Curious, are twined placemats too thick?
@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 2 дня назад
Hello! Absolutely not! I have in my home at least 20 placemats that I not only use at my dinner table, but I also sprinkle them around my home on buffets, side tables & vanities! Because twine weaving produces a tighter stitch (as opposed to crocheted placemats) they work wonderfully for our placemats preventing stemware toppling! Crocheted placemats I normally recommend a "P" hook as opposed to a "Q" hook to achieve a denser, tighter stitch. Often I will lay (2) twine woven placemats end-to-end to achieve the exact same size as our TableRunner frames! You can't tell that they are two separate rugs! For fun, I will set my table with 6 different placemats & another 2 similar placemats end-to-end for the centerpiece! Thanks for asking! Hope this helps!

What is the reason for switching top and bottom, and not just twining the whole way down? Thanks!
@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 2 дня назад
Hello! Great question! Primarily it is to control tension - a very important part of twine weaving! By flipping your frame you ease the tension that would build if you were to continue weaving to the opposite end. Secondarily, by allowing the final rows in the middle of your rug, it is much easier to finish off your rug there than at an end adjacent to the boards & nails. Very hard to work your fabric on an end as opposed to near the middle. And last, by doing so helps with a pattern you might be following. Establishing your pattern on one end, repeating on the opposite end & then continuing through the body of your rug. If you were to run short of fabric, you can modify the pattern accordingly. I normally recommend 1/3 & flip your work, 1/3 flip your work, 1/3 complete your work, for your rug & placemat projects. Hope this helps!! Thanks for reaching our & asking!!

Hi, do you go under both pieces of the warp each time? Thanks for sharing this very good tutorial.
@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 2 дня назад
Thank you very much! Appreciated! I'm not totally sure I understand your question "under both pieces of the warp", so bear with me okay? As you are moving right to left on your project, "Right over Left & under the (1) warp" & continue across the row. Once you reach the other side & are moving left to right, "Left over Right & under the (1) warp". Here's another video I'm hoping will be helpful to you!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DwcawlkWeO0.html

Hi, I need to make 2 rectangular rugs, each 30x48”. I have made round and oval rugs, but not any rectangular yet. Are usually make them from sheets from the thrift store. But I’m having trouble figuring out how many yards i will need for just one color. I usually have multicolored or maybe three or four colors. So for example, if I use a full flat sheet which is 81“ x 91“ and 2 inch strips, how do I figure out the yardage? I have watched almost all of your videos in the past.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out & for watching our videos!! First of all, ANYtime you would like rug fabric (or cord/jute) calculations, simply go to our website. Along the left margin of every page - if on your PC, or in the drop down menu on your phone, you'll find a rug calculator. We provide this service at no charge - giving you rug requirements in Yardage, Weight & by our Fabric Rolls/Bundles! To create (2) rectangular rugs 30x48" plan on PER EACH: Just shy of 23 yards of fabric (46 yards total) You can also WEIGH your fabrics! Plan on: 5 3/4 pounds of fabric (11 1/2 pounds total) Or if other projects the same size! 8 of our fabric rolls/bundles - each is 6 yards of fabric (16 total) 1 roll jute (2 rolls total) 4 3/4 rolls Bonnie Craft Cord (9 1/2 rolls total) Slightly more than 2 rolls Cora Craft Cord (2 rolls total) For the sheets, no need to measure them off, simply weigh them on your bathroom scale! If you have 11 1/2 pounds of bed sheets, you should have enough for (2) 30 x 48 rectangular rugs!

Hi Lora, could I keep going to make a larger rug?
@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 15 дней назад
Hello! You absolutely can! Keep in mind that those beginning foundational chains will dictate the overall size of your rug. Before starting any project (Crocheted or Toothbrush) #1 Determine the overall size of your desired rug project, #2 Subtract the finished width dimension from the finished length. That number is the # of foundational chains, #3 complete the first 12 rounds using the "Cheat Sheet", #4 Convert to "Crocheting on Demand" for the remainder of your rug! Here's a link to a video explaining this VERY easy technique - "Making Larger Rugs .. What to do after the 12th round"!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z4TqNyWJzVM.html

@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 27 дней назад
Hello! That's a good question! The "red" numbers on my cheat sheet always denote the "stitch most on center on end". The # indicates increases. So on round 10, the red 2 - yes, add a stitch there! Thanks for asking!

Can I use denim for this rug?
@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 2 месяца назад
Hello! You absolutely can! If you are considering denim bolt fabrics, they normally come in 3 different weights: lightweight, medium & heavy. I prefer using the lightweight or medium. They will also normally come in light, medium & dark on the bolt!! And of course, recyling jeans is another option. It takes a LOT of jeans though!! I once made a multiple colored denim rug for a customer. He wanted it for his "man cave". I created small 12x12" square sections and then used leather cord (like shoe laces) to connect the squares. Looked like a really cool masculine patchwork rug in the end. And very durable!! He loved it!!

@RagstoRugsbyLora
@RagstoRugsbyLora 2 месяца назад
Good Morning! What size of rug are you interested in making? Once you decide the size, you simply subtract the finished width dimension from the finished length dimension. That # is the number of foundational chains you will begin with. Yes! You can use this pattern for both fabric (we use a 2" wide strip) & 6 mm jute. If you are using the same "Q" sized hook we used & yield an approximate 1" gauge, your width divided by 2 is the number of rounds to complete your rug! Here's a video you might enjoy watching! Hello!! Happy you've reached out! I love teaching this rug pattern - with Bonnie Craft Cord, Jute & with Fabric because it's a great way to practice the single crochet stitch! The most important advise is to always remind yourself to add a chain before turning your work & crocheting in each of your stitches the opposite direction. Beyond that, YES!, it's a single crochet stitch throughout the entire rug! A wonderful introduction to crochet & an opportunity to practice your stitches! Please watch the video again! Hoping you'll try it a 3rd time!! Stay in touch okay!?

Hello Kaylee! Thank you for reaching out! The cool thing about rug-making is that we are artists & "painting with fabric"! I like to think that anyway?! I design as I go; there isn't a pattern. So it's difficult for me to share how to "do a pattern". I change colors when the overall beauty of my rug "asks" me to. Does that make sense? I hope so because your question is important to me!!

Hello, Shirley! So happy you've reached out! Single stitches on the outer row isn't a necessary but I prefer that nice clean finished look. Just a preference of mine I guess. I normally do the same if adding a scalloped border, too. One row of single stitches & then add my scallop. The scallop adds 5" to your rug overall. On your example, I WOULD crochet single stitches around on either round 11 or 12 & then add my scallop. As to your question for rounds 12, 13 & 14. Personally, I would increase on rounds 12 & 13 as needed and finish your rug off with one row of single stitches only with no increases on round 14. You made perfect sense! I hope my answer does too! Many thanks to YOU! Lora

Made my first rag rug ever today following this video. Made some sheet yarn for the first time as well. Length turned out perfectly 34” but width was 17”. I am pretty sure that my first several rows were too tight. Also my sheet yarn was cut horribly uneven. Since the rug was literally free unless you count the few dollars I spent on the Q hook I’m choosing to love it despite its imperfections. It’s my first, it’s cute, and I love it. Edit to add I put my rug as my profile pic since I was unable to post it here.

Thank you for this. I've never crocheted before, but it looks like I will be doing it tomorrow. This looks pretty easy to follow along with after i get back from buying my supplies. Thank you.

@RagstoRugsbyLora oh thank you! I didn't know you have supplies too. I'm gonna check that out as well. I'm excited to get started. Is this similar to how they crochet the sleeping pads with the plastic bags for homeless? I saw a post on a local group where there wanting used grocery bags to make sleeping mats and I'd love to learn how to do those as well.

Well thank you!! Appreciated! Here's a link to a video you might enjoy! In it, I'm using "Bonnie Craft Cord" but you can use fabric if you choose. And simply adjust the width for your table runner! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KAMt10NQgyc.html
