From candles to incandescent bulbs to early LEDs and everything in between, people have adjusted their lives to the limitations of available lighting technology. Well, we’re happy to say that time is over. Welcome to the new light age. Where light adapts to people’s needs-not the other way around. Where we’re not simply brightening a room-we’re enhancing everyday life with innovative yet practical solutions. Where light meets life.
Cascading fascinating reality and aspiration and fear and schnectody… and the south side of Chicago and blue… and miracles and alcohol. Noids and noise… light and holes and Plato… breathe ya’ll…
It doesn’t turn off even when not in flashlight mode you turn the light off and it stays on Edit: so in the bathroom it works normally but in the ceiling fan in my bedroom it just stays on. So if you’re putting it in a ceiling fan it might not work. Does not work with smart switches either. The light will come on after a few min.

Holy hell. What a rabbit hole this lightbulb took me down. Swallowed into the caverns of the internet, confronting the intersections of technology, privacy, and the price we pay in our independence for the “freedom” of convenience. It all began for me after I bought the lightbulb on a whim while grocery shopping for cheese. Ooh, pretty colors, I said to myself. Without a second thought, it was in the cart. I took it home, excited for the setup, the customizable colors promised, but no matter how many times I tried connecting my device (the lightbulb), the Cync app “couldn’t find it” through my wifi or Bluetooth. This is strange, I thought. But ok, no big deal, right? I have other options. But what was the other option? And at what cost? I downloaded the Google Home app, thinking it would more or less work the same as I had expected the Cync app to. A kind of platform to act as a conduit to control the bulb with my wifi/Bluetooth. Makes sense right? But here, fellow colorful lightbulb enthusiasts, is where things get… fucky. You see, the equivocal wording on the box and in this video cleverly leads you to believe that you do not need to submit to Google. After all, you do not need a “hub” to set the lightbulb up. You DO, however, need either A.) Google Nest or Google Home speaker or B.) Google display or a Nest Wifi point. How did I discover this? Well, on the box in small print are the words “seamless setup with Google home app.” Seamless set up..with Google home app. This was what originally made me think I could just hop onto the Google home app despite not having any smart home products. But this is wordplay. The box makes you think you can download the Google Home app as an option instead of just connecting the lightbulb over your own wifi or Bluetooth and the process will still be seamless. WRONG. “Seamless Setup” is not a descriptor for the process. Rather, it is a brand name. It is Google’s brand for their specific installation process that you are required to use which can only be accessed through the Google Home app, which can only be accessed through (yes, you’re following me) one of google’s nest products. But trying to shill an additional product over a lightbulb wasn’t the worst of it. The Google home app wants the location of your home. Nothing new here, Google is ALWAYS asking “where do you fucking from.” But the Google home app for the LIGHTBULB also wants to know your schedule. Yes, it wants to establish a framework of your daily routine. Now why the hell do they need this to make a lightbulb some pretty colors? The line of thinking from there can only get more sinister. We are familiar with Google smart house products. They’re selling security cameras around your house, locking and unlocking your doors, they want to know where you live ,and your daily schedule. Now all of this is to “better customize your experience.” I’ll bet that my experience certainly could be VERY customized from this. But at what cost? How important is it to you to have the lights already on when you come home as opposed to just flipping the switch when you walk in? Does Google REALLY need to know everything about me? It’s bad enough the phones are already listening in. Now, I’m a millennial so I remember the made for TV movie “smart house” on the Disney channel. A sentient AI within the framework of a smart home locks the resident family inside for their own protection (I can’t remember why and maybe the COVID pandemic memories are affecting my recollection because I believe a character had a cold, and the House wanted him protected from the elements). We are already moving in the direction of powerful AI. But more than that, I am not so concerned with sentient maternalistic AI as I am for opportunistic large corporations entreating us to trade away all our freedoms, under the guise of “customer service.” Who do the corps REALLY serve? At the end of the day, though my Full Color Direct Connect Smart Bulb did not go off, many other figurative “lightbulbs” went off for me. Maybe I will be ready to sacrifice my freedoms to the Google nest and hive mind down the road. But at this time, I’m trading the smart bulb for my purple tinted regular ass “dumb” bulb from Home Depot. No setup required beyond screwing it in and turning it on. The bulb might not be smart. But at least that means it’s not going to outsmart me.
Question! I plugged in all light bulbs and turned on. Added them all. Created a routine for sunset and sunrise feature. When will this actually go into effect because the lights just stay on, will this go into effect in the morning and turn off then back on again later?
Hi there! When you first choose this option, the Cync app will prompt you to input your zip code to give you the most accurate Sunrise and Sunset times. You can choose for the schedule to happen at exactly Sunrise/Sunset, or you can choose for the schedule to occur at a specific the time of day. Here's a resource that offers more information, plus tips, on setting up Routines, or Scenes and Schedules, as well as setting up the Sunrise/Sunset feature that may be helpful: cyncsupport.gelighting.com/s/article/scenes-and-schedules If you continue to have trouble setting up this feature, please connect with our Cync Support technicians directly at 1-844-302-2943. They can help get you up and running!
There is no way in Hell is that easy to link the cable that easily. My thumbs are bruised up. Each panels are so tight that it’s taking me 30 mins each panel.
PRO TIP - With your finger tips go in the input slot needed on the back and spread out the clip spots so when you put on the link cable it is MUCH easier
Wow, what a waste of time. Show the bulb. I want to know how much of the surface is dead space. It's important becuse lumens is flux density and not flux.
Hi there. The Cync App supports iOS 14+ and Android 8+. You can find Cync App release notes for iOS here, if interested: cyncsupport.gelighting.com/s/article/cync-app-release-notes-for-ios?language=en_US
Are these linkable? If you're going to replace a previous generation GE undercabinet light where the wiring is all set up to link multiple lights to one set of switches, that might be kinda important.
Yes! These are linkable. You can also direct wire them or plug them into an outlet. You can control all of them together if they are grouped within the Cync App, even if they are not directly linked together as well.
Thank you for the follow up. Happy to help clarify. We launched Cync Direct Connect Full Color A19 bulbs and Cync Indoor Plugs that are Matter compatible. These Matter compatible SKUs are currently available on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLWQZZZM www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP4CNJY4 This year, we are planning to launch more Matter certified versions of our products. These undercabinet lights will become available later this year as well.
If you love cync so much I have about 50 recessed lights and a ton of regular bulbs. I'd love to sell them to be able to get what I want. GE is too unstable and works with No one.
Hi there. We're sorry that you've had trouble with our recessed lights and bulbs. We'd like to learn more about your setup and the experiences you've had with our lighting products. When you have a few spare minutes, please connect with our Cync Support team at 1-844-302-2943 so we can best assist.
Do you have anything in depth to show what all the custom options are and how to use them effectively? I’m not interested in the hundreds of 30 second marketing promos and I’m looking for something with actual information in it
Hi there. Yes! We have several Cync resources available online, including step-by-step guides on how to use certain features and visual aids to show you what all of the options look like in the Cync App. Here's a resource that you may find helpful regarding light shows and music sync: cyncsupport.gelighting.com/s/article/light-shows-and-music-sync?language=en_US
Hi there. For Custom Light Shows, you can adjust Color Duration, which controls the length of time that one color will be displayed before changing to the next. There are a few other settings that you may find helpful, too, including Color Smoothing, which provides smoother transition between colors. You can learn more about all of the different settings and how to access them, here: cyncsupport.gelighting.com/s/article/light-shows-and-music-sync?language=en_US
