I self build camper vans for family adventures. This channel is a vlog and documentary of our van builds and adventures as well as how to guides. If you like my content please like and subscribe. I welcome all feedback and if there's something you want to see feel free to ask.
Looks great, light electrics look easy enough? Is that two core flexible cable? Where are you pulling power from? I’m currently toying with pulling all my power from an Anker power station
@@robbiebaillie1049 thanks. Yeah they’re easy enough to wire in parallel so you if one fails you can identify it. Power is from our leisure battery, checkout out our electrical system video
Thank you for the video. Is it a safe environment? We are going there in October with my dog and I want to make sure it will be safe to leave here in the van, thank you
@@pugscaniche7866 Yes it’s safe. Theres barriers on the exit and although the carpark is open its floodlight and there are buildings near by and people around during the day. Worth checking to see if dogs are allowed in the park or there’s kennels. Disney does and Europa park allows dogs in with water bowls dotted about.
Hi We saw the impressive XP-Ultra short you posted! Are you interested in doing more content with our products? We're looking forward to doing some sponsorship!
Thanks. I’ve got another vid to shoot going into more detail about the install as a few people have asked. I’m also looking to add some more lights to the rear 👌
@@khaledahmed5754 Lovely, it was an 8spd auto though felt a little underpowered given its weight fully loaded. Have since bought and converted a Crafter 👌
@@khaledahmed5754 I definitely recommended renting a van before buying / building one. But the Ocean vs GC 600 is very different and will be dependent on your personal needs. If you’ve got kids I’d go with the GC600 for the space and ease whilst travelling - it has a lot more luxuries like fixed beds, shower, toilet etc no worrying about a poptop if it’s windy. If you want to be able to explore cities or find smaller parkups and it’s just 2 of you the Ocean is a good choice. Note with the GC600 the fuel, crossing and tolls will be a bit more too due to the size 👌
Hi buddy amazing install there noce and clean. At this point now and going victron. Did you have a wiring diagram for the victron multiplus and what size circuit breaker on the shore power in and Ac out consumer unit for the sockets in the van. Thanks in advance
@@leelendon1482 Thanks. Currently out in the Pyrenees for the last 3 weeks, been totally off grid and not had the battery drop below 70%. I don’t have a wiring diagram but did consult a lot with Chris BspkSolar. Cable wise I used 90mm2 for the MP including the chassis earth. 2.5mm2 triple arctic core for the AC cables. Re: Circuit breakers I’m pretty sure it’s a 30a on the inbound and then a 25a on the consumer unit with a C10 and C6 breaker. Like I say I consulted a lot with Chris and my cable supplier to ensure it was all specced safely. I’d recommend contacting him to discuss, spec and source the components 👌
Amazing reply my friend. Thank you for the info and will contact him for sure. Have a safe trip in the mountains and drive safe . Victron all the way by the sound of it . 😂
@@VanFamilyAdventures ok mate, must have been youtube. Ill try sort another link. Ive done the awning, its on and looks great. The Fan is on route and hopefully the weekend job. Ive been looking at site hookup with automatic changeover, ie all sockets go 230v when 230v hookup connected and revert back to 12v battery when the 230v is disconnected. Oh and solar going to be the same as yours, I've got the unistrut ready to go on.
@@davidr8424 Nice work. Personally whilst we have a EHU point we hardly use it with the solar and DC-DC charging. We prefer to be more off grid though. You on insta?
Good day. I would like to inquire about the possibility of installing the ChatGPT application on this device. Please advise if this is feasible and provide any necessary instructions or prerequisites. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Hey, I'm just catching up on your videos. I've watched your awning install which I'm going to copy. I have the same van as you. I use the van daily and I went with the MWB because it's still usable around town and carparks (sticks out a bit lol). Other than McDonald's drive through and a couple of carpark height restrictions it's been great. I've subscribed, your videos are well presented, clear and your great on camera so 👍 up from me.
@@VanFamilyAdventures I just made my order with Adele at PA using your discount code. So I'll be taking notes from your video when I install at the weekend.
@@davidr8424 ru-vid.comm0NEkhuVw8M?si=VC6ZgdZbe-g--tpK This is for the drivers side but it’s the same process… though there’s a bigger gap of metal at the top vs the bottom and make sure you don’t block the drain holes in the glass if you’re adding a sliding window
I heard you mention Sikaflex for bedding the fan on. I learnt to my cost a few years ago that although Sikaflex (the semi rigid bonding sealer) is great stuff it can part company from the roof, even if you use Sikaflex primer. I now use the non-setting mastics which the caravan builders use and it permanently sticks like poo to a blanket.
@@isaminecockers I have heard similar though it depends on the variant you use. Sika 522 is perfect for the job and with the clamping of the screws through the roof it creates a permanent seal. The adaptor has little ridges to grip the sealant and create the seal.
@@davestechandtrek Yes. The Thule Omnistor 5200 is wall mounted and comes with the necessary brackets to fix through the fibreglass of the roof on the GC600. I wouldn’t know how to access behind the panels but I’m sure there’s a way.
Love this video series, will hopefully get my own build started in the next month or two and this has been a great guide and help. Thanks for uploading!!
@@VanFamilyAdventures like the 12v supply in the engine bay, super handy. You could add a midi fuse in and remove the lazer spade fuse totally. Just a thought 👍🏻
Loving the Van build. I've a swb transporter and I'm looking to move up to a mwb crafter or sprinter. It's just me our dog and the wife. Using it for Mtb trips and weekend camping, usually on a site. Have you any advice on what to look for, spec or faults? Do I go slightly lower spec and upgrade things like you have yourself. Or bite the bullet and try and get the best my budget allows, which then cuts into the conversion. Cheers JTB
@@JtB72 Nice. It’s a big upgrade in terms of space. I’d aim for around 140bhp, trendline and if you can business pack as the base van as it gives you most of the features. I found the biggest challenge was finding a van that wasn’t beaten up or had error codes. The only thing I’ve really upgraded on the base van is reverse camera and headlights. Not many come from factory with the LED headlights and the reverse camera is a relatively easy mod. The short answer is get the best base van for your budget. It’s the foundations of the build so service history and equipment are key but some things can be added later as I mentioned. The conversion can take time - we’ve still got some jobs to do but they’re more cosmetic tweaks rather than actual conversion. Enjoy the build 🤙
@@johnhunter6303 It’s a bit of a faff! Got a generic seatbelt from eBay, removed the covers, drilled a hole and it slots above the standard cassette in the seat and up through the hole at the top. So the two seat belts overlap but it’s solid.
Unsure. The car has long been sold so I can check. The only thing I can remember is I think the other side has a double seat. So it may not be possible if there’s no mounting points (unless you’re good with a drill and welding?)
Is it possible to get the measurements for the bracket, I can't find anyone who will deliver this to Finland, but I working a machine shop so I could make it if someone could just take a few measurementa for me@@VanFamilyAdventures
So it seems August windows are no more. So many cowboys out there making a quick buck and then disappear before their shoddy work catches up with them.
Yep. Has occurred to me that the 10yr guarantee is work Jack now 🤪 But to be fair the roof is still there and still very much the same condition as the day it was installed
@@Macro-Mark Empirical do to same camera for the 2019 model and it’s even easier to install as no adding additional module and taking apart the screen 👍
