Name of the Wind is my favorite book of all time! Saw it in your thumbnail and I had to click! Started a RU-vid channel because of it! I read it because it was a gift. A friend told me about it and it changed my world. I had no idea it was this “overhyped” book. It was the book that started my reading journey. And I’ll be forever grateful. It’s unlike any fantasy book out there. Intimate storytelling at its best.
No hurry man! You keep doing you! Just make sure you stay hydrated, and get some rest! Love waking up to friends videos! Great for accompanying my coffee! Much better than news.
Ahh thanks so much Matt! :) Def need to work on the hydrated part hahha been drinking too much coffee lately! Watching friends' videos in the morning is totally my go to as well, and especially lately MUCH better than the news :P
I'm so glad your music is doing so well, the long days are definitely paying off. I'm still a bit behind with Royal Assassin, my work schedule has dropped off a bit so I'm hoping to catch up in the next few days. Thank you so much for the kind words, you always give me the most wonderful shout outs 🙂
Thanks so much buddy, that’s so kind of you to say!! I’m so glad I’m not the only one behind on Hobb 😂❤ I’m loving the journey man, can’t wait to dive further in (starting with this evening!) Happy reading man!
I try not to compare the character work of other authors to Abercrombie 😂 He’s spoiled me. I’ve heard Hobb’s character work is fantastic. Congrats on all your musical endeavors!
@@Alicia-606 thanks so much Alicia! 😃I know the feeling hahaha once you read Abercrombie it's kind of hard to find your fix anywhere else!! Hobb is more cozy fantasy (with some heavy elements) rather than the grim dark world, and much more serious than Abercrombie, but the slow burn character development is a fun thing to dive into! So happy to hear you enjoyed Gerald's Game! I have that on my shelf, and hope to get to it this year (fingers crossed!)
I read and own Bazaar of bad dreams, The shining, Revival, Lisey’s story, Night Shift (I bought it mainly for reading Quitters Inc. story), IT, Everything’s Eventual, Hearts in Atlantis. Yet to buy and read The Dark Tower series, Pet Semetary, Duma key.
That’s a great collection right there! And best part is your best king reading days are ahead of you - DT and per Sematary are just incredible. If you decide to read the dark tower, the first book isn’t representative of the rest of the series, so I’d say stick it through to book 2 to see if it’s right for you!
It's so funny, you read one of my favorite books ever (House of small shadows) and one of my least favorite books (Under the dome) LOL! I like King but i hated that book so much that i still have my doubts that he even wrote it. 😂🤦♀️xx
Hahah I love that! 😂😊 it’s so great to hear the differences in our reading experiences too, I love hearing different perspectives on these books! Have you read other Neville before? I am going to give more of his books a shot!
@Shelf-Esteem yes, he's one of my favorite authors! Last days is good, one of the best endings ever! All the fiends of hell is SO good, I just finished that couple weeks ago. No one gets out alive, they're all good!😂😬📚📚
That’s so great to hear! Do you have a favorite of the ones you’ve read? This is my first foray into Follett, and I’m going to have to read all of them now haha
@@Shelf-Esteem Knightsbridge and Pillars of the Earth series are my favorite. But I love The Key to Rebecca, one of his spy novels (standalone). Listen, I tagged you last week but then I untagged you because I figured you might be too busy. But if you want me to tag you in The Counting the Days let me know.
@@TheLinguistsLibrary ooo that all sounds fantastic! I would imagine given Follett’s ability to perfectly pace his books, the keys to Rebecca would be a compelling read - thanks for the recs! And thanks so much for offering to tag me, I’d love to participate! 😊 I’m a bit behind on some videos but will get to it soon!
Excellent review Nikhil! I really need to pick up this series one day. I am a bit obsessed with World War, and in particular WW2, so this does sound very interesting.
Thanks Cliff!! ☺️ it honestly sounds like it might be right up your alley - it covers the events leading up to the war exceptionally well, though I’m not nearly as versed on the subject as you, so would be interested in hearing your more nuanced perspective
I didn't enjoy this book much like i did the first book or pillars of the earth it felt like second book syndrome i don't know if i want to read book 3 i still haven't finished the kingsbridge series ⭐⭐⭐
@@angelaholmes8888 that’s a really fair point! I think so far from what I heard book 3 is the least of the three, but I’m really enjoying it so far - I can’t wait read Pillars this year!! 😊
4:11 🤣. For me and underrated fantasy novel is The Gunslinger, I read it on deployment years ago and what stood out to me was the originality of it, felt fresh to me. I have Misery and IT on my TBR.
Haha I had to just roll with it 😆 That must have been amazing, discovering King through the Dark Tower! Have you read the rest of the series yet? Misery and IT are both life changing books imo
The Gunslinger was my very first King, in April 2016. My favourites are the wastelands and wolves of the calla. right now, I'm reading 11.22.63 and loving it so far.
That’s amazing!! Isn’t the wastelands just incredible? I love the twist in wolves as well as the tie-ins to Salems Lot - just brilliant. Cant wait to hear what you think of 11/22/63, my favorite king standalone! 😊
@@Shelf-Esteem it’s where I’m starting lol. I think starting with short stories with any author (if they have them) is always a good way to get a sample taste before gorging on their heavier work. I’m telling you though. Really enjoy the artwork over the story. Since these are more shorts they’re like campfire stories. Still enough to make you uncomfortable.
Awesome video and thank you for the kind words Nikhil! That was definitely right up there with my favorite chats on the channel. I would really love to spend more time with you, maybe a buddy read? I love the smooth way our conversation turned to music and metal at the end. 🤘I will be watching Dead Whisper very soon.
Thanks so much again for having me on Cliff!! You rock, and it’s been so great getting to know you over the years the last couple of months and during our epic chat! 😊 I would love to hang more with you, and absolutely let’s do a buddy read! Any books come to mind? I’ll think on it as well, and looking forward to more chats / reads together! I hope you enjoy Dead Whisper! Cant wait to hear what you think!
@@Shelf-Esteem It was truly an epic chat It has been wonderful to get to know you too Nikhil and I am totally up for a buddy read.😄 I can't think of anything off the top of my head but let's chat closer to spooky season!
Thanks so much Chas! 😊 I’m always back and forth about sharing that stuff as I know most people are here for the books, but I’m so glad yon enjoyed it!
Hi Vanessa, that’s awesome!! I absolutely love that book, and it doesn’t get the credit it deserves - the idea of obsession and the fine line between healthy and unhealthy is just great
That was a stacked week of reading, it makes total sense to add another chonker to the reading pile haha. I'm really looking forward to another buddy read, I think we'll have fun with this one. I really enjoy hearing you talk about your music and seeing the footage of all those musicians was really cool, it resulted in some of the creepiest music I've ever heard. I'm hoping to watch Dead Whisper on Saturday or Sunday. Thank you so much for the shout out and the kind words, it was great chatting to you and talking face to face, for our first time streaming I think we did pretty good :)
Thanks so much my friend!! 😊❤️ I’m loving Royal assassin so far, and can’t wait to chat with you about it! I so hope you enjoy Dead Whisper, and man it was such a fun playground of sounds working with the musicians! I wish I could do that on every movie hahah That live chat we did was just so much fun, and can’t wait for more!
@Shelf-Esteem I've not had chance to read much, I've been pretty busy so I'm only on page 36 but it's great so far. I loved the prologue and how it jogs the memory of forgetful folk like me but in a way that feels part of the story rather than a recap. I'd love to do more lives, I'll have to do something about my laptops potato cam though 🤣
@@DisquietandDragons-lh3zm haha I hear you! Your camera feed looked great though! I just use my phone 😅 I’m on like page 100 or so, but will be switching between edge of eternity this week so will likely be at same pace as you!
The Name of the Wind, Children of Time & Fall of Giants have all been on my physical tbr for a while now. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying them! Robin Hobb has forever been on my radar as well. I loved your Cujo chat and your chat with Cliff!
Thanks so much Alicia! It was so great seeing you on the chat yesterday! 😊 great minds read alike haha! I hope you enjoy those when you get around to them - my TBR is growing at an exponential pace at this point 😂
I read fourth wing by rebecca yarros it's good but i was surprised about the spicy scenes taming 7 by chloe Walsh unfortunately this book is my least favorite by chloe it should had been longer plus didn't like claire summer on the bluffs by sunny hostin i absolutely enjoyed this book will check the second book
@@angelaholmes8888 nice !! What a voluminous reading week! I had heard about the spicy scenes in fourth wing hahaha I haven’t read it yet though! Have you read ACOTAR yet? I’ve heard that’s a really good series in Romantacy
I love that you still have your first copy of Pet Sematary. I understand the feeling. I kept my old Signet paperback of Misery from 1998 that was not only my first King read, but I was 18, moved away and got my first apartment and rode the train a lot. This book always traveled with me and holding it reminds me of all the fun and friends I had back then. (My favorite SK book is Needful Things. What a blast to read!)
Thanks so much Johnny! Isn’t it amazing how much books can transport us back to where / who we were when we were reading it? Thanks for sharing that story - Misery is just so amazing!! Hard to make a top 10 list for King 😆 Needful Things is his most underrated, what a masterpiece!!
Awesome video Guys! Totally agree that Cujo is so much more than a rabid dog scenario! My thoughts are that bad things happen to people (good and horrible) and there is sometimes nothing you can do about it! There is more than fear explored here. Everything about this novel is bleak and depressing. Life is unfair, shit, unpredictable "random" things happen, just like King's view on life at that point in his alcohol/ drug-fueled moment of his career. I believe King is saying "shit happens", life is random and that at any time things can go very wrong, and people have no control. Just my two cents! 😄Everything in this novel is so RANDOM resulting in "tragedy." Regarding Pet Sematary, I would definitely say that a re-read as a parent, would provide you with new terrors, and would be very different to reading it as a teen. Cujo getting bitten would be a good scene.
I hadn't thought of it as a 'shit happens' story but now you've mentioned it I can definitely see it that way. It's very much a multi faceted story, there's so much packed in to a relatively short book, I honestly don't know how King does it, he's a master of his craft.
@@DisquietandDragons-lh3zm I do think think this was King at his most pessimistic self, shit happens anytime, anyplace- terrible things happen-just deal with it! John, would you like to be a guest on my channel?
So great chatting and getting to know you Matt! Thanks so much for chiming in and for checking out the other videos - looking forward to continuing the convo! :)
@@Shelf-Esteem absolutely! Do you have a top metal albums? Are you a horror gamer? Top horror games? Just video recommendations I’d vote for. I guess they’re not "booktube" lol.
@@BlueEyedMatt42 oh I love those ideas though!! Maybe even top rock albums or songs inspired by books! (Rime of the ancient mariner by Iron Maiden and battle of evermore by led zepp comes to mind haha)
Thanks so much for subscribing Vanessa! It was great seeing you in the chat, and thanks so much for watching! Always great to connect with a fellow Stephen King fan :) If you're looking for good cheap ways to get more SK novels, I highly recommend Thriftbooks.com!
I didnt mean to come off as a debbie downer when i said cujo was my least favorite book. Im just not super huge on the "tragedy" aspect. But you guus made good points that i didn't think off.
@@mattpaul5441 hey buddy it’s no worries at all! I really appreciate your opinion - that’s the great part of reading these books, even if we think differently it’s great to discuss them and get different and equally valid viewpoints! 😊
@@Shelf-Esteem I just thought it was one long what if. And I was well paced and written. I was never bored. But I did eye roll toward the end. But tou guys are right it was everyone's fears coming to life
My friend thank you so much for being on my channel! It was so great chatting with you about this masterpiece of a book, and I’m so looking forward to many more buddy reads to come! ❤️🙏🏽
