We have canoed the white water of the Niobrara River, we have canoed into Canada, we have driven into Mexico for lunch and have driven our car into Manhattan where it felt like it was just us, taxis and limos! Between the two of us we have been on nine mission trips, we have tent-camped at every one of the Great Lakes except Lake Superior where we rented a sea villa. We have bare-boat chartered in the Gulf of Mexico, San Diego Bay, Tampa Bay, the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. We are now full-time liveaboards on the Chesapeake Bay, with hopes and dreams of full-time cruising, with a bucket list which includes a circumnavigation of this beautiful planet! We have been friends for years, married for over 40 years and we are JUST getting started.

Howdy Jim and Miss Teri! Awesome, y'all are out on the big water! How exciting. Loved the view of the Bridge, that was the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, wasn't it? I live not too far away from there. Glad all is going well and yall are back to sailing(motoring). Looking forward to more!

the bridge was such a surprise, we didn't realize that we were that close to it, it was just beautiful! we can't wait until we're able to cut the motor and just sail, we need to get a little further south before we're able to take our time and to be able to tack back and forth, it's been awhile!

Jim & Teri.....So you're going to do it, you certainly have done at lot to that old lady and you certainly have done the old gal a fair turn....you're handy with tools Jim and that will serve you on the seas. One concern, do you have some kind of "fiberglass JB Weld" of whatever the equivalent is in case she springs a leak....and do you have portable submersible pumps aboard???...just in case......When are you going to be reading all of those books or using that dictionary????...lol....I think you need a bigger storage place, where you can offload some of that ballast. All the best you two...Keep that blue side down and your powder dry.

so sorry for our delayed response, we are back on the boat now, after traveling to Nebraska for Teri's sister-in-laws funeral; just watching Helene as she is thinking about coming ashore. We were just discussing JB Weld and having it on hand! You're a mind reader! We don't have a portable submersible pump but will look into that for next year for sure. Our books, oh my goodness, the absolute HORROR of downsizing our books, these were tough calls to make when leaving our DC apartment. The dictionary has significant family strings that are heart-attached so the "big boy" has to stay onboard, but we are definitely thinking about weight distribution for our stern. Great tips friend. "Blue side down"...LOVE that!! We may pirate that from you! Thanks for following our journey!!

Hi Miss Teri! Howdy Jim! That intro!! Just cracking me up! Debby, at least around here, had been hyped up a bit. Yes, a bad storm, but the bark was much worse than the bite. Walking on submerged piers with electrical units,..going with Ace here, that's not a good plan at all. Howdy Y'all!! Great episode, preparing for offshore!! I saw a mention of Ozcorp, two old people living on a boat...lmao. But actually, there is an Ozcorp construction company, 'fine builders' as they are called, out of Baltimore, Md. The 5200 that Ace was spreading, is that an adhesive or a sealer? IDK, maybe it's both. I have never seen it in my line of work. Going offshore...do you have a specific or favorite destination y'all are sailing to or just heading out and take it as it comes? How long can ya go off grid comfortably? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm sure you know by now that I am quite inquisitive and always eager to learn. Thank you for the kind words on the last episode, I appreciate it. I enjoy watching the operations and learning the skills. Hope this found you both well. Catch you next time!
@onboardwiththeosborns
@onboardwiththeosborns 2 месяца назад
Ace calls 5200 an adhesive, but when we looked it up the product says "adhesive sealant", so I think you're right, it's both! Going offshore: our goal is to leave this September and run down the east coast to Georgia until hurricane season is over, which is December 1st and then scoot down and over to the Bahamas until Spring. We'll then jump into the northbound Gulf Stream and plan on being back on the Chesapeake when the grandkids get out of school again next Spring. Our favorite area is the British Virgin Islands but I don't think we will make it there this first year of snowbirding. The goal is to be able to be off-grid indefinitely but right now we've only gone about two weeks off grid. We just bought two more solar panels which should give us a bit more run time. We are able to run our diesel motor to charge our batteries when we have several days of stormy/cloudy weather and for hot water, we also have propane to heat up water on the stove if needed. We have a generator on the deck in case we do have some unbearable heat or cold that we could use our onboard A/C or heating units. We have yet to test our reverse osmosis water maker, we prefer to be offshore to run it so that will get tested this autumn. Thanks again for following!

Hey Yall! Very cool, Ace! A little intense a time or two, but nicely done. Are those type of clamps you used mainly a marine application? Meaning the pipe clamp with the bolt through ends that you added the black rubber gasket to. I can't recall ever seeing them in the hardware stores, but then I wasn't really looking for them either. They would come in very handy at times in my line. Also, as to your solar, do you use one certain brand or is it just what's available when you need it? I am quite new to powering a boat, or well anything with it. But I am learning. I've just begun a van project, converting it into an rv of sorts. I'll be using some solar there as my first endeavor. Hope this finds you both well. Looking forward to the next!!
@onboardwiththeosborns
@onboardwiththeosborns 3 месяца назад
I'm not sure if I can attach a copy of the pic of clamps that Ace gave me to send to you. I'm not seeing an option to attach a picture. If not I will see if I can PM you the info. The two solar panels were left onboard by the previous owners, they are only 100 watts each so not a TON of power but so far they have worked well for us. No manuals were left on the boat for them, so we don't have much info (sorry). Van life eh? Exciting!! A sailing channel that used to be van life people are "Gone with the Wynns", I believe they installed solar in their van. It would be in their earlier episodes. Good luck!

Hey Jim! Hey Teri! I noticed Ace used an adhesive from a caulking gun on the first slip joint connection into the tank, what was it? I do commercial and residential, building and grounds maintenance and was curious as I've never used a caulking type glue on plumbing. Hey friend! The product Ace was using was Loctite Power Grip, it was on the boat when we bought her. Hey Guys! Wow...Ace I don't know how you were able to get in that tiny spot! You look to be a pretty stout man. I was amazed to be honest, but I suppose that's the essence of 'Boat Yoga'! Are you required to tank all your waste when you are at sea or can you dispose of certain wastes? I'm sure when tied into a dock or slip you have to tank it all, and I would assume while at a mooring also. One more question, do you utilize a water maker or use containers..or maybe both?
@onboardwiththeosborns
@onboardwiththeosborns 6 месяцев назад
Ace does stretching exercises and works out every morning, he has always been really good about taking care of his health. Great questions! Different countries have different discharge laws, I'm not sure about different coastal states but it's our understanding you need to be at LEAST 3 miles offshore before pumping waste overboard. Yes, in a slip or on a mooring ball, all waste is tanked. The state of Maryland has free pump out stations, and a mobile unit that will come to your boat during the summer. Amazing!! We currently have a water maker but it is still pickled (winterized) and will not be functioning until we are out in open water. Right now we use marina water, with water hoses to fill our tanks. We use a charcoal filter as the water is going into the tanks (port - 55 gal, starboard - 125 gal) and then we use a Zero filter system on the water as it comes from the tanks out of our taps below. It's quite a journey, working on one's self, I'm SO blessed to have a partner walking with me. Part 3 of our standing rigging project will be coming soon!

Hey y'all! Now that was very interesting and also looked like a butt load of work as well(get Ace his favorite cold one!). I am really looking forward to watching this whole process of changing out the standing rigging! Something I've never seen before and the excitement for y'all must be off the charts! Anyway, thanks for part one, eagerly awaiting more!

Rattan can be bought through ebay and amazon in the same style you have now, and it's fairly inexpensive. Hope that helps.

GREAT question! We just found out we need to put a chip in our dog to take her to the Bahamas, we haven't quite wrapped our heads around that one yet, still discussing. For right now we are looking at maybe the state of Georgia, USA? Savannah sounds very cool!
