Oh. My. Gosh. His made me cry! His eyes. His hands, like you said! Absolutely like he will speak to us when we are done saying good morning! Oh, give Mr. Sam a hug for us!

Excellent abstract ! All my signatures are interesting and “fun”. No two are alike. Like the painting itself, that’s what I enjoy doing. It’s part of my identity. Did you say why it shouldn’t be “cute” ? What is the reason for “non-cuteness” ?
I'm a brand new baby artist, started painting in Nov 2023, and I hadn't considered consciously that my signature is a compositional element, but of course it is hahaha. I almost never know where it will end up, I just look at the finished piece and see where it wants to go. And if it's particularly abstract I like to pick an "unusual" place to sign, kind of as a way to indicate that there is no right or wrong way to hang it. Also, I signed my name approximately a million different times trying to create the perfect Artsy Artist signature, and am pleased with what I ended up with. I both take myself deadly serious AND absolutely not seriously at all, so I am having a great time cosplaying as an established, respected artist and trying to implement the best practices of same.
Reading the title of this video, my first thought was: Ah, Thomas, your paintings don't need a signature! Anybody can tell it's a Schaller at first sight. 😍 But it does make sense what you said about it, thank you. Greetings from Hungary! 🌷🎨
I think manual sketching (rather than taking photos or creating images with technology) helps us tp remember what we see better---we notice more of what is there as well.
My first exposure to you, your teaching and your paintings..I am impressed…I’ve been familiar with push-pull going back to early 2000. The painting above my bed is my attempt to create a Hons Hoffman, so I am reminded of him everyday. Not sure that is really helpful in my pursuit of painting. When I saw some of his work at MOMA in 2005, I was disappointed in how dull . his paint was. I like oil because of its luminosity. I appreciated your video and looking up your painting’s on Google. Captured my interest immensely and appreciated your love of the endless possibility provided by the world of “gray/grey” Thanks…
Everything you have said is correct. Just get out the brushes and colours and paint! Easier said than done. We think of wasting paper, paint or we are not good enough, we will fail… Confidence is a huge part of learning to paint. Happy painting all ✏️🎨🖍️ Just do it!
One of my teacher told us as a rule of thumb: Mitte is Schitte, which is the German saying for: Mid is shit. Easy to memorize, I still remember it after more than three decades..
Is he saying these aren’t photorealistic?? 😮 (kidding). I think this guy is one of the most insanely talented realistic watercolorists. I don’t even understand how he’s able to achieve some of these pieces in watercolor
Thomas Schaller is and has always been my inspiration for watercolor! I actually started drawing and then painting because I fell in love with his cityscapes! ❤
Hi Thomas, are you able to tell me which special paint/factory/pigment of "Rose Madder" you've choosed? There are so many fugitive paints out there, so that I don't want choosing one of those... Many thanks in advance. Thanks so much for all your helpful vids and books.
