I'm waiting for you to get a hands on the 3rd iteration, Beithir's Tale 15yo... with their standard marketing fluff... "special custom air dried charred casks." Haha! Thank you for the Blink-182 reference 😂😂😂
Couldn't have said it better. This feels like and is a sellout. At those prices it should be cask strength or be properly curated for a strength that best represents all that ardbeg can be.
I went to a Springbank and Kilkerran tasting last week, there was no Hazelburn unfortunately, but the whisky that I enjoyed most there was the SB 18. Luckily I was able to pick up a SB 12 CS for a really good price that was btw not part of the tasting. SB 15 was also good btw with those leather and tobacco notes Hazelburn 10 is currently one of my favorite whiskies out there, really love that grapefruit note in the flavor
Speaking about packaging, LVMH really f’d up Glenmorangie’s packaging. It was so classic but now it seems like they want to target children and the visually impaired
hahaha Well, confidence i guess influences but yeah. Almost spectacular ... not quite actually not almost, in that direction but not there or close but certainly not the worst of the terrible shit that has come out lately
The rant is because social media has been 'abuzz' with this stuff, i always rant about diageo, so i figured i would rant about something else :) but yes, value for money ... some of them are ok i would say 50/50 is a hit and miss esp value fo rmoney imo. I just had this samurai 2023 mortlach 2 days ago, shite balls i tell ya, what a joke
You are ABOSULTELY spot-on : from low peat to the floral notes ---- I still have 2 bottles of this Older version pre-2008, now that the NEW version returns . . . yes, agreed = it was not at all typical of Ardbeg if blinded. Nice review !
Boy oh boy am I glad youre back. Loved your reaction to this one. Lets go back to 2005 and pick up a few bottles. Signatory has a huge legacy of great whiskies as well as some intensely sherried and old drams. I do keep an eye out for old sig and G&M bottles nowadays. By the way, the Glenturret you've reviewed is very rare but value is mega. Last sold at WA for £150 2 years ago. That sounds like an absolute steal.
@eatsmokedrink I won't spoil it for the audience but I did a quick Google search. I see you're leaving the best till last. I'm tuned in bro, you're doing a great job as always. The Lalique Glenturrets are just beautiful bottles. I'm dying to try the recent 25 and the 30. One can dream.
@@Whiskynewspaper We don't get them much here! adelphi is what I have but distillery bottlinsg we don't get them much here but will start keeping an eye for them.
My father in law gave me some old Signatory bottles he had. A 1985 25 year old Highland Park a peated Macallan from the 90's. Amazing stuff. Buy them all. Cheers.
Hi eat drink and smoke I have a bottle of glenturret had old, and I'm not a fan boy for sure, I've not had the bottle that you have, I know you are not going to blow smoke up anyone's ass, but the ob bottle of glenturret 12year old is just not my cup of tea, and I have over 200 bottles of scotch, I guess I'm going to give it a chance to open up some more, I've had the bottle open for about 2 months now but it has not opened up or I just don't like it !! I would love to have a sip of what you are drinking to see what the fuss is all about, you seem to be really enjoying it alot. If I could tell you of a standout whisky it would be this bottle 2002 organic oloroso cask finish, it's stupid good, the only problem is I could only at cask cartel for $330.00 USA dollars, that includes the shipping, I have bought me 2 bottles for my bunker and working on the single first bottle (deanston)product, I forgot the name, sorry, anyway it's the best whiskey I have ever had, and I have been drinking scotch for 38 years, I love your reviews as I have said, keep them coming, cheers, I was drinking along with you, later Sir !!!
I haven't tried Hazelburn or Longrow , only tried Springbank 10 a couple month back when was out for a few drinks and I wasn't impressed . I dunno if I got the dreggs of a bottle or something but it was just flat and really lacking taste wise. Have you had any of the Thompson Bros releases they have put out some ridiculous whisky over past 2 yrs . The Glen Garioch 2012 they put out in particular was unreal plus they have a couple of their own bottlings done at Dornoch.
Must have been dreggs... SB 10 is a hell of a 10yo benchmark but the 12/15 is markedly different. The 10 imo is not something I would fuss about but we get it for our club anwyays. I tried gg cask strength sherry cask lately and that was delicious actually surprising. Thomson bros i tried one and it was very youthful but had good dna for sure!!
Good to have you back mate! I hope you and Karen are doing well. Looking forward to your new posts. Im getting into the Bourbon here and you should come visit and comment on that! Lots of love from the USA.
I understand the rant! Terrific video!! I will always love Lagavulin except for the 2023 Lagavulin 12 finished in Tequila casking!! I do love Lagavulin smoke!! You are right - I know many women who drink high end scotch!! Beyonce's whisky is garbage by the way! Sorry! Half my scotch club is sophisticated women!!
exactly. not 'our' fault it was marketed mainly to men. that is some cynical sh it. now there is this pseudo feminist movement for scotch and I am like... no one cares, no one told you not to drink it in the last how many years, we all want you to drink it, we are all the same and none of us are special haha
So glad you are back!! Moderation!! Lol! I likeMezcal with amazing smoke although superb peated scotch is my jam. I have concerning autoimmune issues right now so I am being very cautious with alcohol intake - always have been in truth! Cheers my friend!!
oh no! well, nothing is more important than health and that is a much better reason to drink less drink the best. hope you get better/nothing too serious!
Loved this beauty! Love seeing your reviews starting back up! They are fabulous! You crack me up my friend!! Ballsy rocks!! 🙂I would also prefer a higher ABV but this is an Ardbeg worth buying and Ardbeg fans are loving it. I'm happy to have a few bottles! For peated scotch lovers it's hard to imagine giving up on Ardbeg! I'm a bigger Kilkerran fan than Springbank although I have a couple of older Springbanks to try. Love you videos! Glad you are safely back in gorgeous NZ! I miss it!!
Kilkerran is a puncher for sure, love it as well, I have put the word out to suppliers i want the 18/19yo release when it is out sbs have gotten too expensive and they are good on ballot primary prices but secondary gets silly> good to be back and this ardbeg is certainly a better one of late but imo still diminished compared to earlier releases but hey... such is life.
Appreciate your take…I’m kinda over Ardbeg… been there done that… however this sounds tempting and starting to see it being discounted…for the prices they are charging I agree it should be a higher abv. Cheers 🥃
Hi mam I like ardbeg a lot, I just went to the liquor store a couple of days ago and saw a bottle of the spectacular sitting on the shelves, I'm an ardbeg fan, and almost bought the bottle, but held back because I didn't know why because you never see any ardbeg (just sitting)so I passed it up. The box was almost all black, so I didn't know anything about that whisky, should I go pick it up, I live about 50 miles from the liquor store, one way, if you liked it that much, should I go get it ?? It seems you enjoyed it alot, have you tried the ardbeg arrrrrrrbeg yet, it's hard to find but we'll worth the price when I bought my bottle ($200.00) I don't know why more people aren't watching your reviews, because I love your channel, and I always do when they come out, cheers brother and keep up the great reviews, looking forward to your answers on the ardbeg spectacular (committee or non committee release) !!! Frankie H.
@christinecamley Hi if you like ardbeg as much as I do, then you need to find a bottle of the ardbeg arrrrrrrbeg committee release from a few years ago, I hope this doesn't put you off, but on the neck pour from the bottle tates like water from a garden hose that has had hot water left in it, but give it about a month in the bottle to get some air, and come back to it, and you just can't believe how good it will taste, it blew my mind, it tastes like a totally different whisky, delicious to say the least, it's nothing like the neck pour, it's one to die for, I have one last bottle and don't want to open it, but I will sooner or later, I payed $200.00 a bottle, now I think it's around $300.00 on the secondary market, for me it's still worth what ever the price is, cheers, and hope you can find a bottle !!!
I love that it is being discounted, as they disillusion whisky lovers, actual lovers of whisky not people who fall for hype/marketing and fancy labels - I hhope it crashes and they stop doing stupid cynical shit. But yeah, I am over new ardbeg too tbh, the older one is commanding so stupid price wise so yeah.
Interesting. I have only one 'simple' bottle of Mezcal (just 40%). I bought it a couple of years ago as I was fascinated by the novel 'Under the Vulcano' by Lowry, a very difficult yet fascinating read.
they are challenging, but something about them are pleasurable in saying that if you like Islay the segway is not huge but if you are borderline on islay whisky then mezcal won't even go near acceptable for you. Not my preferred drink but i certainly enjoy a glass here and there
Welcome back mate! Always enjoy a mezcal as it's something different from peaty scotch. However I'm also very much aware that there's a massive supply issue of the raw material as these plants in some cases need decades to properly mature to be harvestable for good quality mezcal. Also the natural variety of these plants is on the verge of getting wiped out and becoming monoculture. Let's hope that they are able to prevent that from happening.
yeah that is an issue for sure, in saying that i think natural harvesting is unlikely to beg sustainable wiwth the growth of tequila/mezcal and planting the bajeezus out of it will help not make it extinct, That is also w hy i believe we should farm rhinos, elephants and whales. but hey.....
"You don't like Mescal because you went to Mexico and woke up in a bathtub with your kidney missing and a sore asshole " ...Beautiful Poetry , Floral imagery ! .. you need to put that on your business card ..😜
Hey brother, another great video. Question for you Flying into Mexico next weekend, I know I can take up to 25 cigars without paying tax. Any issues with taking Cuban cigars into Mexico that you know of?
oh yeah man, mezcal be can be so interesting. delicious too but I cannot handle much of it, it is like drinking 'richness' in liquid form. so much spirit in the spirit.
Great rant! Missed you… As interesting as these Diageo special releases are… they are generally overpriced and seemingly hit or miss… some great some meh or overly over coated with various 2nd& sometimes 3 rd maturations… like the Mortlach you mentioned. I find the Talisker the most reasonabley priced and most consistent quality wise… Cheers 🥃
