Questions, comments, business inquiries, or to just say Hi… email me jeffshvacadventures@gmail.com
Hey Jeff that one big unit carrier that had an open pressure switch might be worth replacing that pressure switch with the one blueon recommends and converting to r 458 a the one that's not running replace for sure and that one old carrier smaller unit I think could be converted to 458a also if it's not leaking badly without any mods. Or blueon r 458a but I know for sure that one big carrier Comercial unit defentaly replace that's, for sure. But shows how good those old units were to last This long remember those big units are very expensive to replace that's why conversion is often better
Hey Jeff I've noticed a lot of those focus pros have been taking crap lately in maryland especially on the west coast of the bay. we have had a lot of solar flares and CMEs they're absolutely destroying these thermostats so I'm not surprised I've replaced a lot of them with the new t4s or t5s
If the ignitor is coming on but doesn’t ignite then, one make sure you have gas and all the turn off valves are turned on. When the ignitor comes on, put your hand on the gas valve and see if you can feel it click just before the ignitor goes out. If yes, then you could have a faulty gas valve. But you would need to check it with a meter to be sure.
Plumber here.... not much HVAC work. We do NEW CONSTRUCTION install & very little service work. On the FEW service calls we go to, we HATE the "while you're here...can you look at blah, blah,blah... it's been leaking for 2 years." Every single time... a small issue can turn into a days worth of work when a) We don't do service b) we have 14 NEW HOMES we're trying to get plumbed for 4 different general contractors!!
If you’re servicing your own furnace you should open up the fire box and clean it out with wire brush and vacuum. You should set the electors with a tool that gives you proper adjustment ( Amazon ) .
the hvac person who came to my house for a leaking drain pan said they need to disconnect/cut the copper tubes and re charge the freon to change the drain pan. Is he just padding the bill? want's $1200 in NJ I have a high efficiancy Rheem furnace that looks similar to the one you worked on in the video. I liked and subscribed. That was a great video.
Some systems you do need to disconnect the coil which requires removing Freon, evacuation, etc. seems like a fair bill if all that’s needed. Thanks for the support.
That coil is caked probably with drywall dust. Someone ran the unit before the apartment was finished. If there are 30 units, they are all probably the same. On new home installs, after start up, we leave the thermostat and condenser wires off until final inspection. I would rather send a junior tech back for a half hour than provide unnecessary warranty calls.
I was wondering does anybody use Japanese or American capacitors for the inverter boards. I fix computers big huge computers and that includes cooling. I have noticed that if there is Rubycon,Nichicon or Cornell Dubilier they would run and run no issues . But if they were Chinese brand well lets say they failed always it seems. I know years ago China stole a incomplete formula for electrolytic caps from japan and well it turned into a disaster for them.
I, have been following your videos . I have an issue trying sell my home during first hvac repair guy found no serious issue. Fast forward two weeks later check we hear water dripping inside bottom drain pan. We looked only one side had condensation a rust spot on corner metal on one side and at the bottom a rust stain opposite side. The water leaking coming out the front and dripping into the drain pan. How can we stop if on a budget we have a buyer who wants no inspection. Should I think about fixing anyway?
Hello Jeff can you tell me if I need to replace the piston on the OXbox air handler when I'm installing it for the first time. It says replace it from the factory piston. Just want to be sure
The piston should be matched with what outdoor unit you have. The equipment should come with a chart that tells you what piston to use with what outdoor unit
This is an honest HVAC man. How do I know? 1) He didn't try to upsell the owner of an 11 year old unit to a brand new unit or an entire new system inside and out; and 2) He actually put the refrigerant on a scale while filling the system. 3) He gave you the truth about recovering and reusing refrigerant as long as it doesn't leave the property. (alot of HVAC guys will won't tell you that and will try to get you to buy new refrigerant and then put the same old refrigerant back in. we actually had this happened.) where I live, a lot of HVAC guys won't do a comprehensive leak check and will immediately tell you that you need a new evaporator coil, heat pump, or entire new system and they don't put the refrigerant on a scale while filling and will just quote you an absurb amount for the freon. Its very difficult to find honest HVAC people. Wish I had this guy in my area.
I appreciate your kind words and support! But you’re spot on, a lot of HVAC service companies are just trying to drive their sales numbers up and sell sell sell. Nothing wrong with fixing what you got. 🤙
@@JeffsHVACAdventures BINGO. Do you know any HONEST HVAC guys in Georgia? It's incredibly frustrating trying to find people who not only do good work but who actually have integrity and don't try to rip people off.
I like that you use the proper tools. The use of the proper size hydraulic wrenches and NOT an adjustable wrench, sets you way above the bubba's out there!
Every fall, inspect your flue piping. Remove and clean the flame sensor, if high efficiency, check hoses and condensate lines and discharge pipes/ pump. Change the return filters and look for lose and leaking duct connections. Other than a component failure, you should have a service call free winter.
I had a new 3 ton Bosch 20 SEER installed less than a month ago. We lost power 2 days ago around 10:30 PM. I noticed the next morning the evaporator fan was not running and the suction line on the condensing unit outside was frosted over. The condensing fan operating very slow. Called my guy and he found the 3 amp fuse on the evap board blown along with the board burned in that area. During the installation he had installed a RSH-VRM60A surge protector. I was able to toggle through the digital readout and see the voltage had spiked to 275 vac at one point. This protection is ONLY on the out side condensing unit and not on the evap unit under house. My question is should the evap unit have this same type of protection?
Don't know if it's been mentioned but I block the dead fan with cardboard preventing windmilling to help cooling if I have to leave to get a new CFM. Unless it's really hot unit will cool until I get back.
Thats the problem with ductless. If it goes down and needs parts, they are proprietary and you must wait until the parts come from China. It’s never on your truck unless you only service that brand.
@@JeffsHVACAdventures Thats what I like about you, Jeff. You give honest assessments of the system you are working on. Ted Cook doesn’t like criticism unless you say Trane Good. Goodman Bad. There is nothing wrong with Goodman except they dont give dealers incentives, like truck wraps, like Trane does.
