For the crossmember with the exhaust hole cut out, were there body mount bolts on it or are the two pads just kind of sandwiched between the floor and the top of the crossmember? As far as templates I use poster board from the dollar store
I did do break lines on Also on my Chrysler drive line for my rat rod.A couple of months ago , but i've yet to be bothered to bleed them because I have to build the cab yet 😅😂

There's about 3 really good chop videos on RU-vid..and by "good" I mean they show how to minimise the amount of patching and welding you need to do. Don't beat yourself up...remember they are called lead sleads for a reason...lots of filler!😂
A good trick I have learned from an old timer on and the years I have welding on truck frames is to soak shop rags but not to wet and cover ALL lines around your working area. It really helps out alot!!
