Hi I'm Steph and I love old cars! If you like classic cars and cars from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond, the idriveaclassic channel is just what you're looking for. If you'd like me to review your car or collab, please email me: idriveaclassic@gmail.com
Well, the Sana/Florida wasn't real competitior to the Favorit because of production volumes at Zastava factory. They still couldn't get rid of "golden Goose" Yugo 45/55 by late 80's. That's why one can say Skoda mostly completed with Lada and Dacia. Compared to the Samara 5-door the Favorit had better build quatily (especiallly speaking of plastics), but it wasn't so much fun to drive. Dacia 1302 ... well, no real comparison here, but Romanian car was cheaper.
It's a brilliant car. It is much more spacious than you would think. Unfortunately, these kinds of cars are no longer made. Now you have to go to an authorized workshop to have a bulb or wiper changed.
I had a later model 1.8, an utterly dependable and reliable workhorse. The smoked rear lights really improved the looks in my view. It got written off after someone ran into it overnight when parked, otherwise we'd have run that car for many more years had that not happened. Ridiculously cheap to run.
‘Dirty’ - let’s not get into this boring EV vs trad fuel debate. Also it’s hardly thirsty - did you listen to the MPG? It’s comparable to a BMW mini countryman. Safety, no, it’s not comparable to a modern car but what tech made in the 80s is comparable to 2020s?!
Looks like "Tex" wing mirrors have been fitted. Desmo, "Boomerang" were the other popular make as well as Raydiot, clip to the window channel ones. The ADO 16 was a fantastic car, but, as a popular TV Presenter would say, "They would rot for England", but the same could be said for any contemporary car, with many mud traps and no factory rustproofing. Good to see your videos, very thorough reviews.
The factory moon roof option is extremely rare. Next to GB, the US market was the next biggest market for sales and i have only seen in person maybe 3 that have the moon roof. It's extremely rare. I'm not sure why because back in that time, it was so elegant to have a moon roof that you would think that a $245,000 car would have it as standard. But I'm guessing that people that have that much money don't want wind noise or that same air blowing throughout the cabin. Only my assumption, but nice to see it previewed in this vehicle.
Well done to Connor and Dan! They are doing a great job with an interesting car. The Favorit was designed when Czechoslovakia was still Communist-ruled and the designers came up with a great car against the odds. Best of luck to you chaps!
The Skoda Favorit will be fine and get there and back no problem. My eldest niece runs a care home housing a number of people with dementia. When you realise what some of these people did for a living it brings it home that dementia is no respecter of persons. I wish them the very best of luck. Thanks Steph for sharing this with us. 👍👍
It’s not Deux Chevals because the French word for horses is Chevaux. Don’t confuse that with Cheveux because that’s hair. My parents bought a LHD 1954 2CV4 in the 1970s and my sister owned a 2CV6 in the early 1980s. I drove both of those but didn’t have my own until the 1990s when I had a 1986 red and white Dolly for several years. Great cars that are still a fairly common sight where I live.
You mentioned in the video that there is no way to quiet down the motor noise in the interior, in a matter of fact there is: put an isolation, a material of cotton fiber or something glued on the firewall that has a chrome tin foil finish just like as the 90's Fiat Puntos, modern Dacia Sanderos have, Lol for example to help silence the motor noise in the interior
The van in Only fools and horses was also used in Mr Bean too. But painted blue and then painted yellow for the Only Fools and Horses Christmas special.
I used to own a 1996 Skoda Felicia best car i ever owned , It was my first car only cost me £395 in 2007 and for a 1.3 litre it was very nippy and would do 100mph , the engine never went wrong and lasted me 3 years before i sold it to get a 2003 Vaxhall Corsa which sadly was a nightmare no where near as reliable as Skodas were.
The Favorit will make that journey very easily, they were/are a cracking little car and very reliable too. A great charity choice, very personal to me so a donation made before I'd even finished the video. I wish Connor and Dan all the luck in the world on their epic trip.
@@idriveaclassic Bless you Steph, at 74 she's had it 15 years now, so its well advanced but, she's still here and got a big loving family around her and she still knows who we are mostly. With that evil, you've got to grab any small positives and be grateful for them. x
@@graemew7001 My mother had vascular dementia which took over 25 years to kill her. I and my father (who was principal carer for all that time) had a lot of help from the Alzheimer's Society, without which we would both have crumbled. You have my full support and I'm only sorry I can't give more. I hope you have a great journey - video it if you can - and make lots of money for the charity.
Thanks very much for a really uplifting video - the car itself, the enthusiasm, the planned trek across Europe and the charity cause. Greatly looking forward to your review drive of the car too! 😀
Not to be rude, but it is by insurer definition. Some folk might just see it as ‘old car’ but it does fit the definition which is defined by age not personal preference of the beholder.
I appreciate not everyone defines classic in the same way, but to someone like myself who is significantly younger than it… The market for these 90s cars is growing, as young people can’t afford “conventional” classics such as minis/minors/midgets but want to get in on the scene, which is fantastic
Vehicles are meant to be driven because the designers never envisioned them becoming Classics. They envisioned them to be daily driven. There is no reason a classic vehicle can't be driven on an extended road trip especially if it has been well-maintained and has had a thorough pre-trip inspection. Pack a few extra parts and some tools and drive off. I have driven my classic cars on 1,000-mile road trips on the spur of the moment and the worst problem I encountered was a broken fan belt and the dead battery.
What does her dress have anything to do with the subject matter ?. I know you would never say what a nice pair of shorts that youug male is wearing !...
Skoda cars have improved enormously. Back in the days of Soviet Era Skodas there was a joke - Why do Skodas have heated rear windows? To keep your hands warm as you push start them! Hopefully this one is more reliable!😅
Roger, please tell me I look fantastic in my shorts. If you’re at least going to say dubious things about Steph’s dress, I’d like you to tell me how gorgeous I look in my shorts, and tell me how my car only looks good with my voluptuous behind in it.
Totally over dramatic.....The Favorit was not an unreliable car in any way. He will go all the way there and return with out any serious mechanical issue. I'm looking forward to the follow up video.
Last time I did a favorit the unfavourable comments were in abundance. Some so vile RU-vid flagged them! Wouldn’t be so sure on that ‘over dramatic’. I don’t believe it myself but Jesus, the commenters thought it.
@@idriveaclassic Thats odd,,,, I just looked at the commnets from your Black Favorit video . There is not one negative comment ? Have you deleted them all ?
@@charlieoscar09 a lot got removed by RU-vid and some of the others criticising the car/owner I removed. A lot seemed to mention the owner and I don’t allow that. There were still a few last time I checked but it’s been years and my filter on comments is mega high.
The concerns about reliability are real in the sense that… any car that cheap is going to have issues! It’s had to have some seals done since we filmed this video… it’s not stopped the car moving but with anything sat for that long it’s going to have its niggles. I’m largely confident, and as I’ve said in the video, the “old skoda” reputation is unfair. It’s hopefully going to be fantastically reliable, but Dan and I are very real that things do often go wrong on these sorts of trips.
Back in the 90's and 00's, my white 1992 Favorit 1.3GLXi Estate did dozens of trips to Germany, France and Spain for work. Never a single breakdown, and some very long runs - Gibraltar to Hastings in 2 days, for example. Years of fault free driving from a very comfortable, reliable and pleasant little car. As for the people who laughed at the marque - it was the owners that had the last laugh, for sure!
Interesting video understand your point about keeping things going in the classic car following. But I think the hardest thing for the young generation is the cost of them I don't think the spare money will be available for them to own one to be honest. Plus the older the cars get the more issues there are that need sorting, and the skills shortage will not help.
500th like 🥳🥳🥳 Do I win a prize? 😂 Great video, but I don't have much faith in the government. they won't want young people driving around in cars with ICE 😭 I hope I'm wrong 🙏
Im 30 now (not really young) but ive driven classic cars since I was 25, two triumph spitfires a 72 and 73 and currently a 62 sunbeam rapier. My brothers who's 28 has had a long list of classics, 67 mini coopers s, 86 mini city, two MGB GTs a 72 and 73, a 75 rover p6 v8 (that was a nice car), 3 triumph spitfires a 72 that I bought off him, a 62 mk2 (that car was stunning) and a 80 which was the second to last ever made. He currently has a 66 Austin sprite and hes selling a 76 chevy corvette. My dad made us petrol heads, much to the annoyance of mum lol, hes always had lovely classic English and Japanese bikes and currently has a 75 Alfa Romeo spider and a 67 triumph Bonneville. Its defiantly something id recommend if you can deal with the nightmares they bring.
May I say that your car reviews are top class On the strength of this one I travelled to Scotland to buy a 1959 P100 and drove a fairly uneventful 336 miles home the only incident being when I got home and tried to select reverse I panicked as I was foul of the road. Because of the turning circle I was on attempt two. I found half of the pin put it in and managed to find first did a full turn and drove in forwards Replacement imperial clevis pin ordered for the linkage Thank you so much for your channel
