@@shakeyaguarete first, there’s no such thing as a 417 and if you’d have been paying attention, I specifically say “the first Bond handgun to appear On Screen.” So you sir are the one who’s Wrong
Ok, if you go back to the written Bond books the first gun ever mentioned Bond having isn't even the .25 ACP Beretta 418. It's a Colt Police Positive with a cut down "sawed off" barrel. The truth is, early in his writings, Ian Fleming was not all that knowledgeable about small arms.
I have watched this video MANY times over the years...the strap is phenomenal and while I have the 2 piece I would love the single ply....I thought that I was close recently but hoping the seller gets more in so that I can try again. This is the first time that I paid attention to the watch...I bought a 6538 homage recently. Almost got the one that you have here.
I like the overall design of the P99-and it's certainly superior to the PPK -but the dealbreaker for me is that the P99’s grip feels like a slippery bar of soap. 🤷♂️ There are a number of guns that Bond uses in various films that simply have more to offer. I love the Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm.
Can you just do the review?? Good god….no one gives a shit where you’re at, what the humidity is, how much you’re sweating, where you work or how many kids you have. What does any of that have to do with the watch? I’ll give you a clue to the answer…..NOT A DAMNED THING! I’ll find another review.. I can’t take another second of this. STOP doing review videos….you’re not good at them.
I am going to have three PPK's in my collection. The stainless steel for summer with a grey suit . The black one for winter with a darker suit being black or dark blue. The last one will be the 100 year commemerative .
I'm sure the information presented in this video will be valuable to some of your viewers. I would point out for people who aren't aware, Omega time pieces, with few exceptions tend to depreciate significantly to more attainable price points as time wears on. Even screen accurate Omega time pieces worn in the Brosnan and Craig era of Bond films suffer significant value loss in many cases. So if prospective buyers really want an Omega timepiece like the ones used in the Brosnan and Craig era of Bond, they can be had without being quite so cost prohibitive as the No Time To Die limited edition timepieces. Saving for some of these pieces is no more difficult than what someone might set as a goal to buy a nice guitar. Even if your viewers aren't in the market to buy a used Omega in great condition with service records, the good news for many Bond fans is that Bond has worn a number of models of watches over the years that are certainly attainable. For the more budget-constrained buyer, brands like Seiko, Casio, and Hamilton are great options to get a timepiece used by our most beloved hero/spy if said fans can appreciate the era of Roger Moore. Ps. I do appreciate your channel as well as number of other channels here on RU-vid dedicated to James Bond. Thank you for what you do! I wish you much success!
Ian Fleming was issued in WWII , a Colt 1908, .25 ACP. He kept it after the war and took it with him yearly to Jamaica at his home there. The Colt is listed in his estate. Since he was issued a .25 he thought it was just fine and for a secret agent it can be. He liked the exotic look of Beretta .25 on the printed page. I suspect he read a dossier or something on an enemy agent carrying a Beretta .25 , and it stuck in his brain and he gave it to Bond his creation, based on him and all the commando spy types he had met.
The P99 is probably my preferred of Bond's two sidearms. Unpopular opinion, I know, but this was what he used for most of the late 1990s - late 2000s era of films, and its futuristic turn-of-the-millennium design complimented Brosnan and Craig's Bonds perfectly in their later and first adventures respectively. I guess they went back to the PPK in Quantum of Solace to cement that Bond has begun, but it's a shame that it was ditched to appease die-hards. Bond also carried it as his main sidearm in the excellent EA run of games: Agent Under Fire, NightFire PC, Everything or Nothing and GoldenEye: Rogue Agent having it be Bond and GoldenEye's starting weapon of choice and NightFire Console having you start off with the PPK and making the P99 an unlockable weapon for getting Gold on the mission "Night Shift". Of course, that era's swansong was From Russia With Love, so it was replaced with the PPK, but the P99 still remains my preferred of Bond's guns. It just compliments him perfectly.
In the deleted scene of View To A Kill of Bond being released by the French police at the station, his personal effects incl a money clip (similar to yours).
All 👍. Apart from Bond Experience, and the odd one from Commando Bond, some of the other channels have been a bit quiet since NTTD too. *Suggestion:* What pistol Bond should be carrying in the modern times - I've leant to the PPQ Navy as no 1 choice. In fact one that should have been brought in when he first met Q in Skyfall. When I saw the promotional stills for Spectre, I thought it was one of the new Walthers, but no 😮💨
Unfortunately the seller referenced no longer sells them. The current (2024) best option is the RAF Bond strap from CNS Watch Bands but it’s not available in 16mm. 18mm is the smallest they sell.
I have always been blown away as to why, outside of nostalgia, Craig’s Bond ever went back to the PPK. It just makes zero internal logic sense to me. You have Bond using a single stack, .32 ACP pistol, when every single villain he comes up against are all using the latest in modern submachine guns, assault rifles and yes, even modern pistols. I get that his PPK was upgraded in Skyfall to a 9mm, but still, a small single stack 9mm using a design from 1929 just feels so odd in modern times. The P99 was even replaced by the PPQ and just the name alone would have been perfect product placement for both Bond and Walther to team up together. I’m praying for a scene in the next Bond film where, Bond trades in his PPK for a Walther PDP and truly modernize his load out yet again.

Bond's fist pistol was a Beretta 418, not an M1934. While I enjoyed the video, in the novels it is clear that he carried a stripped down 418 at .25 caliber. And later, he moved up to a Walther PPK at .32 acp not .380. Even in the movie, the Armorer says "...it's chambered in 7.65" ;-)
I think you missed the very first thing I said in the video, “..the very first firearm to appear in Bond’s hands on film…” Literally what we see, not what is said or implied. I appreciate the other compliments!
What an amazing watch!!! I'm a big fan of James Bond and wanted to have some similar watches, so I buyed the Cronos L6024, an hommage of the Tudor bb54 with 37 mm, is the closest to Connery's Rolex. Regards !
The reason NATO straps were designed as a single piece, was so that if one of the spring bars failed, the watch would hold on. I'd like to think if Bond knew of it as an option, he'd have gone for that. Or maybe Bond figured it out and had Q invent it, which the military than began to mass produce. In any case, I'm happy with my blushark bond strap NATO that seems remarkably sturdy, for less than $20 with sales and discounts.
Awesome review. One of the best leverlocks. I got mines at Grindworx six years ago it's still in great shape. I have the same one that you have dagger edge wood handles. The one seen in the movie is a single edge file work. Also has a very strong spring.
That’s not a Walther PPK. A Walther PPK has the original spur and not that ugly extended uncomfortable “beaver tail”. A real Walther PPK has polished blued steel and runs like its on roller bearings.
