An interesting and passionate guy. The thing about earlier Brooklins (I started collecting in 1992/3 also) is that they were i) a little more affordable, ii) more solidly built and iii) produced to a consistently high standard relative to the competition. Less detailed maybe, but the paintwork, glazing, tyres, separately fitted parts etc. of 30+ year-old Brooklins have stood the test of time better than any of the others . . . you can see this on ebay. Darren is right about the welcome return of Lansdowne, one of those Avenger Tigers will definitely be heading my way.
Thank you very much, John! The interview with Ron is very exciting. Hope, the Hall of Fame will develop and we'll be able to find many interesting on this website. Thanks forhobbydb. This source is very useful. I suggest to add brief stories for all model manufacturers, sometimes there is a lack of information. Thanks for your work, you are wonderful interviewer.
Are you kidding me?? $350 For a car where neither door, nor hood, nor trunk can open?? (If they can, why didn't you open them for us+?), Also is this a cheap RESIN lightweight model and nnot a proper, substantial, heavy DIE CAST model?
I'm sorry you don't like the model. It's beautiful in hand. But, this is where the market is right now. You have inexpensive, full featured diecasts that can be found in big box stores and are made in the ten of thousands. There are a lot of folks that enjoy collecting those at $25-$100 or so. You also have plastic models that may or may not have opening features but lack some detail and finish that are usually offered in toy departments for low prices. Then you have high-detail, static models like this one. These are made in very limited numbers, usually a few hundred or so. They will sell somewhere between $150 and $300. There are aslo high-detail, handcrafted diecasts made in very limited numbers that sell for almost twice the high-end resin models (think CMC, BBR). There's something for everyone's collecting focus and budget.
I have been hoping to see this interview for awhile. I got into a bit of a kerfuffle with Darren on Facebook early on. My fault for innocently trying to explain something I really didn’t understand. lol anyway, it is really great to see the man behind the work. Didn’t realize he had been a part of Brooklin for that long!
Thank you for this video, John! Bugatti by EMC looks amazing! This model has a museum quality which brought a fame to this manufacturer. EMC was established in Kiev by Vladimir Pivtorak in 1986.The company started to make high quality resin copies of the Soviet cars. In 1990s the new chapter began after Vladimir and his team got the orders from German's stores of Budig and Boyer. Then the time of American cars came. The model range of EMC is really very huge. I'm very glad to see the models of this company on your channel
I had no idea they have been around that long. I missed the chance to buy their Swan Car when it was released. A dealer friend had one and I hesitated. When I called to get it, it was gone.
Good Morning John from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. That is one absolutely gorgeous model car. 1/18 scale also makes this an extremely large model. This would a great model for Cadillac collectors or for large model collectors It looks similar to the "dealers" size models that were given to purchasers of brand new cars at dealers around this same period. John I have seen the dealers models similar to this size and must say this one appears to be better quality than the dealers one. Thanks for your video and have a great day Austin
Thanks! It sounds like you've seen some of what we would call "promos." They were 1/24 or 1/25 scale, still large but not quite as large as these at 1/18. There is a large community of folks that collect promos. You're correct, they weren't quite as detailed but they are a lot of fun.
One of the things I love most about these interviews, John, is that you put faces to all these names I have seen around for years. It really does humanize and contextualize “the hobby”.
She's a beauty John...and your videos are very much appreciated. Question if I may...exploring a consignment shop, I found two 1948 Buick Sedanets for sale. One was marked USA Motor City and the other was Design Studios. Both vehicles looked identical other than the color. Are they both one in the same company...and are they still in business ? They are in excellent condition priced together at $123. Not sure about the original boxes, I didn't ask. Thank You !
They are the same company, from Motor City USA models. USA Models were their entry level models with Design Studio usually a step up in detail and MOC bring their premium line. There was a lot of overlap. Sunday like you got a good buy!
Thank you for this video, John! I'm very glad that Brooklin has relaunched Lansdowne range. Hope, we'll see new models oc British cars in this series. Will be wonderful if Brooklin continue its subbrands like Lansdowne, RobEddie, IPV. As to the model, it looks fantastic!
Lovely model, I am just about old enough to remember the real cars still trundling around the streets. The 'face' of the Minor is quite hard to capture and the Lansdowne model does a good job. Corgi Classics got this wrong with the oversized 'goggle eyes' headlights and thick protruding 'lip' around the grille which is way too prominent. This always spoilt an otherwise acceptable and very affordable model. The simpler and even cheaper Lledo version of the Minor actually had a more convincing front end I think. Hopefully there will be a regular programme from Lansdowne going forward, wish they would release an upgraded Rob Eddie Saab 99 and Volvo Amazon.
Hello, John. These models are wonderful! I have most of them in my collection and can say that GFCC has done a great job. There are a lack of 1/43 diecast models of American cars on the market and I hope that company will expand the range in future. By the way, Aliexpress offers these models in luxury edition for 20- 30 dollars, they often make discounts. Though, good chance to purchase the items to collection.
Opening features are relatively rare in 1/43 and non-existent in white metal. I would love to know more about the models of Saratov. Do you have a link?
Это не совсем так, у моделей " Коржи Тойс" и " Динки Тойс " есть открывающиеся элементы. Я думаю вы можете в Ю Тебе найти сообщения о масштабных моделях в масштабе 1/43 города Саратова.
Hello John,Enjoyed your video, as per most models, there is basic as well as detail . These two both look magnificent and like the platform of assistance to various budgets. Cost of living is affecting many people, so this idea helps some with their budgets for their hobbies. Thanks for your video
They've done in the lower detail versions a 1955 Studebaker Speedster, 1956 LIncoln Premier 2 door ,1959 Pontiac Bonneville convertible ,a 1941 Cadillac sedan and a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. In the higher detail line , a 1953 Studebaker 2 door, a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville 2 door hardtop, 1954 and 1955 Cadillacs and the 1956 Buick 4 door Roadmaster Riviera ,Most are available in 3 or 4 color choices. Some appear to be scaled down copies of Danbury Mint 1/24 models. Very good value .
John, thank you for this video! Ford BB by Brooklin is superb! As a fan of Fords, I'm very glad that Brooklin has expended the range by ttucks. This is a new direction for company, sure it will be successful. The model looks amazing! I'm very impressed of its details!
Another great video, John! I have (28) of the MOC Hearses, Flower Cars, Limos and Ambulances. I had some contact with the late Alan Novak and his son, Corey, back in 1995 thru a local B&M diecast shop owner that knew them well. I sent him (3) of my Classic Funeral Professional Car (hardbound) books and (2) Cadillac Classics books, as well. We spoke about details of actual 1:1 professional cars and ideas that he was throwing around. For that, he sent me a 1966 Caddy Landau Coach and Flower Car in a unique one-off paint scheme at no charge. I was shocked when I received them and have cherished that set for years now. I have been in the funeral profession all my life and have owned (5) vintage coach/hearses. He also sought advice as I understood it from a funeral home owner in the L.A. area that he knew through contacts. In 2009, I spoke with Corey by phone after purchasing a few rare pieces that he/Alan were selling on that Ebay. He shared with me that there were other professional car designed molds but doubted those would ever be produced. There were some 30's Packards, probably off the MOC 37' Packard limo chassis already produced? And there were a few 40's if I remember, correctly? And flower cars that had not been produced, yet, for the already built hearses...And a few other ambulances. I still look at my MOC professional car collection time to time and think of the pieces that might have been built...but have to be pleased with the fantastic ones that Alan/Corey did design...right? They were building these before anyother diecast manufacturers even thought about such an adventure. Anyway...just a story that I have as it pertains to these little cars that we love!😉 Thanks Again! JJ
Fascinating! They certianly produced some amazing models. Jeff Lane has a few of thier masters and plans to release them in limited numbers under the "Second City" brand. He had a prototype in Chicago earlier this year.
Another winner by Brooklin, the paint is sublime. Trucks are a great choice because there are so many livery/body options that can be released over time using a small number of moulds. Corgi Classics did this successfully for many years although Brooklin is obviously in a completely different class.
Very glad to see you,John. Fantastic truck by Brooklin! It looks amazing! Good news/ that Brooklin opens new segment of market. As an avid Ford collector, I look foward thr introducing of this model. Thank you very much for your video!
Reminds me of the CMC models with this level of detail, John. Wow! I wish Figart made more traditional American muscle cars. Even vintage Ferrari’s would be cool. Ford vs. Ferrari - great movie.
I prefer the black one, but unfortunately, all the black models are out of stock! (Almost all presidential/boss/mafia limousines are black, right?😂) After watching your video, I ordered the gold one yesterday! (The silver-gray color is also not available!) This gold Caddy is too fancy! I can't wait for it to come to see if it's worth the price!
@Kuvakas Yes, I do. This gold model is nearly perfect, except for the interior of the roof. There is nothing there, just gold resin! At least Stamp should make it the same color as the seats. This gold limousine looks big, bold, flashy, and stands out. I really like it.
