Good stuff thanks for sharing. Try using a bamboo chop stick to remove the firing pin retaining plate. If it slips it won’t scratch the blueing on that beautiful colt pistol.
On mine that transfer bar would NOT line up with the thumb safety knob no matter what unless I removed that angled block that the hammer assembly sits up against right in front of it. Once I removed that, I was finally able to get things lined up right and then re installed whatever that angled block is called. (the piece you didn't remove in this vid) Maybe every one of these is slightly different so if you can't get yours, try removing that piece first.
about the same amount of stuff left as I have on my 620 but the "think", I'm not looking forward to is, working on the stripped out oil filter rod as I most likely have to work thru crankcase top cover or pull the block and have a bigger opening
Yes I am aware it's rough. I believe the only reason I'm intrested in saving this one is because of the serial number and it came with every factor option in its day
I used to hunt all the time when I lived in England. We’d give all the meat to the local pub so we could eat and drink for free. It was headshots only so no meat was ever wasted. It took me a long time to realize that that’s not exactly normal 😅
Great video brother, it looks as if your series 70 doesn't have the collet barrel bushing. did you replace it or is this how it came from the factory.I have a Colt series 70 i bought new in 1980 and it has the collet barrel bushing.
Hurt for ya when she made you make a promise like that, when clearly it hadn't been taken care of along the way. But kudos to you for taking it on and being faithful with the rebuild.
@@CowboyNation1977 They were definitely 12 volt, thought they did use two 6 volt batteries at the time. Pretty much everyone just uses a single 12 volt now. Minor battery tech improvements over the 60 odd years or so!
You have the lift arm for the 801 hitch like you said, the other part that you guessed was a cultivator bracket is also part of the 801 hitch. I can see that you have two brackets with horizontal pins on your drawbar, these are for the lower lift arms on the 801 hitch. You'll want to keep those as well.

Im getting My Granmpa's JD 50 next month.. He gave it to my step dad before he passed away. Its been sitting for at least 30 years. My step dad said they got it started and are replacing the breaks before they bring it.. I do know the original seat is gone. It was all tore up when I was young and Grampa would take me for rides.. I remember it being black but my step dad says it was originally yellow.. I have tried searching for pictures or anything from the factory with no luck.. I can buy both yellow and black after market.. Do you know what was the original color?
