The Book of the Blessed Sacrament, Messiaen's last and most extensive organ work explores the theme of his first published work, Le Banquet Céleste (1928). It was composed in 1984 after his opera, Saint François d'Assise.
This recording was made by Anne Page in 2000 on the organ of Norwich Cathedral by John Whitehouse, founder of Merlin Audio, who tragically died before completing the editing. Anne Page then engaged Keith Wright to edit the recording which was subsequently brought out by Guild Records in 2002.
For this RU-vid release each of the 18 movements has been combined with photographs taken in and around Norwich Cathedral by Anne Page, with some kindly supplied by Paul Binski. There are two films, the first with movements 1 to 11 the second with 12 to 18:
