If you love to sing and geek out on your voice you have come to the right place. Come learn with me through geeky and easy step-by-step videos, that demystify singing!
After working in Los Angeles as a vocal coach teaching 50+ singers a week for the past six years I decided it was time to share the knowledge I have gained from working with so many different voices. I'm a major geek when it comes to singing. I love to figure out how each person use their voice and how we can work on it to create the sound that you want. And I LOVE questions so please ask away and I will do my best to answer. Let's geek out on your voice :)
As a vocal teacher, I love your channel and use it a lot, particularly with beginning students. I love the vids on breathing. I use slides like you to address the register transition and feel two other things help: having the students remember their breath support and bringing the resonance into the mask (and therefore out of the throat). Great work, please keep it up!!!
What’s weird is that my first language is English and I learned German when I was 8. The weird part is that when I speak German my voice is dramatically lower than when I speak English. I don’t know what to do because I live in Germany and have to speak it all the time.
Didnt realize that a raised soft palate cuts off nasal resonance. I sing more classical choral anthems in a choir setting. I sing with some nasal resonance but not too much. So do I balance between high palate and nasal resonance,.. or do I misunderstand this.
Thank you for posting. You come across SO warm and friendly. I have had years of good lessons years ago. Dealing with tension and getting hoarse quickly. I'm going to work on this trying these tips. I am regularly trying to sing with more volume than I should in choir or trying to sing above orchestra. I just need to chill and sing at my optimum level! I will watch lots of your videos! Thanks Again, and your expressions are so cute.
This is such a useful video. LITERALLY YESTERDAY i searched for "how to not sound like kermit the frog when singing" and today i watch the video and you address the exact problem. Amazing.
I was always told that i have the ability to hit low notes but i didn't expect to hit a G1 so easily as my lowest and an F5 as my highest! Not sure how i got such range but i am still surprised!! Thank you for helping me confirm my lowest and highest singable notes
This is an awesome easy-to-understand video. I plan to show the first part to my kids choir to explain proper breathing technique. Thank you for making this video!
Wonderful explanation. I've loved music all my life, and singing. At 72 my voice is not as good as it was, esp in the high end. I listen to Fil from Wings of Pegasus often, and he mentions head voice and chest voice, but despite my request for him to explain...he won’t explain. Your explanation is great. I love your suggestion that “to engage your head voiice imagine you're talking to your pet.” I laughed, because I've owned cats over many years and I always spoke to them in head voice. Tho my last cat died years ago, I still talk to her and engaging my head voice brings enormous joy. Pls don't tell anyone. This is is soooo embarrassing. (kidding)
Thank you!!! I just joined our community choir. I was told to "do lip trills" went I practice my scales. Easier said than done!!! Thank you. Well done!😀
I had a doubt. In both the scales, do I have to sing in one go? As in once I take a deep breath and then checking till what scale I reach or can I do it without deep breathing and one go?
Thank you so much for your rest I can't do carry a tune I didn't even know what rhythm was until I was in my 30s nobody wanted to take the time to teach me thank you thank you thank
The only reason why I'm here is because I growl sing and I want to know if I'm damaging my vocal cords cuz I'm intentionally straining them but I'll be fine after a screaming session after a ton of water, except for coughing and stuff😅
