More sweet JLA action mate, Adam Strange is always a winner to me and never a villain, it's gotta be a frame job, probably by that Kanjar-Ro, he's a wrong un and no mistake!! Best of luck on your travels mate
Hey Erik. Another great overview in another great run of our beloved JLA. I’m a big fan of #129 also ( except they killed Red Tornado.. AGAIN! lol ) The more you show #133 the more I like it ( and another one.. and another one.. and ANOTHER one .. Man , I thought I had the sickness bad 😂) That JLA/JSA team up remains a favorite for obvious reasons .. Martin Pasko doesn’t get near enough credit for the DC stuff he wrote! All those great EC covers and capping it off with Neal Adams .. This one has it all my friend .. Outstanding vid brother !😊
Poor Reddie...lol. Don't worry Shannon, we know he came back at the end of #145. Yea, the duplicate copy sickness runs deep with my beloved #133. My guess is though, my six copies pale in comparision to the number of copies you have of Kamandi #18. 😁 I am with you, I loved the JLA/JSA team ups. That was a highlight for sure each year. Ernie Chan/Chua was a work horse for DC during the mid 70s. Thanks for watching Shannon.
I don't know what it was, but the heads of the superheroes at the top always grabbed me as a kid. By the way, the drawing of Wonder Woman's face at the top always looked like Earth 2 Wonder Woman
I always liked that as well when they had the heroes along the top of the comic and the DC logo in the middle of the comic. It takes me right back to 1976.
Ah! Here's where I started getting some JLAs. However, I stopped after the first eight. Great covers drew me in, but, even at 12 years old, those stories by Elliot S! Maggin and Cary Bates would turn out hokey in the end. I was spending so many quarters on Marvel books that I dropped DC all together. It's a shame. Now I wish I had a time machine to go back and get some DC titles from this era.
I always thought Gerry Conway was a better writer for the JLA than Bates or Maggin. And, I believe he proved that when he became the regular writer later on after Steve Engelhardt left.
What a bizarre way of having someone re-apply for membership to the Justice League, stand behind this curtain while people on the other side talk about you! Nice to see that Tempo book and I've always thought that Robin of Earth 2s Robin\Batman crossover outfit was fantastic!
You are SO right... it was an awesome time to be a kid that loved comics! The giant JLA and Legion books were just so cool!! I always saved the best for last when reading the week's purchases, and these JLA books were always last!
Hey Erik .. Another great showcase of the Bronze Age JLA. Although I dearly love the 20 cent and 100 page era , during this time period I became a bonafide Justice League and DC fanatic. All those great stories art and especially the covers really hit the mark. Chan//Grell & Giordano made you want to lay down your hard earned quarter 😊 It really is hard to pick a favorite . I really enjoyed the few times they did the “ Justice League Casebook “ tales and of course my first JLA/JSA crossover.. And that #127 cover by Giordano really pops. If you keep this up I’m gonna have to pull out all my JLA boxes and read through the whole series 😱 lol Thanks again for sharing brother !
If and I say if I had to pick a favorite .25 cent, it would be #122. Just something about that cover really appeals to me. And, it is a "Justice League Casebook" store to boot. Going through these brings back memories of that first AOK you gave me. I believe a couple more of these issues are from you but are not marked. I have a .30 cent cover video in the works and that is when I became a JLA fanatic. I might do that one tomorrow since I am off. 😁 Thanks for watching Shannon.
Thank you! The .30 cent covers as well was when I really started buying comics and that video is coming up soon. #133 was the first comic I ever bought as a kid with my own money and it has a special place in my heart.
Hey Erik. I guess if you’re gonna showcase a short run then this is “ kinda” ok.. maybe “acceptable” territory..😂😂😂 Yeah, you know how I feel about these, right? Lol LOTS of goodies crammed into these 10 issues.. 2 JLA/JSA team-ups, PS joins, Red Tornado dies, comes back, joins, EM joins, Hawkman quits .. and on and on lol Love all of these but especially 103 and 107-108 . I enjoy 103 because of the Rutland Vermont parade story ( that also runs through Thor 207 and Amazing Adventures 16 , and referenced again in your afformentioned and beloved JLA 145 ) And of course the first appearance of the Freedom Fighters as a team even if not in name quite yet in 107/108 . Thanks for being back more precious memories my friend! 😊
I thought you might like this one Shannon. 😁 I forgot the Rutland Vermont story ran through other comics. This was a good video to do. Ten great comics and lots of good writing by Len Wein. Thanks for watching Shannon.
I have this run, it's been a while since I read it though. Hey Harry, I think our cat Poppy now has very reduced vision bless her. I'm not sure about his costume!
Great comics mate, I am collecting 100 to the end of this run then I will start to read them all, it'll be a while yet but I'm looking forward to it. A cool show n tell of the comics, thanks. Shaggy Man is my spirit animal!
@@erikk.5202 I guess I will find out when I eventually come to read them, I am guessing it's the Detroit era with the less than heavy hitters of the DC universe.
@thegreyman Yes. I never bought then. To me, the Justice League was supposed to be the best superheroes of the DC universe (Superman, Batman, Flash, GL) along with a strong supporting cast.
Oops... sorry Rod, if you happen to watch this video. Hey, he is older than me. 😂 That Tempo book you mentioned, I have as well. An interesting thing, though, is the cover of the Tempo book is the same cover as JLA #102, but the stories inside were from different issues. I think they were reprints from #117 - #119.
Nice run, I have the crossover ones as I made a point of trying to pick all the JSA issues up, I should pick that Shaggy Man one up at some point as well and yes the Freedom Fighters went to Earth X during the All Star Squadron run.
Entertaining video! This is my JLA sweet spot! #100 was the first comic I ever bought with the intention to buy the next issue... loved the combo of Wein, Dillin and Giordano! My subscription began with 109.... so many memories tied up in this short run. Your copies look great! I sold so many comics many years ago, but no one wanted my JLA books so I still have my childhood originals! Thanks again!
This is a great era indeed for the JLA. My sweet spot started with my first Justice League pickup, issue #133 and I absolutely loved the Giants, #139 - #157, that I mentioned in the video. I think it is great you have your childhood copies. Wish I did.
@@erikk.5202thanks for your prayers bro means allot 🥰🙏 was just thinking of ya bro and this scripture always pops into my mind 🥰🙏 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NLT 🥰
Every single issue i've ever seen of issue #2,the purple of the hostess ad has bled through to the white cover of the comic.Yours don't look like that happened though.
That happened often on some issues with the hostess ad bleeding through. I looked again at #2, and you are right. The purple of the Hostess ad did not bleeding through on that nice, white cover.
Hey Erik. A wonderful overview of another of our beloved DC short run series! I think #7 is the first one I picked up as a kid and then later on I had to hunt down the issues I didn’t have. Love these post apocalyptic themed books! Great writer and artist teams in this but the Conway/Garcia-Lopez/ Wood trio is my favorite. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t there an article in AWODCC ( maybe #12 🤔 ) where they tried to tie this, Kamandi, Atomic Knights and the New Gods all together? Another fantastic vid brother.. Keep em coming! 😊
Yes, you are right. It was issue #12 of AWODCC. And, I agree, the team of Conway/Garcia-Lopez/Wood was a great team on this title. This definitely was a really cool series.
I am low key getting this run together, it may take me a while as I am in no hurry. I think I only have 2 or 3 right now. There one where it looks like he's catching a falling Big Ben bell tower is cool. I will be tagging you in a future video probably as I'm using your compare two comic cover art format somewhat. Please do not sic your lawyers on me for infringement!
Hahaha, I won't, Grey. This short series spotlight is a take-off on Shannon's (Solid4stbend) Series of the Week, and he hasn't sought his lawyers on me yet.😂
They are all great covers mate, I'd not seen those Blitzkrieg books before they look interesting, was that a short run? Show them all in a future video if you got em mate. I might give the nod to number 2 of Kull as the action on the cover is just off the charts. Cool stuff as always
Sorry Grey that I did not respond sooner. I do not get notifications on comments. Yes, Blitzkrieg ran five or six issues. All Joe Kubert covers. And, I do like Kull #2 a lot. I could go either way on which cover was better for Kull.
I’m so glad you showcased this Erik. I have the last few issues and forgot to get the rest. Now it is on my want list. The Post-Apocalyptic stuff has always intrigued me. Thanks for sharing.👍
Very tough choices! I agree that the Kamandi #1 is a slam dunk, but the others are very tough! It's funny, I have a leaning towards the 2nd issue a lot, because I don't have any of them, and they're refreshing to see as I don't seem them very often. I wish the Joker #2 had a different character than Wally the Weeper at the bottom of the cover!
I am a big Rima fan, I had one book of hers for years, I've no clue where it even came from. I ended up collecting the run and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even got the Classics Illustrated issue of Green Mansions (I think it's called) where she 1st appeared. She predates Tarzan as a jungle character which I thought was cool. I am planning a comics on location video featuring her soon on my channel. The covers and interior art on these are fabulous.
I still need 421 of these lot, very nice covers for sure and in much better nick than my copies haha. Thanks for the show n tell, I just got done reading vol 1 and 2 of Supergirl, they are decent enough reads too
Supergirl has always been my favorite female hero. Yea, these stories were not classics, but they were fun reads. I am halfway done with the first Supergirl series. Of course, #1 is on that's list. The last convention I went to, I looked for it but didn't find any in the condition I wanted.
Hey Erik. Wow.. You are really knocking it out of the park with this series of vids. What wonderful comics and covers . Makes me want to pull all my copies out and display them lol Believe it or not , we agreed on every pick ! ( kinda lol ) Love all those books for pretty much all the reasons you mentioned . Blitzkrieg is a great series ( it’s KUBERT for God’s sake ! ) and another one from those great house ads, Just like Joker #1 . And even though my favorite of the two is the first issue, my favorite cover of the run was #3 with the Creeper, and favorite story is #4 w/ Green Arrow and Dinah Lance guest starring . Kamandi #1? Nuff said 😁 Kull and Claw picks, ditto . The only pick that’s tough for me is the Freedom Fighters series. #2 is the first issue I got as a kid and immediately fell in love with the characters and series. Loved the Giordano cover and Pablo Marcos art inside. I found out a school chum had #1 and he agreed to sell me his rolled up and battered copy for .25 lol Again, loved the cover by Chan and story and interior art by Estrada and Royer. The truth is, I can’t pick.. I love them both equally.. I know that’s probably against the rules, but there it is. Lol Thanks for making me love these books even more buddy. 😊
Thanks for the kind words, Shannon. I have a part four to this, which I will do this weekend. I get it with the Freedom Fighters. That first comic of the series you buy has sentimental value. That said, the black cover for the first issue is great, IMO. Thought you would like seeing Kamandi in this video. Kamandi #1 is a must-have in anyone's collection. Kull was my toughest pick. That would be a tie if I said ties were allowed, but I always want to make a pick. Hey, tomorrow Kull #2 might be my choice. Pulling out all of these books makes me want to read them again. 😁 Thanks for watching my friend.
@@erikk.5202 And great point about the Earth 2 Joker and Willy the Weeper from JLA#136.. Only true Bronze Age JLA geeks like ourselves would know that ! 😁
Yea, you will pay for a nice, high grade copy, but what a fun series. If you ever collect it, look for one in Fine/Very Fine or Very Fine Minus. VF and better can be pricey.
Hey Erik. Great series and covers all the way through.. I might get a little long winded with this so bear with me lol Black Goliath- Issue #1 hands down Omac- this is a tough one.. issue #2 holds a special place because it’s the first one I got as a kid, and it ties in to the 1991 4 issue prestige series that John Byrne did ( in my top 5 of favorite comic stories) but issue #1 has the edge cover-wise Sandman- issue #1 Pretty easy there ( Love that series! 😊) Secrets of Haunted House- issue #1 SSOSV- Another tough one .. I love the Ernie Chan cover and purple background, but #2 has my vote for several reasons.. It was the first issue I got as a kid, part of the Bi-Centennial run, It reintroduced one of my favorites, Captain Comet, and I just love Dick Giordano. Shadow- Another toughy.. although #2 is my favorite story of the run, I’ll give a slight edge to #1 because it’s so iconic and because I first saw it in a house ad lol Oh my but these are FUN! Thanks for sharing brother !
Hey Shannon! Love reading your comments. You do know that most of these titles I showed are because you got me into collecting them after watching your videos...lol. SSOSV for sure. Plus, you gifted me the entire OMAC run, which I really really enjoyed. The Shadow as well. Issue #1 of The Shadow is a great cover, and on a different day, it might be my first choice. Thank you for supporting my little channel, my friend. I have a part three in the works
You have to go with issue 1 on OMAC, just what is going on on that cover, OMAC's just throwing a woman who's having a bath for no reason but he's thrown her that hard the force has messed her body up? Of course you read that issue and that's not what's going on but still. You could argue as well that apart from The Shadow all the issue 2 covers her are more action orientated than the issue 1's.
Black Goliath #1 is my pick (and I'm a big fan of his. Ocac #2 is my Favorite of those 2 SANDMAN #1 Is my favorite of those 2 Secrets of haunted house I go with #1 (and like you I didn't do alot of horror as a kid.) Secret society of Super-villains #2 Mostly the Action and the Beautiful Bicentennial on the top. (One of my side projects is to collect all the Bicentennial books.) The Shadow #1 is my favorite just love the Shadow. Fantastic stuff sir love the series.
Thank you for the kind words. I do like SSOSV #2, and I love the DC Comics Salutes the Bicentennial, but something about that purple cover on issue #1 really draws me in. How many more issues do you need of the Bicentennial run?
@comicbookcurator68 When you find your list, let me know what you are missing. I don't. I don't mind keeping my eyes open for something you might need.
This is a series I don’t know much about. Now I’ll be on the lookout in the cheap bins. I’ve never even heard of Space Voyagers. Thanks again for showing all these.👏

Why isn’t YT informing me of your vids? 😠 Well at least I can now binge watch a few weeks worth. Lovely comics you showed here. That Weird War is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing my friend.👏
What is not to like abiut that comic? Army men. Cavemen. Dinosaurs. And, as I said in the vid, a Joe Kubert cover. Oh, and it is a square bound book to boot.
I think I agree with your choices with maybe the Secret Society of Super-Villains being the hardest decision. Mostly though I liked both covers so hard to pick a favourite really. I had most of those I think but not the Sandman ones and now I have Sandman envy!! haha
Sandman was a good series, too, Grey. For me personally, the Secret Society of Super Villains was my easiest choice. I just love the colors on that first issue.
