Hey so who can do the driveshaft and could you put me into contact tape performance with one of your Australian buddies so I can get that Loom? I' build cars all the time but I won't buy a g8 if I can't manual swap it
I swapped mine. I used a Camaro tr6060 and I've had to pull the trans out twice now. Once cause of engine issue and now for a slave cylinder issue. But am I just not smart or is yours the same, the tranny hits the transmission tunnel in the car and is an absolute nightmare to get out. Shouldn't source a gxp bell housing or what's the solution
Ok where do I find fkn struts for my basic 2009 Pontiac G8 Base sedan V6. Been looking for weeks and can't find sht, plus I have a rattle in the front too. Not to mention my abs light is on along with my airbag fault light too. Need help finding parts badly
When you say "Commodore harness" do you mean body harness? Engine harness or transmission harness? Or are they all the same? Thanks I need this so i can continue to gather up parts.
For future reference they still make the rear section for the GXP. Mate that reman to your auto front section and your golden of you get the GXP TR6060. There is only a few places in the US that can balance a two piece with our mounting type. Pretty expensive and in itself rare.
For the driveshaft. They still make the rear section of the GXP shaft. So you use your front shaft from the auto , buy the rear shaft to the GXP that's the right length and bolt it in. Google GXP driveshaft and they have Dura Last reman rear sections of the driveshaft. New carrier bearing and boot and your free of the shakes. Big power doesn't apply but 500HP NA builds your golden.
I just literally scored and entire GXP drivetrain (Minus the diff ). Interior pieces , harness all of it. All I need is to pick up a new clutch and flywheel and send off the BCM. I'm stoked. Nice video man 👍🏼
@@Mikeselchow see that's what I was hoping someone would say, just testing the waters here. It's kinda like the Pontiac GTO in the early 2000's, just a rebadged Holden.
at what point in the swap did you get the tune done? would starting the car up after the swap before getting the tune mess anything up? for example, could i do the swap and then drive my car on the trailer to take it to the tuner?
how did you get the tcs to work ? when I press the tcs button it shows up in the gauge cluster as "esc off" but it doesn't do anything. can you shed some light on this, thanks
@@doomedgarage7580 am sorry. I meant my tcs is working but I am not able to switch it off , when I press the button to switch it off it shows up as switched off but actually it still switched on
I did my manual trans swap on my 2008 G8 about six years ago. I was lucky enough to buy all the original GM GXP parts, including the harness, trans, drive shaft, shifter, everything, straight from GM. I was told at the time I got the last GXP manual harness in the USA. Got a manual diff from a GXP. I eventually fell in love with Corvette C7s and ended up selling the G8 to my best buddy from high school. In hindsight, I would not do the trans swap because it turned into a hardcore muscle car and became too much effort to drive with a lady. I had previously done the cam, headers, tune, and with the manual trans it was just a handful and relegated the G8 to just a badass, rough driving car that a typical woman would not understand or want. But I was also 55, which is a whole lot different from a 25 year old doing it. Hell yes I would love it if I were that age again. I should have just done a diff swap and a high stall converter and kept it an auto. Would have been a much better daily driver. Live and learn. But C7s (manual) are awesome cars and far, far, superior to the G8. The cost of the trans swap was close to $9,000 in total. New Tremec 6060 for the GXP was almost $4,000 by itself. I still have my complete parts list with GM part numbers, cost, etc. I also have the build notes from my engine build. Happy to share if you hit me up.
Our source in Australia for Tremec gear is Mal Wood Automotives He makes his own short shifter approved by Tremac just did my HSV Grange with a Magnum F And run 3.73
Yeap ducks guts, got them installed on my HSV Grange, long wheelbase WH , got mine set at 15 clicks front, 13 clicks rear Not much will out drive me Don't forget to do your body mounts etc
