What’s your preferred time to go fishing in the bay? I’ve always heard either 1-2 hours before high tide or no matter what tide just go during sunrise and sunset
@ethankirkpatrick6039 I usually go early morning no matter what the tide is because in this area the wind kicks up to 12+ mph at around 1pm on most days. I've also caught stripers at high and low tide so I can't explain it! 🤙🏼tight lines
What part of the bay is this? I dont need any specific spots, i am over by Emeryville/Berkely and cant quite figure where to go for good clean access to the water
I just got into surf fishing. I’ve been chasing trout in the sierras for 20 years. I figured I’ll be applying my trout techniques in the ocean. Double drop shot, Texas rig swimbaits, jerkbaits and Carolina. I have the okuma rockaway 10’ medium with a Penn pursuit 4000, 20lb braid to 20lb fluro. Planning to make that my double drop shot rig. I want to get a rockaway medium light with 15lb braid for all my jerkbaits and swimbaits. Subbed 🤙🏾.
Wow! That's a fine morning of fishing and catching. Do you fish the north bay? I haven't had much luck in the south bay'. Seems like there's lots of stripers being caught in the surf along the coast.
@@gc_in_dc I used to fish Millbrae Ave (and 4 th Avenue SM) with my Dad in the late '50's when it was cattail lined shoreline and no hotels. Do you ever fish Coyote Point or Francis Beach?
@@gc_in_dc I frequently fish both places but living in the east bay it's 1-2 hours of driving each way. Coyote is pleasant if not windy and good if fish are "there"!! It's better in a spot where one needs to wade which I don't do at 80 years old.
you sooo right about ppl keeping secrets..its like for god sake you going for PORCINI MUSHROOMS where the PORCINI actually RE-GROW into the same spot... I know that beach pretty good, I caught 2 stripers and 3 large smelt... STRIPERS with Caroline rig and BERK 2in worm ...yup.
@@gc_in_dcman I love montara. I just got into surf fishing this summer. We go to montara twice a year just to hang out and grab lunch from gherkins. Planning on going there next weekend. Tight lines.
Yeah I dont get why people get mad about fishing spots getting exposed, like 95% of the time I go fishing to the spots no one is there fishing. People will go fishing at different time/days when they can. Just enjoy and be thankful you get to fish that day because damn after 5 days of working to pay bills, I just want to be out and relax. At the beach there will always be fishermens and we have alot of beach parks, a whole stretch in the coastline so dont tell me your gonna cry about me burning the spot just because of some photo/video I posted. People think the coastline is a secret spot lmao
That's the new short butt/handle Okuma Rockaway SP 8'6" rod? Doe sit cast the LC far enough? What were you throwing 1 1/3 OZ that's like 7"? Do you lose action with hook changes?
This is the 10' Rockaway with a longer butt. I can probably throw the LC like 40 yards or so, give or take. I actually talk about it in a video that i'll be posting soon! Yeh the FIsherman's Life lure is 1.35oz and 6" or so. The LC still gets good action with a little bigger/stronger hook!
Bro where did you find the 10ft Rockaway SP? I think I been to every tackleshop and they are sold out and backordered. They are very hard to get at the moment!
I got it on Amazon a couple months ago before everyone was trying to get it! I originally wanted to get the hawaiian custom but was late to that game and got this instead. Love the SP so far!
Good choice! Really light rod for a 10ft. I like fishing with light tackle, it feels good with a fish on. I already purchased a new reel for the SP, I just dont have the rod lol. Cant wait to get my hands on that!
@@fishwithme9245I think it will only break if it gets stepped on or mishandling the rod because my 9’6 celilo has small guides, its held up for 4 years and its still strong. Caught many stripers on it, biggest is 38”. My goto rod if the swells are not too crazy
They do keep you busy for sure! I think it's a 2 1/2" grub. The link should be in the description below. I've never used the Hawaiian custom so I can't compare. I've been wanting to get one but probably won't now because I really like the SP!
@@ronmodafferi8202 I'm not really sure because i just opened it and have only used the one bait. But it seems pretty durable and don't think it will melt like some other baits and the color doesn't seem like it will blend with others. Easy to get the hook thru tho!
I like it a lot! I couldn't find a hawaiian custom at the time so I got the Rockaway. I recently got the Rockaway SP but haven't had a chance to get out to the surf to try it out. Maybe this weekend!
I got there at about 8am or so. It was incoming tide and high tide was about 6.5ft or so. I usually walk down and back and fish the holes along the way! 🤙
Yeh man, to me it's just not right! Yo, did you get my DM on IG? Sent you a msg about a website called Temu that has a lot of inexpensive fishing gear. They had that same headlamp that you featured awhile back from HiFishGear.
