Yes, high and sometimes very high (30,000 ft +), and sometimes sideways, 1,100 km.

Excellent description of Tephigrams Phil (last time you explained something to me we were in Karachi and it was the Joule Thomson effect!)

What a great video for a Condor novice like me and budding real Glider Pilot. I used to fly Condor with a monitor but have since upgraded to a VR headset which makes distance and height judgment a whole lot easier. I now understand MC Theory thanks to your instruction. I try to fly as realistically as possible and would say that the big negative with simulator flying is the lack of fear! Thank you very much for posting this video and making it available to the wider public.

Just bought a gaming PC for my 70 year old glider pilot father. He is a veteran of Portmoak and Kirknewton 661. Downloaded Condor 2 successfully the other day. Really hoping to make contact with other racers so he can get involved. Great video by the way.

Actually i feel a bit disturbed by 'there is no vario lag'. It might be that it is only the accelleration of the glider that is lagging, but why do better pilots feel it before it shows on the vario? (watch G Dale's talk at an australian 2 part webinar ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sjt87U8qYBA.html ) I guess it is because varios are designed to smooth out the spikes, so that they are better readable. In the Condor2 settings you can choose your vario and evario constant from 1 to 3 second in 0.5 sec steps. A human can feel that the glider is being pushed before inertia is overcome and it actually starts to move. The vario only registers once the glider moves. Thanks for the tip about instrument settings. I didn't know that and will investigate.

@@katefbyrne ...I added a link to the condor2 help page. Thanks for the Video, maybe i can motivate a few club members to try it some day as a group. Ok - i was only thinking about the physics and acceleration of the glider that we feel. But when think of a more holistic "feel" we also recognise the change in angle of attack by slight rotation of the aircraft. Also often you can hear how the airflow is changing.

Where to go for system requirements and hardware recommendations?
@michaelderflinger5002
@michaelderflinger5002 3 года назад
Find the System requirements here: www.condorsoaring.com/manual_en/#windows-pc-specification For the standard map they are pretty low. But there are maps made by the community with high resolution images these often use a lot of disk space and also might need more RAM and/or a better graphics card. The largest map i found is WestGermany3. In its highest resolution it need 205GB of disk space. Here you can find a world-map for downloadable maps: www.condor.club/sceneriesmap/241/ and here you can find a ftp server from the german virtual aeroclub: ftp.dvaec.de/condor2/original_maps/

Regarding Bruce's question at the end, about block speeds (1:15:15) - I should have said that they aren't arbitrary speeds, but are based on McCready settings for the glider you're flying. Jake Brattle and Finn Sleigh explained this very well in their "Level Up In Lockdown" webinar last year - see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qnl7nnkShe4.html for where they talk about looking at the polar and making a note of McCready 0, 2 and 4 speeds. The speeds I was talking about were roughly MC 1, 2 and 4 for the ballasted Duo, because MC 0 is for emergencies only - it assumes *no* lift ahead. That's not a good day to go cross country. :)

@Adrian Bennett Hi Adrian - thanks for watching! You can choose with the glide computer - by default it tells you how high (or not) you'll be above the next TP, but I was showing the +1 and +2 options that let you ask about your height difference for the next but one or next but two TPs. Because this was a triangle, +2 on the first leg gave me the height needed for the whole task. When I went to +1 on the second leg it was telling me whether I was on glide to complete the task. Hope that makes sense! The same functionality is available in "real" glide computers like XCSoar and Oudie.

Nice video. I guess a little more course deviation would have resulted in a faster track time. ... during task setting you can set a minimum arrival altitude on the last TP. The Condor PDA will show you the correct glide path to this elevated point.
