White nails are easy because you can see the vein. But What about black nails, when the quick or vein is impossible to find. I understand that a black spot can be seen when trimming a small portion of long nail at atime. Seeing the black spot is my stop cutting sign. Whatcha Reckon? I'm in Wales UK. Thanks for your tips... very helpful
… My GSD has mostly got black nails which makes it really hard to figure out where the vain is ending. I probably could cut his nails shorter but I am not comfortable doing it. I did cut one of his nails too short once and the blood from the vain shocked me. Luckily had a pet first aid kit. It didn’t bother him one bit as he is a GSD after all but I felt really bad and since then I am being really careful and managed to avoid it happening again. I really wish his nails were all white …
Its always best to only cut a little off, rather than go to far ,and possibly loose your dogs trust..I struggle with all black nails sometimes as well..We appreciate you watching, and commenting..
Absolutely, I wouldn't know what to do without them..We appreciate you so much Elizabeth, and all you do for all the beautiful pups on your end..We love you..
You are an angel, Rudy. I’d give my right arm if I could get my standard poodle to you. It breaks my heart every time I have to pluck her ears. I know that it’s not pleasant for her. But if I knew that you were working on her and loving her the way you do all of your pets, my heart would be calm. Ever consider moving to North Carolina? 😉❤️
OMG! This is the nicest comment ever..I wish I lived closer too..I have been to North Carolina twice, and absolutely loved it..Y'all are so kind ,and polite to one another down there..Jersey can be a bit rough at times..lol
That's wonderful to hear ! You're very welcome, we've come to see that nail clipping is one of the most sought after topics that people want/need help with, so we're trying to get as much info out there as we can on the subject, so happy it helped you ! Thanks so much for watching
My heart goes out to dear Fluffy and YOU! So traumatic for you both. What a relief it is to see someone be as calm and gentle grooming a matted dog! Taking the time before you even laid hands on her, giving her several breaks, offering water shows your true living compassion! BRAVO ! Job well done!
A lot of the dogs that hates their nails done, is the fault of the breeder that doesn’t handle the pups feet and start trimming them as soon as they have growth.
We have a springer doodle who is 3/4 poodle 65 lbs. We couldn't afford to keep bringing him to the groomer monthly. Bought clippers and scissors and it payed for itself in the first 2 months. I like keeping his hair short, 1/2" during the summer because he likes getting in the water and getting dirty. The hair gets too long and he overheats. Long hair acts like a big mop carrying the dirt and mud everywhere. The grooming videos are greatly appreciated. I'm upgrading my clippers this next month.
Thank you so much for your kind comment..I'm so happy to hear that the videos help..I give you a lot of credit, and praise for doing it yourself..We appreciate you
My first groom was for Minnie. She was a rescue dog that a friend, Myrtle, got off the street. Minnie looked like a poodle and once groomed was a schnauzer. This was in 1982. So the benefit is known.
Are some dog's nails much harder than others? You made the clipping look effortless, but when I do my Irish Setter's nails, sometimes I need both hands to get through them and it upsets her.
Yes,some dogs nails are very soft, and gummy, others are very brittle, and some are very thick..You may need a larger nail clipper..We appreciate you..Thank you so much for watching us
We have 5 Yorkies. 2 are rescues. Every one is them hates it and will fight us, pull away, snap etc. Makes me cringe so the vet office usually does it. It isn't cheap any more.
Have you ever tried using a tiny flashlight to find the quick on a dark-clawed dog? I’m not a groomer, but I had to learn or figure some things out for my yorkie in the pre-RU-vid days. Flashlight was my method and it has worked for me. By illuminating the opposite side of the nail, the quick’s shadow becomes visible.
I just love listening to the tender way you two talk to these dogs. I’m sure they feel as safe as possible under the often uncomfortable or unfamiliar circumstances and they all know how much you care for them.
I use my Amope and sand the nails down rather than clip them. I use it on several family dogs & a bunny. Nails are smooth & the Amope is not loud so it doesn't scare the furs.
He looks like an entirely different dog!!! Looks like my g Mas black poodle named Jet that I grew up with and loved! You completed the perfect groom! First time I've watched your channel and I'm already addicted. Ty for the entertainment!
That poor baby!!!! My parents yorkie has become neglected with her grooming for many reasons. After I bathed her, combed out her mats, clipped her nails and coat-she felt like a new dog and absolutely bounded around everywhere she went. They truly experience that grooming neglect physically and psychologically-even if they’re otherwise loved and cared for.
What kind of set up would you recommend for someone that wants to wash, cut and groom their dogs at home. Something portable that would allow to cut nails and coat too.
Very good tutorial. Your dog is so well behaved. Says so much about you as a man. Your kindness and patience and love. Eddie is absolutely beautiful. Man’s best friend for life. Thanks be to God. Much love and prayers. Thank you❤️💯🙏🏻🐶🥇
