This is such a dumb airframe. This can't land the places we need the Blackhawk. If we need faster, then you have the Chinook. It is just bad at the things we need a helicopter to be.
@n3v3rforgott3n9
@n3v3rforgott3n9 4 дня назад
The Chinook is much slower and has half the range still... It has a 19% larger footprint than the Black Hawk and can land in nearly any LZ a Black Hawk can.
@meatbyproducts
@meatbyproducts 4 дня назад
@n3v3rforgott3n9 as someone that had to find landing zones for helicopters in hot zones... that 19% is massive. It is more than 15 feet wider. It is half as long as a Chinook but nearly twice as wide. It is faster, but at a cost of being near worthless at all the missions we use helicopters for. This is the dumbest compromise the Army has made. It rivals the new retarded JLTV. We have a short bus full of idtions buying army equipment. The V280, the M10 booker, the JLTV.
@n3v3rforgott3n9
@n3v3rforgott3n9 4 дня назад
@@meatbyproducts It fits in any LZ that isn't up to all 4 sides of the Black Hawk... which would already make for a shit LZ. This is like people in the past claiming the Black Hawk can't replace the Huey because it is bigger... Frankly you are sounding like an old fart that would see us get left behind.
@meatbyproducts
@meatbyproducts 4 дня назад
@n3v3rforgott3n9 yeah the Huey and black hawk have like a 5 foot difference. This is 15+ feet wider. It is a bonkers size difference. I am looking at the mission of the Army and well the three vehicles I listed are crap at what they do. The M10 Booker is kind of okay, if we use it right. It is just replacing the Stryker that had the same gun on it. The JLTV is over complicated and bad at everything. Need to take gear? Better load the trailer. Need to roll on base? Well we can't use that. It is a baby MRAP and worse at what MRAPs do, and it is to big to do what a Hummer does. The V280 is fast, and takes up vastly more room. It can't do missions in cities like the blackhawks did in Somalia, it has to pick larger areas. I literally planned mission for helicopters and that 15 feet of extra width would force putting Soldiers a mile away and put lives in danger. But yeah I am the fud. You are a CoD warrior that thinks they know what the military actually does.
@n3v3rforgott3n9
@n3v3rforgott3n9 3 дня назад
@@meatbyproducts Huey has an 18% larger footprint... Turn the V280 Valor 90 degrees and it fits in 3 sides of any box you make around the H60. In other words, the LZ has to be touching the blades of the H60 on all 4 sides for a Valor to not fit. This is while carrying 23% more troops. So where 14 H60s might fit only 12 V280 will, but those 12 would be carrying more people and could do 2 missions in the time the H60s did one. That Stryker was trash and tore itself apart by just firing... no shit they needed a dedicated vehicle for it. Not to mention tracks enable it to get in far more areas a Stryker couldn't. MRAPs were a pieced together and a temporary band aid on a larger problem. No shit they aren't going to want to use humvees that could barely run with the upgraded armor package and would still kill everyone inside if they hit a mine. You mean the Army wants a more capable off-road platform and not a cargo platform to lug gear... We are already seeing lighter assault vehicles being extremely useful in an Eastern Europe environment. The 2 vehicles you pointed out are extremely useful at their specific roles... You are "vastly" overstating its size. Also, you mean it wouldn't do the missions the Army learned to never do in helicopters again... also, why not? Those Black Hawk weren't landing in the middle of that city, and even then, again the Valor can fit in 3 sides of any box you can make around the Black Hawk. Yes... you would turn the helicopter 90 degree and it would fit in those LZs... again these open up tons of other options as otherwise nothing else could reach areas it can. You can do twice as many Medevacs, you are in and out in less time during hot drops, you can come in from a completely different way, your QRF is there in half the time. Not to mention in a time of our enemies having more and more short and medium range missiles and drones having your heli bases further away and at less risk is a big deal. Not to mention, you don't need to have your tankers as close to the front line as extreme range air-to-air missiles are becoming more and more common.

I honestly think you could restart production with not many changes and have a low cost attack plane (ersatz fighter too) for any country still using small carriers. Obviously a turbofan would replace the turbojet (F-414 comes to mind, although it'd take a Israeli-style tailpipe extension to fit the afterburner; if stripped it would reduce maximum thrust to about 6 tonnes, not ideal). Apart from that, if mission creep could be avoided, modern avionics would probably not require the hump, though it would unavoidably still make an appearance as a CFT. Modern materials could be used to shed some weight and maybe reduce RCS (though again, beware the mission creep). It's about thinking cheap; same airframe, the fewer bells and whistles, the better. A couple of more pylons (7 at the minimum), maybe wingtip rails for AIM-9s, a small AESA radar good enough for ground scanning and guiding AIM-120s but not meant to against dedicated heavy fighters. Sort of like a downrated legacy F-18 with modern components to complement the likes of F-35B on carriers too small to handle anything bigger and non-STOVL. (Obviously not for USN.) It would still require external fuel tanks and probably (buddy) refueling for any mission, but that couldn't be avoided without a significant redesign, thus defeating the purpose.

Nice catalogue read, but can you be honest / serious about this??? Either the claims are at least 50% exaggerated like with almost any weapon the Putin regime has used in the Ukraine War, and actual combat footage will show this "superplane" is a papertiger and vastly oversold with the promised capabilities... or the Russian aerospace industry has for decades into the future zero chance to ever make more than 5 a year and thus this is worthless as major military investment.
