Such a thing is almost impossible, we like to think as humans as a species we would be able to to but realistically, the chance of us stopping an incoming asteroid is almost nihil. Nuclear weapons and such don't work well in space. And then there's the problem of us getting to it before it gets to us/the chance it goes by unnoticed.
With the absolutely ABSURD amount of health code and safety laws this man was violating, I am truly bewildered as to how his company didn't get shut down and how he didn't get arrested.
There are signs around the place that say that if you see certain people (i.e. an OSHA Inspector), you were to report it immediately. It's likely anyone who did try to shut them down was... "dealt with".
