Cajun is a very straightforward language: « dirty rice » is rice that is left on the floor and therefore dirty; « j’ai mal aux bourses » means I’m in pain because I lost my wallet; « va egorger le cochon » means get the harmonica! It’s time to dance. Etc. Very lovely patois
Cajun is a language that evolved from the African American dialect Wolof - it is primarily spoken by European African Americans who moved to America after they were captured. Other Wolof words are “jambalaya “, “le genou du cyprès” ( which means “flying white bird in Wolof) and “dirty rice” ( because it was served on the ground)
