I bought a 2023 9.8 XTR last week. This morning it would not turn on. I plug the charger in and it turns on, 150% charge. When I turn it off I cannot turn it back on unless I plug the charger in. It also has rebooted on two different occasions when the power went from the the extender to main battery. I should have bough the Orbea. This is a lemon and it is wrong that a person can spend this kind of money and get such poor results.
Everywhere I look the strive is the fractionally better bike. Please explain….? Although canyon give you the choice between the shape shifter and the steering damper thingamy jig to deal with steering flop due to the slack trend xc.
any word on how the sl damper rides compared to the fit4? seems they went backwards with offering low compression on the fit4 lockout version compared to the open closed of the grip sl
Great review. Can't see too many people buying the lower spec given the modest price difference. What it really means is that the cheaper model is probably too expensive.
my bike scott spark 2023 team issue did pre order the flight attendant only front suspension since the scott frame wont be able to put the rear shox since its just only front flight attendant shox i can have, i assume that there will be no automatic system will happen since the brain is all in the rear shox.. what are your thoughts?
Im looking at a 160 because i race enduro. But i have a tight budget and will only be able to afford one bike. I was just wondering in the 160 was still playful and agile enough at slower speeds and on less steep trails which are tighter and twistier.
2:51 80 calculations in a blink? I laughed since I can only imagine it's talking to itself: should I open? should I close? open? semi? open? close? ... 😄😂
I’ve changed my fork to 29er grip2 best thing I’ve done to this bike now it’s a beast 😈 Hope pro5 wheel set Swapped to sram eagle xx1 shifters and mech 34” chain ring 9-52 cassette ethirteen 160 cranks Aluminum bar less vibration Raceface stem and top cap ( not that plastic garbage) Love it now ❤
I am.thinking about ordering one right now. Can't get an answer on how it would work for a large rider. I an just under 300 lbs recently lost 35 pounds from riding. I want to push some more.
Every sram guy touts sram brakes until they fail 😅 shimanos reliable, I don’t care about your namesake branding and marketing it’s all about reliability when your going downhill
Great video! Do you find this fork being rock-solid in Lock position? I tested two brand new SID 2024 and neither was close to rock-solid state when locked. The original RD was really rock-solid, but not the MkII. How is your fork? Thanks
You're looking at the previous model Spectral, which has 160/150mm of travel. The new 2024 model features a new frame and 150/140mm travel. Currently Canyon only has four Spectral CF models with the new generation frame. We're yet to see alloy or a CFR version, but perhaps those will be coming down the line. Hope that helps! [Wil]
i can't wait to get a microchip installed in my head, then i can just sit and do nothing and make the bike ride for me. data data data data data data . thank god for Ultra Romance, the bicycle industry is going the wrong way fast
Loved the Review, I have one question if you had to pick between Mondraker Foxy and The Merida One Sixty with both being the same price and both being the base-line model and it was used to ride a variety of trails of both tough technical downhill trails, flowy trails and big jump trails what would you pick?
Hi Will, my bike is canyon lux slx. 2020, can I change the group set to sram Xx sl like yours, my version is straight currently, really wanna experience new sram group set
Unfortunately not - the new SRAM Transmissions are only compatible with frames that feature UDH dropouts. The previous generation Lux from 2020 is built around Canyon's own derailleur hanger design, which means it won't accept a new SRAM Transmission derailleur. You could still run the previous AXS electronic drivetrain if you wanted though, as those derailleurs will bolt onto a regular derailleur hanger. Hope that helps explain! [Wil]
Why would we move wireless. Wired dropper is a 1 time install cable vs u have to recharge battery every time it died. Battery is an expensive option and it’s a one more thing to worry about on the trail.
Is this frame much more stiffer than the Trek´s Procaliber? I had a procaliber that got stolen, wich i found extremely confortable and now i´m thinking of buying one of this Scalpel, but i don´t want to loose too much confort. Thank you
I have returned the 23 9.8 because of gear slipping issues transitioning from downhill to uphill. Ended up having to get off the bike to try and engage the gear and my last track ride, the chain broke on a 4 month old bike and had to walk it back to the car. I expected so much more with the price point. Trek dealer has been good and offered to fix it for the second time, but considering my options and I don't want to be in and out of the shop all of the time. This is a great review. So down to earth and no BS. Thanks Flow!
I'm having chain ring issues with my 9.7 gen 2 also. On my 3rd ride the chain just fell off the front chainring, Trek replaced the chainring with the updated one, and it happened again 200 miles later but the chain ring was completely loose. Kind of over it. I'm with you don't want to be in and out of the shop all the time. Did Trek take it back after 4 mos or did you have to sell it?
Hello, very good review, I loved it. I'm about to buy this bike, I have a new FOX 34 STEPCAST KASHIMA fork, with a 3-position remote control. What do you think about replacing the original rockshox brain with my FOX 34? Would it be a good option? Would I lose benefits? The idea is to make a positive change, otherwise I prefer to leave it original from the factory. Greetings from Argentina.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the review! I think a Fox 34 Step-Cast fork would be a great upgrade for the Epic World Cup. I am personally not a fan of the Brain fork, as I find it isn't particularly smooth on rougher trails. You may have seen some of the Specialized Factory XC racers have moved away from the Brain fork this year, so I think that says a lot too! The Fox 34 SC will offer much better traction, comfort and control, and with a remote lockout you will have the option to firm it up when you need it. Hope that helps! [Wil]
@@FlowMountainBikeRU-vid Thank you very much for your answer, one question I have is that the FOX 34 has a total length of 510mm and the ROCKSHOX SID 516mm, how does that 6mm difference influence the behavior of the bicycles?
Given that its from Bikesonline, for the price I'd be comparing it to the Marin Alpine Trail E2 and Polygon Collosus N8E (which are better specced and cheaper). Whats your opinion?
Personally I'd be looking at the Marin Alpine Trail E2 - I dig the mullet setup and the overall build kit is solid, though some folks are a bit turned off by the Shimano EP8 motor. That's a big part of the appeal with the Superior eXF with its Bosch system and clean user interface. That said, Marin has just launched a new Alpine Trail e-MTB that features the Bosch system. It's a great-looking bike, though it is quite heavy at a claimed 27.5kg! [Wil]
It's currently on sale for pre order for a smidge under $8K aud. However for the same price I'd rather have the 2025 Marin Alpine Trail E1, bosch cx, mullet, better spec and geo, like size specific stack and top tube lengths. Only downside is it weighs a whopping 27.5kgs but does come with cush core installed
Agreed Sandy! That Marin came out the same day we published our review on the Superior eXF. The geo and spec looks killer, but the 27.5kg weight is less appealing - hopefully we can get one in to test! [Wil]
