The recording was made for CD release (back in the day!) and is available now only on this RU-vid channel - as far as I know. Thank you for your comments, these pieces are so short and apparently simple yet so profound.
I tabled a public question to the city council many moons ago to see if it could be repaired. Estimates range from at least £100,000 to over half a million. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1DBczM0MtgY.html
Thanks for the link, and for publicly asking about the organ that belongs to the city. Now that the courts have moved out of the Guildhall it might be possible for the organ to be brought back into use, but money would need to be raised for its restoration from outside sources. Not impossible, other cities have done just that.
Agreed. I have waited decades to hear this so well done, You might also enjoy my recording of a Mustel in chamber music: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9e7f83i8Vp8.html
The score indicates stops 1 (8') and 4 (16') for treble, 1 for bass. But with the reed break between E and F, the treble dips into the 1 only (8') (e.g. measures 2 and 4), changing the timbre of the melody line at the note E. Yet the performance seems not to change timbre in those same measures, as though the E is both 8' and 16'. Did the performance use the same 1&4 and 1 registration as indicated in the score? Thanks.
I think you mean the first piece, in C major? Set 1 is as you say, 8 foot pitch, and so is set 4, a more reedy 8 foot. The 16 foot sound is set 2. And Set 3 is at 4 foot pitch. The exact registration given by Franck was followed.
Good day. I'm restoring an Alexandre Pere et Fils harmonium. In Mustel's Ecole, he states that when Expression is pulled, the feet cannot move the pedals down unless a stop and a key are used. On mine, I can push the pedals slowly down even if no stops or keys are used. Should the pedals be truly immovable, as Mustel writes? Thank you. Tom in Connecticut USA
Hello Tom, when using the Expression the internal reservoir is bypassed so the wind goes directly to the reeds. You should pedal and play at almost the same time. If your pedals move it means the instrument is not quite airtight. Mustel harmoniums in good condition are usually more airtight than other makes, making Alphonse Mustel's statement correct as regards his firm's instruments.
@@AnnePageCambridge Thank you very much. The harmonium is a learning experience for me, and I'm always trying to improve what I do. I think it's the most expressive keyboard instrument. I'm reading the Mustel Treatise, but my French is quite primitive. Can you possibly suggest someone in the USA or Canada who performs, and has a strong knowledge of harmonium technique? Tom M.
@@AnnePageCambridge Thank you. And thanks also for the video above, which, along with your Glasgow demonstration video, is what started my interest in the harmonium.
and the beautiful Mannborg harmonium suits this exquisite music ideally well. However I am horrified at the intrusive and unwelcome advertisements. They are not my idea!
@@AnnePageCambridge Your recording of the Karg-Elerts Romantic Pieces is also amazing, even fabulous, it was your recordings that made me decide to buy a Mannborg instrument. It is a pity that these recordings cannot be purchased on CD. I love your playing, the mastery of the instrument, the wonderful selection of Mannborg timbres, thoughtful and mastered phrasing, in a word, masterful playing. Again, hats off to your master art of harmonium playing :-)
Yes, this video uses the same two instruments and explains their use, as well as covering some of the history of the instrument. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AkauKbBfSv0.html
Great performance and recording! I also enjoyed the pairing of sheet music and recording. I’m looking for pieces to learn, and this is the perfect tool to see and hear at the same time. Thanks!
Breathtaking! K-E always comes up with something new, and Anne Page here makes an ethereal orchestra out of her superb Mustel. The pictures complement the music to perfection.
A piece like a giant cosmic scream ... In such intensity, I only know something like this from William Byrd's "Aspice Domine quia facta est desolata civitas ..." WILLIAM BYRD (1543-1623) : Aspice Domine ( 1575 - Cantiones Sacrae ) ru-vid.com/group/PLfdMKJMGPPtxq6702G-rEfPMqEQxmmvL2
