Hi Graham, thanks for the help and advice. In fact this morning I decided to concentrate on the problem from the second angle. Instead of trying to find a foots witch which would do what I want, I decided that first I'd explore again how to do it just from Cubase. The result was that instead of Cubase trying to control the X32 I now have the X32 controlling Cubase! It wasn't easy as I don't really understand these things (I'm 73) but in the end I managed to get Cubase's MIDI Remote Manager to put Cubase into and out of record when I toggle the MUTE button I wanted to use. Whilst doing this I discovered a lot more about the MIDI Remote Manager as well, so it wasn't a waste of time. I was also pleased not to have to buy another piece of kit! Thanks once again, Ross.
Hello Graham, from a hot and Olympic mad south west France Really clear and well explained video. Will the FCB1010 allow me to do what I'm trying to achieve what I want using Cubase and an X32? I know how to use Cubase macros and LPE, and have tried loads of things, however can you suggest how, when I go into record, I can transmit a CC over MIDI to an external device . To activate record it doesn't matter whether it's as a drop in, a manual mouse click, with the keyboard, or CC121 footswitch. The specific CC I want is 70 on MIDI Ch 2. What I want to do is send CC70 Value 127 to my Behringer X32 mixer. This is the value that will MUTE the main outputs of the mixer. I want to do this so that every time I start recording audio (from a mic) the audio in the room is cut (so no feedback and no other sound into the mic too). Presently, as I activate recording, I also press the X32 Mute button to achieve the effect I want. Not such a big deal, I know, but it would be so cool to just start recording and have Cubase do it for me! It would be nice to have the X32 unmute when recording stops too. Pressing MUTE on the X32 and have Cubase go into record would also be an option. I know that the mixer transmits CC70 info as I've checked using MIDI OX but as before nothing I try gets me to where I want to be. I know I can send time codes to external sequencers or accept them back but the mixer doesn't have these options. 😞 (Win10, C13Pro) Thanks in advance Stay well Ross Anderson
Dependant on what version of Cubase using this should be possible with an FCB1010 pedalboard. If you have Cubase 12 or 13 then there is a function called MIDI Remote, using this you can set up the FCB1010 to operate the transport controls in Cubase. Here's a link to a video I made on how to set that up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uUy1o8sSxzA.htmlsi=uvQaW2lNzkHUP4Er In this example the FCB1010 is sending 'note value's to trigger the transport functions. But......each preset button on the FCB1010 can send 1 note value, 2 CCs and 5 program changes simultaneously as well as controlling 2 expression pedals. So, for example I have my FCB1010 set up so that when I press preset 5 it triggers 'record' in Cubase (by sending note value 5), but I can also get it to send a CC value at the same time. Just did a quick experiment and set up my FCB1010 to send a CC value to a piece of my gear (my TC helicon voicelive) to activate an effect when I press preset 5 on the FCB1010....and it works. When I press preset 5, record starts in Cubase and simultaneously the effect is triggered on the voicelive unit. Therefore it should work for what you are trying to do i.e. trigger record in Cubase and send a CC to your X32 at the same time to mute the outputs. You should also then be able to assign a CC to whichever preset on the FCB1010 you program for the 'stop' button in Cubase to unmute the X32 when you stop it. This way you can start and stop recordings in Cubase with the footswitches on the FCB1010 and the X32 should automatically mute/unmute as required. Hope that all helps and made some sort of sense 🙂
Is there a way to program it to play a loop, or a pre-made midi track? Like if I wanted to start backing tracks at a specific time in a performance, could I have them programed in to the pedals?
Hi there, in theory yes it's possible. For example you could have your backing tracks/midi tracks (or indeed audio loops) set up in your DAW and you could use the FCB1010 to trigger those tracks in your DAW. As an example, here's a link to a video I did on setting up the FCB1010 to control the transport controls in Cubase. With this I can start and stop the tracks in Cubase, select individual tracks to either Mute or Solo them and use the pedals to control the volume of individual tracks or the overall master volume. Effectively this has the possibility of turning the FCB1010 into a sort of loop station when combined with a DAW. There are a number of other vids from other people on RU-vid showing how this can be done with other DAWs as well. I'd imagine (although not familiar with it) that if were using something like Ableton you could program individual buttons on the FCB1010 to trigger certain samples/clips/scenes etc. Hope that helps 🙂
Oops, here's the link to the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uUy1o8sSxzA.htmlsi=WU5HQowUQYfhHLal Also here's a video on doing looping in Cubase (which should translate to other DAWs as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DDhF66fYdaU.htmlsi=7lEoS16umcwmGleq
I was trying one of these at Guitar Center...some of the tonewheel samples have distortion effect... Can you take the distortion out with editing? Or is the distortion built into the sample? I prefer clean.
Hi - its a mix of effects and elements within each sound, so can easily be edited for a clean tone if required. For example a lot of the organs have one of the 'amp simulators' applied in the effects section to give a bit of distortion OR there are some where the distortion is actually a 'sample' itself (individual sounds can have up to 8 elements/or different samples layered together) which again can easily be edited out if required 🙂
Hi - depends on what synth your using. For example, my MODX8+ has an 'assignable footswitch' port which is connected to the FCB1010 and I can use that to trigger the arpeggiator on and off. However, the Deepmind (which I'm triggering in the video), unfortunately I have to do by hand. It should in theory be possible through a combination of MSB, LSB and Program Change messages sent from the FCB1010, but I've never been able to get it working (I think the architecture of the Deepmind just isn't compatible with what I'm trying to do 😞)
@@splootyvision Great thank you, another question if i buy a 1010 with chip uno, is this working with software editors u tell in other video? If you know..
@@jospower8802 Hi, full details on the available editors in this video on my channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MuGjGYuogpE.htmlsi=EltJQSwb70L18_2X In a nutshell: The PC Editor (the first one I show) works with the UnO chip but is only available for PC (Not MAC) and then the last one, the UnO control centre also works with the UnO chip and works on both PC and MAC - but costs about €24. There’s links to the websites for each of these in the description of the video at the link above. Hope that helps, Cheers.
Interesting question. I'd probably have to say the PolyBrute - just because it has more flexibility in terms of polyphony, better effects, more controls such as the ribbon controller and the morphee and the morphing function between patches. Having said that, I love the MatrixBrute but it's a much more raw sound that needs taming ! Tbh I suppose it all depends on what else I had with them. If it were my 'only' synth it would be the PolyBrute as it covers more bases, if I already had a big analog VCO polysynth then it would be the Matrixbrute 🙂
Great video ! and you set my mind to rest as I have one coming in a few days .I did see a video that had me freaking out as to the latency .Yet I have a solid good feeling now all will be well.I plan to use it with Logic pro 10 in a 2016 Mac book pro. Cheers mate ! Your new sub :>)
@@rogerioalves4038 Hi, what sort of problem are you having. I’m running Windows 10 and all works ok. Can’t recall exact procedure off top of my head, but I believe it’s: Download the ‘dll’ file Copy the dll file into your VST folder (wherever you have all your other VST files) When you open your DAW it should then scan the folder and add Synth 1 automatically in your list of VSTs Hope that helps ?
Hi there, great explanations - Thank you, I still have a question: At the end you say that alle devices are also aditionally connected via usb midi. ? This I do not understand- since the midi data is alleady connected via the 5 pin connections and should be able to give the midi data in the DAW Cubase. I would higly appreciate if you could give a a a clarification. best wishes-
Hi there, the devices are only connected to each other via 5 pin MIDI and not to the computer and therefore are not sending any MIDI data to the DAW. Basically I can use this set up without turning on my PC. If however I want to get the MIDI data into the DAW then they need to be connected to the computer in some way, which is where I use the USB connections. It's also worth remembering that MIDI is a 'one way' communication protocol i.e. data can only be sent in one direction on a single MIDI cable. In order for a keyboard to connect with the DAW over 5 pin MIDI it would need to be connected to a MIDI interface, which in turn would connect to the PC via USB and would need to be connected by it's MIDI in & MIDI out ports in order for the keyboard to both send and receive data. USB on the other hand offers 'two way' communication and can send and received MIDI data over one cable. Hope that helps and clarifies ? 🙂
@@100roberthenry Hi, I believe the trick is to use the ‘Control Room’ (only available if you have Cubase Pro) ‘The Control Room allows you to divide the studio environment into the performing area (studio) and the engineer/producer area (control room)’ Using control room you should be able to direct the click to say your headphones only, so that it doesn’t appear in the main mix that your listeners are hearing. Tbh I’ve not really used Control Room, so prob something to investigate further 🙂
Thanks for the explanation and demonstration of the difference between Polyphonic and Paraphonic modes. One thing you could change is shorten the video down to single or a couple of examples. No need to iterate and repeat yourself with everything - if someone gets it on two oscillators, they'll know how to extrapolate it to 3 and 4, no need to keep repeating that, it's annoying (I felt like you treat your viewer as a child or a dumb person, but maybe it's just me).
@@pituspete Thanks for the feedback. There’s a very wide level of knowledge out there from beginners to experienced and my aim is always to present content in the simplest way possible to appeal to and more importantly help the widest possible audience. The majority of feedback I receive is highly appreciative of this clear and simple approach, so apologies if you felt otherwise.
@@splootyvision don't get me wrong, it was clear and simply explained. All I was pointing out was that there's no need to go over all oscillators one by one because if someone understood the difference on two, there's no need to go over 3 and 4 as it's the same. If they didn't understand 2, they'll not understand 4 either (although I can't see how as you've made it easy to understand)😉 Imagine a video with hardware that has 128 polyphony, it would take a couple of hours 🤣
can you connect 4 xlr dynamic microphones with 4 tracks and 4 headphones to monitor all 4 mics? basically a podcast setup im looking for a budget audio interface that tracks 4 mics plus monitors em at the same time and I heard this was a good choice
Hi - Yep, you can connect the 4 mics and send them to 4 separate tracks. For the headphones, the best bet would be to add something like a Behringer HA400 4 Channel headphone amplifier connected to the 'headphone out' of the interface. It's relatively cheap at about $35 and allows individual control of the volume for each of the 4 headphone outputs. (PS. there are various other brands available but some are much more expensive and not sure I'd trust the cheaper ones). Hope that helps 🙂
Hi - open the preset browser in Polybrute Connect (to the left of the ‘preset name’ at the top of the screen there’s an icon, 3 vertical lines with one slanted line). Then either; 1. click on ‘Explore’ and then chose ‘Banks’ from the filters above the preset list and you should find all the installed sound banks to choose from. 2. Open the preset browser as above and then just click on ‘Soundbanks’ in the left hand menu and again will show all the installed sound banks. To get the sound on the polybrute itself, just click on the required preset in polybrute connect and the sound will come up on the actual polybrute. If you want it on the polybrute ‘permanently’, you need to save the presets in a project - in the project section there is then a ‘send to polybrute’ option. Hope that helps.
Thank you for the review: Fantastic! I have the Behringer U-Phoria 22 Which is the smaller version of this. I would love to up grade! I was wondering how to connect a cassette multitrack recorder to the audio interface and transform it to computer(Tape to computer!) I am only setting up my studio at the moment so I don't know what to get and cables etc? You seem in the know! Many thanks, Kevin
Hi - I’m assuming the multitrack has stereo out jack sockets on the back (L/Mono and R). I which case just simply run a standard 1/4 inch jack cable form each of the outputs into the first 2 inputs on the front of the UMC404 and then connect the Behringer interface to the computer with a usb cable (presuming the computer has standard usb ports then you want a USB-A to USB-C cable). In your DAW on the computer can then create an ‘audio track’ and choose inputs 1+2 from the UMC404 as your input. The audio will be received in stereo from the multi tracker via the inputs on the interface and sent to the DAW audio track on the computer via the USB. If you need to connect monitors to here the sound you can either connect XLR or 1/4 inch jack from the ‘main outputs’ on the back of the interface to whatever your monitor connections are (probably RCA ?). This will still leave inputs 3+4 free on the interface to add other instruments for recording on the computer (either as a stereo pair or as 2 x mono). Hope that helps 🙂
Tbh shouldn’t make too much odds unless a long cable runs (like 20ft or more). Also depends if the outputs on the multi track are balanced ? If they are I’d run TRS cables, if not then TS cables would be fine.
HEY CAN THE BEHRINGER MIDI PEDAL CONTROL VST PLUGINS SAY IF YOU HAD IT CONNECTED TO A KEMPER AND YOU WANT TO ARM A VALHALLA REVERB VST COULD IT DO THIS?
Hi - no experience with that exact combination but I would say it should be possible. I have my FCB1010 set up so it can turn effects on and off in Guitar Rig 6 pro which is a VST. Also worth noting that the FCB1010 can send 2 CC messages, 5 program changes, 1 note value and control 2 exp pedals per preset and....each of these 10 parameters can be sent to individual MIDI channels, so you can control/trigger multiple piece of kit at the same time. Hope that helps 🙂
Hi - if you're referring to the 'editor' software I used to program the FCB1010 pedal board - the one I showed here is only available for PC, but there is another editor that is available for both PC and MAC from Mountain Utilities. I did a video on the different software editors that are available which you can find here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MuGjGYuogpE.htmlsi=crgEr7P5FpDGBUcR (There's link in this videos description to the websites for the different software editors). Cheers 🙂
Thank you for this great video! Could you tell me how you manage to change scenes with your foot pedal. I got the simple Hotone (4 pots), have set „scene cc“ to 92 - but alas, nothing happens :) ..Setting on Hotone: Channel Omni, CC 92, 1 (for scene 1) … Thank you so much for your thoughts!
Hi there, you need to set a value alongside the CC number to tell it which scene to choose. Had a quick look at the Hotone specs and see there's an app for configuring the MIDI messages, and in there it shows the message type e.g. CC and then Data 1 and Data 2. Data 1 would be where you assign the CC number i.e. 92 which denotes the Scene fuction and then under Data 2 you need to set a value that denotes which scene. The values you need are as follows: Scene 1 = 0 Scene 2 = 16 Scene 3 = 33 Scene 4 = 49 Scene 5 = 65 Scene 6 = 81 Scene 7 = 97 Scene 8 = 113 Hope that helps (and works) :-)
PS in addition to earlier reply you also need to make sure that the MIDI channel you are sending the midi messages on is set to the same channel as your MODX and also, in Utility section of the MODX go to MIDI I/O and make sure the MIDI in/out setting is set to MIDI and not USB.
@@splootyvision Thank you so much, for your reply! I did all that - also adding data 2 by increments of 16 for each scene.. no luck, I think my unit is fault as it is not recognised by Modx using USB. It works using 5Pin.
What do you do, so that you play a bassline on one of the synths and it then just keeps looping, while you then play the lead or a pad on one of the other synths? I don't get how you do this, yet i've seen you and many others do this on your vids. You play and then move to the next part and the part that you've just played is still playing.
Hi there - there’s various ways of doing it. One way I do this is by using my DAW (Cubase) as in the following video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DDhF66fYdaU.htmlsi=SzjNidPn1Vcjko9D Another way is just by using the built in sequencers on some of my synths. For example the MODX has a built in performance recorder that you can set to keep looping, the Matrixbrute and Polybrute both have 64 step sequencers that you can use to record a bass line or sequence live and and then let the sequencer keep looping round 🙂
I'm digging your well thought out setup! You've got awesome variety and seamless integration! Trying to get a similarly cohesive studio going myself but I'm currently struggling with audio/midi I/O ... I bought too much hardware over the years, without much planning for overall integration. (Mac Mini dedicated to Maschine MK3 and Komplete Kontrol S61, M1 Pro Macbook Pro/Ableton/Push 2 as primary DAW/ Virus TI2 D/Deepmind 12/Neutron/MS-1/Hydrasynth Keys/Microfreak/Deluge/Elektron Model Cycles, A4/OT/MD UW+/Keystep Pro and Yamaha P60 midi controllers, and finally, 2 iPad Pros for instruments/effects and Lemur for Ableton control. Not even bothering with outboard effects/pedals until I get an interface that can handle everything. The Behringer options look like decent candidates (Wish I could afford a Wing! ;) .. But currently leaning toward an Arturia 16rig , and using my Motu Ultralite as a submix via ADAT.
I have actually added an Arturia PolyBrute and a Roland TR-8S since this video 🙂. Tbh the heart of the hardware is the midi merge and midi thru boxes that allow everything to link together really well with minimal fuss 🙂
@@splootyvision wow, congrats! Quite the crown jewel in your collection! :) I think I'd rather have Poly than the Moog One, tbh, as at least I'd be able to keep one kidney and have one of, if not THE most expressive analog synths ever. ;) ... It's actually why I settled on the Virus TI2 just this week, to settle the gas fever I had for Poly12. Been longing for one ages.
