Big brands like Canyon should offer a frame only option and offer build kit options

Build kit options are coming at the end of 2024.
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube 8 месяцев назад
Agreed - we've been asking for more customisation on build kits for a long time, not just from Canyon but also other direct-to-consumer brands. Would be awesome to see the ability to pick the tyres you want, bar width, dropper post etc. The option to buy a frame-only would be sweet too! [Wil]

The aestetic of this bike with the SID stuff is second to none, I talk about it all the time at work. This is literally exactly how I would build this bike up right now

Can't believe how well the new SID matches the paint job on that frame - quite the happy accident! [Wil]

flow mountain bike is the single most reliable source of real-world info about XC bikes. this is exactly how I would spec the Canyon Lux WC (I have to admit that I did not think about 110 mm front because I forgot about that option from Rock Shox and I already have a 34 mm SC). And I had exactly the same doubts about the upgrades. however is surprisingly heavy. I have the old Spark RC SL and the frame is 1,8 kg. The whole bike (34 Factory SC - I can confirm that is an entirely new bike after the upgrade from the 32 - , the old XX1, Reverb AXS, XTR brakes, DT Swiss XRC 1200 25mm) is 10,15 with pedals. I am looking for a new bike and this Canyon, specced like that, was the last option, now I am deflated. The reasons to upgrade were the STA (is very slack on the Spark, 73,8, I really feel that) and the option for two bottles. It does not seem to worth the money I can't divorce from the light and snappy approach (I am not a serious racer, but it is fun). Especially that the second bottle is always a 600 ml one. For the same reasons I have eliminated the 120 mm XC (that is how I got to the Lux WC). And I suspect the Spark is a better descender also. Maybe keep upgrading the spark and buy a Lux Trail for gnarlier trails. Thanx a lot for reading my mind:).

Great review and really interesting to see the difference in setup on the same chassis. I have the new Lux too and put my Factory 34's on, I didn't think it would but made a huge difference.

Great video! Do you find this fork being rock-solid in Lock position? I tested two brand new SID 2024 and neither was close to rock-solid state when locked. The original RD was really rock-solid, but not the MkII. How is your fork? Thanks

Do you maybe know if I can use RS twist remote for my fox suspension push to unlock. I use AXS dropper control on left downside on handlebar and therefore I have to put fox remote on right upside on handlebar and this is ugly and less practical.

Nice Will, excellent review. Would you still choose the Lux Trail over the WC if you were primarily focused on racing?
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and for the feedback mate! For mostly racing, I'd pick the Lux World Cup. It's lighter, more efficient, it climbs faster and the steering is more responsive than the Lux Trail. And I really like how the WC rides with the 110mm fork and dropper post. In fact, if Canyon did offer a spec like the one I've built here, I'd choose that over the Lux Trail. [Wil]

Hi Wil. Two questions: Where did U get SID 35mm with 110mm travel. There are only 120mm available on the market. And which version of SidLuxe do you have - liniear or progressive?
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube 6 месяцев назад
We originally got a 120mm travel SID, which I then bought a 110mm air shaft for. They're not overly expensive and it's pretty easy to swap air springs to change the travel. The SIDLuxe shock uses the Solo Air (Linear) air can. [Wil]

S works epic World Cup: add one up dropper v3 90mm, with Ti bolts, the lightest dropper; change rear tires to s works renegade T5/T7; set up tubeless; swap out the brain fork for the new Sid SL ultimate; swap out power meter crank for non power meter crank. And you get a bike weighing around *9.3kg* without pedals. And it will go like a rocket ship. ps: starting medium weight 9.42kg with tubes, source: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ay9L1nBmzsU.htmlsi=OSJk43jbLl1s98qQ&t=10

Hi Will, my bike is canyon lux slx. 2020, can I change the group set to sram Xx sl like yours, my version is straight currently, really wanna experience new sram group set
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube 3 месяца назад
Unfortunately not - the new SRAM Transmissions are only compatible with frames that feature UDH dropouts. The previous generation Lux from 2020 is built around Canyon's own derailleur hanger design, which means it won't accept a new SRAM Transmission derailleur. You could still run the previous AXS electronic drivetrain if you wanted though, as those derailleurs will bolt onto a regular derailleur hanger. Hope that helps explain! [Wil]

@Flow Mountain Bikes.... Every test I have read of yours seems to indicate that you are looking for a down country bike, rather then an XC bike. Also, the fact that you are wearing a baggy shirt and shorts with little care for aerodynamic drag tells me you aren't riding the bike that fast.
@benwildman6164
@benwildman6164 8 месяцев назад
😂 what’s your point exactly cowboy? Do you wear an aero cowboy hat?
@coldforgedcowboy
@coldforgedcowboy 8 месяцев назад
@benwildman6164 ... My point is that he is wasting his time riding a race bike if he is going to piss away watts to the wind wearing baggy clothes. This is like mounting a roof rack on a Porsche 911.
@benwildman6164
@benwildman6164 8 месяцев назад
@@coldforgedcowboy but he’s not racing it, he’s testing it. There is no doubt baggy clothes increase aerodynamic drag but I can’t recall reading any MTB review where aerodynamic efficiency is mentioned. You also can’t assume someone isn’t riding “that fast” based on the clothes they are wearing. Any Increase in aerodynamic drag brought about by wearing baggies instead of lycra on a MTB is dwarfed by the riders skill level .

@FlowMountainBikeYouTube
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube 8 месяцев назад
Those are the specific grips that are supplied with the TwistLoc Ultimate remote. There's two different versions; smooth and textured. I've got the textured grips on the Canyon. I've found them to be pretty comfy for the most part, but they're a little too squishy for my liking. My next option is to try out a set of Ergon GXR grips (my personal favourite), with the left side cut down to work with the TwistLoc remote. [Wil]

you weigh frame with seatpost clamp but without axle? Rockshox SID, all new. How many times does RS need to re-design their stuff before they get it right, every other year? why does chassis need to be redesigned. what does more oil flow have to do with anything. You say the sixluxe is a big improvement over the DPS, but you review the DPS and don't say it is a bad shock. This is a standard mtb amnesiac review. Everything new is a huge improvement, works wonderful, until next year when the new new stuff is a huge improvement over the already wonderful but now terrible last years model. Now you'll bring up the things you hated about last year's model, but only after we've already bought it. This year's totally redesigned chassis is 6.67% stiffer while being 4.444% lighter because wow we learned how to run a cnc machine this year. just imagine how good we'll be next year when we replace that old noodle with a totally redesigned chassis. Complaining about Zipp hubs is very amnesiac. Zipp has been failing at hubs since I bought a shiny new set of 440 tubulars back in 1998. 25+ years of nothing but failures. Yet every review, so surprised at the poor quality hubs. But you keep buying them. and in this case, you keep recommending them. XX1 SL cassette is made of easier to machine materials and wears out faster, but is more expensive. Transmission is the typical mtb industry pr scam blitz that consumers love.
