroad maps are best in your area). Even on accessible routes like this, punctures can happen.
The Land Cruisers are more expensive because they are a bulletproof without high Maintence costs. The LX570 is bullet proof with high Maintence Cost. I cannot stand anything over than coil springs. There will never be a time when you don't have to replace or fix something on it.
Completely agree! I have the same philosophy with turbos, they are going to fail before the engine does. I think these 100 & 200 series will appreciate in value, if you take care of them. The 300 series is turbo, and inherently will never be as reliable as these n/a vehicles.
@@christophermartin972 The Toyota Land Cruiser from about 2000ish onwards is the number one most Realible SUV in the entire world. The studies look at how many SUV's with over 200k miles are still on the road. The Land Cruiser has the most. We see them quite often with 400k-500k miles on them. The only issue with the 2000-2007 models is that they have shotty wheel bearings that need to be re-packed or replaced quite often. It's kind of a bitch. Why Toyota did this I have no clue. They fixed that in the 2008 and up though.
@@christophermartin972 That's basically my point. Cleaning and re-packing wheel bearings is something you should have to worry about on a Realible Truck. That being the only issue is great in itself. The 2008 and up doesn't have wheel bearing issues, is the most re-fined and is also why they are to 100k with low miles. The cheapest I see them go for with even 75k miles is 50-60k. Speaking on the LX570 the other Crappy thing about them is there is currently no company that makes a coil spring conversion for them, Unless you want a lift kit. I use to own a P38 Range Rover about 12 years ago and as soon as the air suspension started giving me issues I converted it to a billstein coil suspension kit. The LX570 has a Hydraulic Suspension System with 4 little globes for each wheel. It's far more Realible than an actual air suspension but nowhere near as Realible as a good ole coil spring system, obvisouly.
Just got my midlife crisis 🤪 .... Just got an 2005 with 77 thousand on the clock only 8k. My other half, went what more rubbish you brought. She's the one that always picks the key's up only time i seem to get to drive is it when it needs fuel or the weekend lol
Worked on my 2008 LC. Thank you! Broke a couple of tabs on each side. The passenger side snapped back securely but the driver’s side wouldn’t quite seat properly and I was afraid it would vibrate loose, so I added a bit of glue. Works great now. Thanks again!
I wouldn't mind either, planning on buying an lx570 soon, cause the land cruiser seems to me more expensive on the used market than the lexus for some reason.
Thank you for finally showing interiors brother. I know the 200 LC is gone now, but I’ve now owned both of these and I miss some of the LX features but can appreciate the LC’s simplicity. Great video!
Yes sir, I took a bit of a break because life needed attention. I've got videos, mods, and something fast and special coming! Oh and I launched a Turo Fleet!!!
@@thisoldyota5516 which one is smoother or they are both the same? Do you think the LX hydraulic suspension is similar to range rover meaning it will fail at some point? I feel like the LX is better value in the used car market because the land cruiser is more expensive for some reason and not luxurious. Maybe its because there are more LX or the land cruiser is more reliable especially it has springs on its suspension.
You can do a 3 to 1 mix.. 3 Land Cruisers and 1 Mustang! I have 2 sports cars (996TT, E55) and 8 Cruisers... I love my 2008 LC, with poor man lift (spacers in front coils, a must) Rock Warriors etc... But I may love even more my 80 series (3 of them), HZJ73 (Diesel) HZJ73, FJ40 (modified) etc... HJ61... yeah, maybe I OD'd on my midlife crisis.. I can relate to my LCs... They too are older, but built strong and have years to go. Built to last and battle life!
I have been struggling without my sports cars, I've been car shuffling to make it happen very soon. I will say once you drive a Toyota/Lexus V8 sports car few things can compare! You are 100% right about the 80 series, I have an FZJ80 Triple Locked and a GX470 that I absolutely love. The 80 is bone stock and getting a lift very soon! My wife might also say I've gone all in on the car buying midlife crisis for the last two years 🤣. I am a huge fan of your channel, you have been a great resource for me in my beginning Land Cruiser journey keep up the great content! Thanks for stopping by, definitely motivation for me to raise the bar for my own content and get more consistent!!
We bought a 2014 LX570 a few years ago, has 100k miles now, really missed my tundra but I love the 200 series. The reliability in these is second to none! Great video 🤙
Thanks, my wife has an LX570 with 205k and I sold my 200 because we needed a Tundra again. I miss the 200 but every now and then I sneak out in the LX. Both the Tundra and 200 are amazing! I might still secretly be looking for a 200 series deal in the future!!!
I have similar. I love Mercedes and BMW but now only toyota. Fj cruiser daily driver,Lc200 long family trip and is350 mountain/ highway. I have not thought of buying a new car for many years
I have been daily driving my 2010 FJ Cruiser trail team edition with 240,000 miles for almost 13 years now, and last year, I bought a 2021 Land Cruiser with 8 miles, I use it when I am with the wife and my son, cause I know it will always bring us back home.
I just bought a new car (2022) for business purposes and it felt weird.....I will stick with my old high mileage Toyotas!!! Every personal vehicle we own is Toyota/Lexus 155k- 268k and all running perfectly! I've recently fallen in love with the RC F and have been unable to think of anything else, which means a lot because I've been a life long Mustang fan!!!!
I go with the Lexus LX570 because it has xenon headlights....camera system, best sound system, better more expensive leather seats.... power 3rd row seat. Power lift gate...etc
Hi. I’m local to NC. 2009 LX570. Like your intro. Only mods so far is tint and Wi-Fi added. I want to add Apple CarPlay. Looking a two possibilities. VROM module that uses present screen or an all in one screen that will sit on the dash.Tech is moving fast. Please keep us posted. Look forward to seeing you one day.
Will do! Mostly local trail riding but I'm starting to venture into Enduro and bike parks. I'm not a huge jumper but like the fun of techy and flowy stuff.
The car is already very capable. I would just update the suspension. Lift maybeb2 inches. But no more. I have a 97 tripplocked and I'm doing all kinds of things to it. New rad.new water pump. Rear heater delete., new hoses, spark plugs, rotor, cables, filters and more.. good luck with yours. And yes they are harder to get them with the lockers now a days.
Yes this suspension is tired and old!! My local shop is pushing for a 3" long travel baha racing setup.....2" is more my speed!!! Nice work, happy you're enjoying your 97!!
The vacuum hoses were replaced and it may have been removed/cleaned during valve cover gasket replacement. The plugs were replaced but otherwise no major service to the egr valve itself.
Great video! Give us a full walk around next time with interior included. I wouldn’t go with the 3” and long travel. I’d stay as original as I possibly can.
My boy! I’m looking forward to this and I’d like to know what off-road, A/T tire you’re going to go with that fits the LX’s 285/50/R20 wheel. It’s an odd size and some people are going with 285/55/R20 or 275/55/R20 but each is said to scrub at N-L height when turned and locked completely. I’d be interested to know what you’re going to do. I thought about dropping them altogether for some 18” Tundra takeoffs to get my KO2’s. Also, what phone mount are you using, please drop the link if you will.
That is a delicate question, this is my wife's daily and we have some interesting plans for this one. She loves gold wheels so we will likely go to an 18" with hefty tires. The phone mount is an Iottie Wireless with suction mount. Hardly an off-road worthy mention but great for quick and easy one handed operation. Many better options exist for stability and Off-Roading but these have been solid for us! iOttie Wireless Car Charger Easy One Touch Wireless 2 Qi Charging Dashboard Phone Mount for iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Huawei, LG, Smartphones smile.amazon.com/dp/B07X4YDKTF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_C3XAKG5Z5198ED2AKSX0?psc=1
Thanks and definitely I’ll check out the mount. Maybe you can tell us what’s the meatiest tire size in the 18 you can go with and not Scrub. I’m thinking 285/60/R18 or even a 65. Looking forward to your videos!
Coming soon for sure there are so many small differences I'm going to cover!! The quick and easy answer would be the hydraulic suspension in the LX vs the standard suspension in LC. Height control is really cool, but long term not what you want in an old off road vehicle.
