Long time watcher of many RU-vidrs, but I'm finally jumping the gap and uploading my own.
I love history and most of my videos will be covering it. I'm starting with the many onscreen incarnations of the Six Wives of Henry VIII, and once they're done, I'll see where we'll go from there.
I'm also an aspiring writer. If you're interested in action stories with supernatural elements, check out my Inkitt profile where I post my stories. I'm currently working on a YA action urban fantasy/sci-fi series with a Bi protagonist. The first story 'The Red Slayer' is my love letter to series like 'Doctor Who' and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', with its sequel 'The Elements' Champion' is my love letter to 'Tomb Raider'.

I would love to have a story where Mary is the older sister and is carefree about her history as a royal mistress, carefree enough to advise Anne how to manage Henry and support her until she meets Stanford and rethinks her entire views on relationships.

I made it to the end of this video, hurray! My favorite Halloween movie is Disney's "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad," but the first Halloween special I saw growing up was "A Disney Halloween Treat" from the late 80s. I am glad you've started this new series of "Typecast Tudors," and I have always had a really soft spot for Mary Boleyn. I'm glad she survived everything and got to marry a man who actually loved her, and she loved him back. Though it wasn't without struggles, she got to survive. I hope she and the family she created with William Stafford got to experience some relative peace together. As for other typecast Tudors, I'm still really excited for Thomas Cromwell to show up! I know he'll be covered when you reach 10k, but still. I'm glad to see you've now reached at least 7k, so we're closer, and that's really exciting. 😅😁

Amazing video again Alice, and ps I can't wait for you to do Robert Dudley. Fun fact: The actor Joseph Fiennes who plays Robert Dudley in Elizabeth 1998 movie, also plays as William Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love the same year, wow he plays in two movies related to the Elizabethan Tudor era. Lastly I can't wait for you to do Phantom of the Opera, and another fun fact: One of my favourite rockstar Paul Stanley aka The Starchild from the band KISS, was plays the Phantom within the Toronto production from May 25th to August 1st 1999, then he plays the Phantom again from September 30th to Halloween day (October 31st) the same year and I hope you can cover him along with the other actors who play the part of the Phantom of the Opera. He really capture that role and has a special connection within it too. Yes I'm an KISS army and yes Paul Stanley aka The Starchild is my favourite member of KISS.

My money is on Charity Wakefield’s Mary. She’s spunky and sensuous. Probably better educated than most ladies in waiting but not into academics. She’s the free spirited type, centuries ahead of her time. AHHH, Now that I think of it. Mary is the Prince Harry in the Tudor age. She serves as a useful foil for Anne. It’s probably already well established in her family that Anne is the golden child. Who knows why parents pick them. In every instance, the smear of Mary’s reputation is used to promote or coverup for Anne. What is Anne up to at the French court, aren’t there rumors? Who cares, if you want a good time, send a Paige for Mary and then smear her reputation to take the focus off Anne. Henry takes a fancy to Mary? Wrong girl. Anne is supposed to advance the family fortunes. Anne is preggers and can’t have sex? Let’s get Mary to be a surrogate. Mary finally has enough, gets therapy and meets a man who values her? I’m betting the family knew and approved of stafford. But let’s make a big stink about it while Anne is in a vulnerable position and not able to keep it together. Mary and William get disgusted and ride off to California, er, away from court. She lives out her life in happy obscurity in Rochford having finally found someone who she respects and loves. So, it all works out for her in the end. She probably felt sorry for her siblings but more relieved for herself. Her family screwed her over and karma happened. Oh well. Call her The Good Boleyn Girl.

I can safely say I liked Anne Boleyn before it was cool. 😎I stumbled across Anne of the Thousand Days on Bravo one night in 1999, and was hooked. After that, I devoured all the novels on Anne I could find--my favorites being Evelyn Anthony's Anne Boleyn, Mollie Hardwick's Blood Royal, and Norah Lofts' The Concubine. One thing I notice about so many of these (which, of course, continued with The Other Boleyn Girl and post-TOBG works) is that Mary's main function in nearly every novel about Anne was to be whatever Anne is NOT. If Anne's portrayed as scheming, devious, and overly ambitious, Mary is gentle, honest, and content with a simple life; if Anne's portrayed as cautious and prudent, Mary is reckless, overly emotional, or carelessly promiscuous. This even extends into their hair/eye coloring (brunette Anne, blonde Mary), even though, as you said, there's no real record of Mary's hair color.

Yay for you doing Phantom Of The Opera! Some future Halloween, I'd love to see you cover Dracula. Especially the questions of "why can't we have a latter-day adaptation/retelling where Dracula's attacks on Lucy and Mina are treated as the assaults they are and not as something either of them wanted or embraced?", "why do so many writers of sequels/adaptations/retellings treat poor old Jonathan Harker, a man who faced serious trauma, escaped Castle Dracula in a weakened state on his lonesome, showed no hesitation in going back to face Dracula despite knowing what Dracula was capable of, and swore that if they didn't defeat Dracula, he'd ask to be turned so he and Mina could still be together, as a wimp or a jerk?" and "why are so many adaptations bound and determined to give Mina true love with the man who, for all intents and purposes, r*ped her in canon?"

I'd love to see you cover Anne's father Thomas Boleyn, and the accuracy, or lack thereof, of the Pimp Daddy Boleyn characterization (which seems to show up at its worst in The Other Boleyn Girl, The Tudors, and Robin Maxwell's novel Mademoiselle Boleyn). That's become the default characterization for him...I kind of prefer deviations from that. In Norah Lofts' novel The Concubine, published in 1965 and back in print in the wake of The Other Boleyn Girl, Thomas is actually very peeved at the idea that the general public thinks that his social advancement came because of Mary's involvement with the king, when he's actually gotten where he is under his own steam.

Mary Boleyn is my ancestress as well, and I'm actually quite proud to be her descendant. I do agree that she's often typecast as being silly, stupid, naive, and easy, but I like to think she was more than that. She was smart enough to know when it was time to go when Henry no longer wanted her and didn't make a nuisance of herself (unlike Anne), and she chose to be with someone she loved and treated her well instead of just being with someone wealthy and influential at court. Ultimately, those things saved her life. Plus, I also like to think that if she could have lived to see everything that her vast descendants have accomplished, she'd be quite proud.

Great video! I've been looking forward to a proper Mary Boleyn video. The first book I read on her was 'The other Boleyn Girl'. Would you ever consider reviewing that book alone? There's a LOT to be discussed on that. From the line about bedding only thirteen-year-old virgins to that graphic miscarriage scene with the monstrous, deformed foetus. I don't like the book now, as an adult, but I couldn't stop reading it as a teenager and it acted as an introduction to the Tudors to a lot of people. Curious to see your take on just the book.

With the Callous treatment she received as a disposable mistress to Henry VIII and the Abominable treatment her sister got, I don't blame Mary Boleyn at all for wanting to distance herself from the Tudor Court.

Excellent video! I am an American descendant of Mary Boleyn, through Catherine Carey's daughter, Anne Knollys. Mary could be seen as "winning" in the end - not only by keeping her head, but she is also the ancestral matriarch of not only the British royal family (through her grand daughter Lettice) but also of some of the forefathers of the United States of America. Her grand daughter Anne (Lettice's younger sister) married Thomas West, Baron De la Warr & their sons, Thomas, John, Francis & Nathaniel, were among the founders of the 1st American colony of Virginia. The US state of Delaware is named in honor of Thomas West (the son), who was the first governor of Virginia (John & Francis were also governors & members of the House of Burgess. I am descended from John).

What frustrates me about this series is the lack of love for these historical figures or bothering to go research other people with tropes Hollywood loves to market: You want an actual "warrior girl" or "girl power" historical story, look up Joan of Arc, Mary Ludwig Hays, Deborah Sampson, Hua Mulan, "Buffalo Calf Road Woman", The Trung Sisters, etc. Also, if you want historical gay characters (which Edward 6th wasn't) to make a movie/series about, go look up people like Richard Puller von Hohenburg, Harvey Milk, Oscar Wilde, Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, Maureen Colquhon, etc. Why can't we get movies about these people instead of randomly turning these historical characters into tropes that they were documented not to be?!

A good video until you started to get political at the end. Before you start ranting on about 14 years of mismanagement of Nottingham by the tories, let's look at the great labour run nottingham council triumphs shall we? Nottingham council shut the castle so It could be renovated with government funding. The labour council lost £29 million in Icelandic banks. £71 million lost In the failed broadmarsh re-billed. £38 million lost in the ill fated Robin Hood Energy. £18 million ring fenced that should have been spent on its housing stock, but was unlawfully spent elsewhere. Nottingham city council has received claims worth £68 million from those it owes money to. These are just a few examples of (total of £224) Nottingham labour councils mis spending, None of which was, or, are the tories fault. You need to stick to making videos and stop talking about things you obviously know nothing about.
