We are American Bulldog breeders, enthusiasts and historians. Our dogs consist of Scott, Painter, Don Matthews, Joshua Kennels, Hines and a small touch of Johnson bloodlines. It is our goal to produce dogs that behave the way these dogs were intended, as farm utility dogs. We understand not everyone is looking for a working dog so our dogs can fit into active family homes as pets. We have utilized our dogs as all around farm dogs working with all types of animals from chickens to hogs,we have used them as catch dogs on the farm as well as Livestock Guardian Dogs. We are located in Irving College,TN roughly 60 miles north of Chattanooga nestled in the hollers and hills of the Cumberland Plateau mountain range. I have been following you for a long time now and your dogs are great. Your "problem" I think is the way you want your dogs to look and how much time you want to spend creating your perfect farm dog. You want less prey drive but outcrossing to a SBT ( even though yours is very chill from what ive seen) isnt an outcross I would do. It is still a terrier. There are better breeds to outcross and get want you want but those look nothing like a Bulldog. You are focussing to much on breeding the perfect farm dog but I think if you focus more on actually training your current dogs you will have much more succes in getting that allround farm dog. The problem if you go this way its going to take a lot of time and dedication.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels I can speak on Labs because I've had a few They will definitely protect your family. They will do whatever you train them for. Mentioned Boarder collie because of what you have on your farm and you seem to want a smaller dog than you got ?
@jimcostantino6244 - yea I get that, border collies are great herders but they don’t live with the sheep because they’ll always want to move them. I want a Bulldog, Bulldogs have a different demeanor about them than those breeds you mentioned. I have a buddy of mine that has a Lab and it went through and killed every single one of his chickens. Dogs these days in general aren’t bred for work. They’re just bred to be bred. LGD breeders nowadays are telling buyers the dogs aren’t ready to work until 2 years old. That wasn’t the case 25 years ago. My dogs aren’t too far from what I want. We’re on verge of a breakthrough so I’m hoping this cross gives me that. If not I’ll try something else.
I think it is cool you are breeding for a dog that you want. Trying to breed your bulldogs to be like the old farm handy bulldogs is awesome. So many people are elitist on how they think dogs should be, saying you are breeding water downed bulldogs. If anything you have gotten the experience that the average Ambulldog is not what you want so you are gonna go with something that does work and has what you want. And the sbt cross venture can fail but any breeding can fail but i think it is cool you have put in the effort to come to this conclusion. Excited to see how the dogs come out down the pipe line.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels Thanks Daniel. I'm Glad Y'all are Safe. You do Good work and Love God and Dogs. You're a Good Dogman. Hope the folks at the NKC are Good and Staying Safe too. Thanks Man 🙏
Stover line ,Williamson, and Sammy Bailey need to be name more. All them other breeders is hyped. Johnson mixed and breed for money and Scott as well. I’m sorry but both of y’all or right. I’ve heard you say something about the inconsistency when you visited his yard yourself in another video or it kind of threw you off or something of that magnitude
Had a sbt for a little over 17 years. He passed last summer. by far one of the best dogs I have ever owned or been around. I currently have a 2-year-old alapaha bulldog. I was literally thinking today how amazing a cross between the two breeds would be
Form follows function. I’ll go whichever route the dogs take me. I’m only concerned with the behavior of the dogs 1st and foremost. My goal is to have dogs with good bone density I don’t want fragile dogs. SBT have scissor bites and American Bulldogs have underbites, reverse scissor bites and we’ve produced some with scissor bites so I only expect the bites to improve but anything that I have now is fine which is 1/4 inch underbite to scissor bite.
@prideofthesouthlandkennels if your concerned about behavior then why change a good thing? Couldn't you breed a small AB to another small AB and then skip the Staff?
@@Hammer1978 - the American Bulldog in general does not behave the way I’m looking for. I have produced some good dogs that work for me but now I’m at a dead end with what I have and have available to breed to. Everything that has worked for me is off the same sire. I need an outcross and I’m not willing to pay $1500 for another American Bulldog that may potentially have health issues like I’ve ran into, be extremely prey driven like I’ve ran into or be 95-105lbs like I’ve ran into. I could not find all three of those main things from one American Bulldog or one American Bulldog breeder. At most I get two of the three. So my question to you is why would I go to another American Bulldog when I have seen more times than not that it’s not what I’m looking for when I have a SBT that checks all three boxes? The American Bulldog today is not pure. Bruce Huffmaster at Think about it Farms is working diligently on improving the percentages through DNA testing. When I tested my dogs and seen the results I decided purity didn’t matter because it’s already not there and I started looking at dogs as types instead of breeds. Meaning I see Bulldogs as Bulldogs I see Hounds as Hounds. The SBT may have terrier in it but it behaves the way I’d like my Bulldogs to behave and it’s smaller which is what I want. No disrespect at all by me saying this because I don’t believe your question is being malicious and it’s just out of curiosity but when me and my family are the ones dealing with the dogs on a daily basis that are not working for us then it’s our decision to make these types of decisions. If it’s not working then it’s crazy to continue trying to force it to work. I parted ways with way more dogs than ever actually worked for me. No sense in going back down the road I just traveled down. It’s time to try a different route. This route may not work either but I can at-least say I have a group of dogs currently that works so that’s what I’m running with. 👍🏻🙏🏻
@prideofthesouthlandkennels that makes the most sense. I knew there was a much deeper reason behind what your doing then the video showed. I whole heartily agree with your direction. I love the idea since I have a corgi female and she's a great size for us. I still want one of your dogs, hopefully Bully more than SBT
I been following you for a few years now and had some good conversations. They way i see it your here doing you thing for you and not for clout and doing it for your dogs not your pockets! If people have a problem with what you do f**k em i say. Keep dogging and keeping it real bruv
God bless you Sir trust your instincts. Got lost at a state park last weekend was trying to go a few miles ended up being close to 9 miles. Had Charles with me I was surprised he handled it as well as he did
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels He broke out in hives one night after a walk never seen that with him wondering if you’ve ever seen that it was odd. Went like 2 maybe 3 miles no problem. Came home in the garage started smoking and he was covered in hives. Gave him Benadryl and he passed out woke up and was fine.
